Original Rare Color 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car Excellent Condition on 2040-cars
Southport, North Carolina, United States
This is a rare car to locate today. The milage is acurate. Only 71113. This Lincoln was special ordered by my wife's grandmother in 1979 and meticulously garage kept by her until her passing last year. We brought it home and immediately put it under a 7 layered high end car cover where it has been sitting. The car had been sitting for about 2 years until we got it. I had the carb rebuilt by a lincoln mechanic and put back on last weekend and now it runs and drives perfect. The seats had been covered with towels for all of its years to prevent fading and wear. It was never smoked in and the carpet, headliner and fabric are all in excellent condition. All of the factory options are still in place, 8 track digital stereo and factory CB radio. It has a nice white half carriage top and the opera windows. all chrome is complete and in great shape. The paint is in excellent condition. There are only a couple very minor blemishes I took pics of and listed. The only things I know of that need attention are as follows: The fuel gauge is not working properly. I think the float in the tank is stuck from sitting. The windshield is cracked on the lower drivers side (pictured also). Price to replace windshield locally was $250.00. The a/c copmressor is very noisy and is not blowing very cold. It seems to have an exhaust leak. I noticed 1 small place under the trim just above the trunk where the paint seems to be bubbled up like the start of rust. I havent seen any other rust on the car. Other than these things it is excellent for its age. The oil was recently changed and it was recently tuned up. It has always had michelin tires. They are in great shape. It rides like you are floating on a cloud and the seats are like sittiing on your favorite couch. Only a few minor details to repair from sitting and you could have a headturning show car. This is a beautiful classic collectors car that needs a loving home where it can be garaged, shown and proudly driven on a Sunday Afternoon. It is being sold as is where is with no warranty given or implied. Please feel free to ask any questions and Thank you for looking. |

Consumer Reports explains its disdain for infotainment
Thu, 20 Mar 2014One of the perks of reviewing all manner of cars and trucks is that we're exposed to all the different infotainment systems. Whether Cadillac's CUE, Chrysler's UConnect, BMW's iDrive or MyFord Touch, we sample each and every infotainment system on the market.
Not surprisingly, some are better than others. It seems consumers have come to a similar consensus, with Consumer Reports claiming that Ford and Lincoln, Cadillac and Honda offer the worst user infotainment experiences. Not surprisingly, you won't find much argument among the Autoblog staff.
Take a look below to see just what it is about the latest batch of infotainment systems that grinds CR's gears. After that, scroll down into Comments and let us know if you agree with the mag's views.
Lincoln may add suicide doors to future Continental
Mon, Mar 26 2018There's been plenty of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Lincoln Continental, a nameplate revived only 18 months ago but struggling to move units as sedans submit subduction-style to the techtonic boom in crossovers. We recently shared a report that the Continental won't live to see another generation after selling just 18,846 units in its year-and-a-half back on the market. Now comes a report from Automotive News saying that Lincoln at the 2018 NADA convention in Las Vegas showed a photo of the Continental with rear-hinged doors and said it plans to manufacture it. The publication cited several dealers who were in the room but didn't want to be identified. Lincoln, of course, isn't saying anything about rear-hinged suicide doors except to say that "Continental is an important part of the Lincoln family." The announcement at NADA was reportedly meant to convey a commitment to cars by Lincoln, which has been buoyed by crossovers like the MKC and its red-hot Navigator large SUV. There was no word on timing or other details about the suicide door-equipped Continental. Lincoln sold just 1,573 units of the sedan through February, down about 25 percent on the annualized monthly rate. Still, if Lincoln wants to plant its flag in the car segment, then its flagship is probably a good place to start. The Continental nameplate, which was revived in New York in 2015 as a concept, enjoys a long design lineage, of course, and boasted production suicide doors on the 1961 Continental Mk V. The luxury sedan also inspired one artist to reimagine the Continental as a two-door coupe, true to its original 1939 styling and demonstrating the car's versatility. And the car already has some concept-style futuristic touches, including hidden electric door handles and 30-way adjustable front seats. But suicide doors have mostly been relegated these days to concept vehicles, one-offs like this Rolls-Royca Sweptail and the Tesla Semi truck. So should we see this as a way for Lincoln to draw some attention to a struggling nameplate? Related Video:
New 2020 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator recalled for minor safety issues
Wed, Aug 7 2019Ford has announced a small recall on 2020 Explorers and 2020 Lincoln Aviators. Select units might be missing a manual park release cover, while others might have instrument clusters stuck in Factory Mode. The recall affects 14,135 SUVs in total. While a vehicle is in production in a manufacturing facility, Ford might put them in what is known as Factory Mode to help reduce battery drain. Affecting the instrument cluster, this mode disables warning alerts, warning chimes, and does not show the PRNDL gear selector display. Ford says one vehicle was in an accident at a production facility as a result of the issue, but nobody was injured. Separately, Ford found that some of these Explorers and Aviators might be lacking a manual park release cover. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require a manual park release cover that is only removable with a tool. Without the cover, there is a very minor chance the manual park release could be accidentally actuated, which could allow the vehicle to move on its own. The recalls affect 13,896 vehicles in the U.S. and 239 in Canada. The Explorers were built between March 27, 2019, and July 24, 2019. The Aviators were built between April 10, 2019, and July 24, 2019. Owners can use Ford's recall number 19C06, and if affected, can take their vehicles in for fixes.
