Up for sale is my Cartier Designer Series 1981, 81 Continental MK VI, Mark VI 2 Door Coupe. The Cartier color scheme for this year was Medium Pewter Metallic Paint, Medium Pewter Leather seats and Steering Wheel and Medium Pewter Vinyl Roof with Maroon Wrapover molding and a single Dark Red Painted Accent Stripe. This car is LOADED with Factory Optional Features: Lighted Entry with Exterior Driver Door Mounted, 'Keyless Entry" keypad and Illuminated Door Lock Key Cylinders, Power Windows with Minivent feature, Power Factory Moonroof, Power Automatic Locking Door Locks, Twin Comfort Lounge 8 way Power Front Reclining Seats, Twilight Sentinal  Automatic Hidden Headlights with Auto High Beam Dimmer, Large Single Round Coach Parking Lamps built into each Headlamp Door Cover, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Power Trunk Release, Power Antenna, Digital AM FM CASSETTE Radio with Premium Sound Feature, Automatic Climate Control, Digital Dash, Electronic Trip Computer, Electronic Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror, Cable Remote Right and Left Side View Mirrors, Right and Left Door Armrest Storage Compartments, Lacey Aluminium Spooked Wheels.
I bought this car in April 2001, at the Carlilse Pennsylvania Car Show with only 73000 miles on it. To the best of my knowledge, this is an all original un-restored, untouched survivor. The interior is beautiful with the exception of the top of the back seat (See Photo). The Dash Pad and Speaker Grills are in great shape as are the original Cartier Floor Mats (See Photo). Everything seems to be in working order. The body is straight and untouched with only a minor ding seen here and there. There are no major dents, scratches, chips, gouges, or rust to speak of. However as you can see in the pictures the clear coat paint finish is starting to go which is typical of cars from this era, but it is NOT flaking or peeling. The chrome is showing signs of wear as well.
The engine compartment is in great shape along with the trunk interior showing its original un-used mini spare and bumper jack.
I did not use this car too much at all. The odometer is showing only 79400 miles now. In the 6000 miles I have driven it over the past 13 years it has always been garage kept. I have never driven it in the snow or salty road conditions and it has seen very little rain. I believe it's been off the road since 2003 or 2004. I would go and start it on a regular basis and take it out for an occasional ride every few months weather permitting.
I recently replaced the battery after the winter and she started right up, drove her out of the garage, gave her a bath and went for a ride. The brakes felt a little low and spongy which may require a good bleeding. I would recommend changing all fluids and filters  as routine servicing maintenance by the new owner for piece of mind.
This 1981 Continental Mark VI  2door Cartier Designer Series by Lincoln and the Ford Motor Company, VIN : 1MRBP95F1BY640726   is being sold in "AS IS" condition with no warranties guarantees or returns promised or implied.

J Mays retiring from Ford design, succeeded by Moray Callum

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Ford's highly influential head of design, J Mays, has announced that he'll be retiring from his position after 33 years in the industry, 16 of which were at the Dearborn, MI-based company. Upon departure, he'll be succeeded as group vice president of design by Moray Callum. If that last name sounds familiar, yes, he's the brother of Jaguar's Ian Callum.
It's difficult to explain just how big of a role Mays had on not just Ford's design over the years, but on the entire industry. Before heading to Dearborn, Mays worked for Audi, BMW and then Volkswagen, where he was involved in concept cars that paved the way for design icons like the first-generation Audi TT and the Volkswagen New Beetle. As for his Ford resume, it's extensive.
Mays joined the company in 1997 as design director for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda, as well as the Premier Automotive Group (Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin). He was heavily involved in the Ford Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, F-150 and Mustang, while also contributing to concept cars like the Atlas, Evos, 427, Forty-Nine, Shelby GR-1, Lincoln MKZ and the MKC.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

Sell your own: 2002 Lincoln LS V8

Ford Motor Company has been a global concern almost as long as there has been a 'Motor Company'. And while it is omnipresent in most corners of the globe, few things spoke to that globalization more than Ford's purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover near the end of the last century. And with that purchase came shared platform opportunities, some of which didn't work (Jaguar's X-Type is the most notable, whose platform was shared with the Ford Mondeo), and some that did. We'll focus on one that did: Jaguar's S-Type, whose engineering was common to the Lincoln LS. Sales didn't set the world on fire for either model, but there is something ageless about both; the Jag embraced a neo-classic theme, while Lincoln's LS is almost timeless within its 3-box, slab-sided architecture. This for-sale example, located in Melbourne, Fla., looks to be in nice condition. If the mileage is accurate and the Carfax reasonably clean, it should provide miles and years of motoring pleasure, even if only driving to your rheumatologist. The LS borders on being a quiet collectible, with less obvious pleasure in the viewing, more obvious delight in the driving; that's especially true with this model's V8.
