Back in 2012, Lincoln claimed its comeback bid was finally underway with the new-for-2013 MKZ. But don't you believe them - the renaissance won't actually begin in earnest until the shapely compact crossover seen here reaches showrooms in big numbers. That's because while the four-door MKZ was indeed a proper step toward rebirth, the 2015 MKC is the first wholly conceived vehicle under Lincoln as a standalone brand, a move first announced back in 2012.
That's an important distinction, because Lincoln's newfound emancipation from Ford's design and development processes has given the struggling marque both the corporate wherewithal and the will to develop a more fully formed product. The four-wheeled result seen here is a surprisingly cohesive luxury CUV, one with significantly more aesthetic and dynamic separation from its Ford Escape sibling than the MKZ and its Fusion counterpart. Said another way, after flogging Lincoln's latest for hundreds of miles over canyon roads outside of Santa Barbara, we've come to understand that this is far from a re-grilled Dearborn special with luxury tinsel - it's a bona fide standalone product that readily displays the sort of clear differentiation seen in platform cousins like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It's the real deal.

The Lincoln Way seeks to woo customers with unique services

Lincoln has been fighting hard to shed their image as a luxury brand for the elderly. The company has recently introduced or updated nearly every vehicle in its fleet in order to literally put a new face on the brand. Options, like the Black Label program, attempt to pull influence from high-end automakers that provide services extending beyond scheduled oil changes. Now, Lincoln is introducing a program that it refers to as The Lincoln Way, a suite of customer-oriented services that the company hopes will set it apart from the pack. All of this starts this fall when the new Continental goes on sale. Customers will have access to services like vehicle pickup and drop off and complimentary loaner vehicles. The company is planning more incentives for the future, but details are vague. Lincoln parent Ford is offering similar services on the upcoming GT. The Lincoln Way seems to be an expansion of some services already offered under the Black Label program. Right now, Black Label includes scheduled maintenance, car washes, and concierge services, as well as exclusive vehicle colors and options. The program is pricey and only available on some models in some states, though Lincoln plans on expanding Black Label's reach. In addition to these services, Lincoln is opening a showroom of sorts, called the Lincoln Experience Center, in Newport Beach, California. The facility won't actually sell vehicles. Instead, customers can come and learn about the brand, build and price vehicles, and take test drives. The Experience Center will then put customers in contact with local dealers. Lincoln says the increased focus on customer care and satisfaction draws influence from the company's growth in China. Since the introduction of The Lincoln Way services, sales in China have grown greatly. Sales in the United States, like China, have been improving the past few years. 2018 Ford Expedition spied looking stylish

The Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator got a cool reception for their 2015 warmed-over redesign. But with big, high-riding vehicles once again in vogue, Ford is pushing ahead with a ground-up redesign of its biggest SUVs. Based on these spy shots, the Expedition will continue to serve as the Navigator's more affordable twin. Yes, that's a bold prediction, considering we still haven't spotted Lincoln testing the new Navigator, but study the greenhouses on this Expedition prototype and the Navigator Concept from New York – from the arrow-straight belt line to the extra-long rear window to the aggressively raked windshield, this Expedition's overall profile is broadly similar to what Lincoln previewed earlier this year. While our spies claim the new Expedition will look to the F-150 for design inspiration, we see a departure from past Expedition tradition. Unlike the supposed Expedition spy shots we showed you nearly a year ago – which was nothing more than an SUV with an F-150's nose grafted on, this prototype's front-end styling looks softer and more aerodynamic, with a smaller grille and headlights, almost like an Escape or Edge. This kind of change would explain the additional front-end camouflage. In back, our spies rightly point out that Ford fitted a faux rear end to disguise the rear window's rake – expect the real thing to feature the angled rear window previewed on the Navigator Concept. Look at the last image in the gallery for a better idea of how the Expedition's rear window will actually look. We can't say a lot about the taillights, because of the camo, but non-LED taillights are present. We'd expect Ford to offer LEDs on higher trim levels. While the F-150's styling might not make the transition to the Expedition, its powertrains and emphasis on lightweight aluminum will. Our spies report the biggest SUV will ride on a new T3 platform and feature an aluminum body, with the F-150's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Expect a ten-speed automatic transmission and start/stop tech for sure, while the smaller 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 could slot in as the Expedition's base engine – we're less sure on that one. And we're even more uncertain of the rumors of an Expedition Hybrid. Our spies report it could mate a 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor(s) and battery packs for a more economical full-size SUV. Expect to see the 2018 Expedition debut in January, at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
