2020 Lincoln Corsair will be revealed at the New York Auto Show

It's official, the 2020 Lincoln Corsair will be revealed at the New York Auto Show this April. To go along with the announcement is a teaser video that, well, doesn't reveal much of anything except the crossover's name prominently displayed on the front fender. But we know a fair bit about the crossover from spy shots and prior announcements. The Corsair is the successor to the MKC, Lincoln's smallest crossover, which is also based on the Ford Escape. We expect that it will continue to be based on the Escape, albeit the completely redesigned one that hasn't yet been revealed. That also means powertrains will probably be shared, but the Lincoln might get one or two model-specific powertrains like with the Lincoln Aviator. Reportedly, the new Corsair will feature turbocharged 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter four-cylinder engines along with a plug-in hybrid. Spy shots have revealed that the Corsair will have styling closely related to that of the larger Aviator. That means a floating roof, more broad-shouldered nose, and large amounts of glass. You would think that commercial being ridiculed across the Internet would be an advertising executive's worst nightmare, but that's not necessarily the case. At least not when it comes to Lincoln and its latest campaign to promote the new MKC.
The campaign features Matthew McConaughey channeling his characters from True Detective and The Lincoln Lawyer, and was quickly spoofed by both Conan O'Brien and Ellen DeGeneres. But instead of shaking their heads in dismay at the comedy talk-show hosts' take on their ad, Lincoln and its advertising firm Hudson Rouge welcome the free publicity.
"We're flattered. Just to get out into the public mind with parodies says you've achieved a certain amount of notoriety," Hudson Rouge CCO Jon Pearce told Automotive News. "It's hard to put a dollar amount on earned media. We couldn't ask for better."

Lincoln considering giving cars real names again

Enthusiastic reaction to the Continental concept might be the death knell for Lincoln's alphabet soup of monikers. "Without divulging the future, we're very excited about the Continental name and the attention it's gotten," Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs said to Automotive News. Hinrichs admitted that the current MK names could confuse those not familiar with the models. Hinrichs suggested that one way Lincoln might differentiate itself was to "leverage its heritage." While this is certainly nothing explicit, the talk could be an indication of an upcoming overhaul for the brand's naming scheme. The Continental is set to hit the market next year as a replacement for the MKS as the company makes a major push into China. Lincoln bosses reportedly gave the designers the model name as inspiration for what to create. The brand's health has slowly been improving since former Ford CEO Alan Mulally was ready to completely kill the brand. Last year, a new boss was appointed to the helm, and there were reports of a modular platform under development. Let us know in Comments what Lincoln names you want to see revived.
