Award-winning, beautifully restored Continental sedan. Show quality black paint, show-chromed bumpers, professionally polished stainless trim, new, correct "Pearl Gold Crinkle Leather" with gold piping (trim code 88), recovered door cards, new wood, new carpet and custom made mats and trunk kit from Jim Wallace at Leather Restorations.

Rebuilt engine and transmission, rebuilt steering gear box and pump. Mostly new suspension rubber, shocks, bushings, center link, etc.  While the original AM/FM radio works, the car is pre-wired for a custom stereo of your choosing so its not necessary to tear the car apart to add a great stereo.  Pre-wiring includes power from the battery, speaker wires to four corners of the interior, power and IPod connectivity to the console interior (that's what all the wires are in the trunk pic).
Won "First Place" in its category last year at Lincoln Continental Owners Club Texas State-wide meet last year.
Just returned from this year's Salado event last night.  The car is known to the president of the National LCOC club, and the heads of the Lone Star Region and the Texas Gulf Coast Region.
I encourage anyone interested to come and see/drive the car in person, or hire a professional to inspect it.

A note about style:  If you're interested in a "slab-side" Continental, you may be familiar with the various characteristics of the different models.  However, if you just like the look and have not researched the year-by-year changes, this is for you.  This "Milestone" car was introduced in 1961 to almost universal acclaim with the "Thunderbird" grill.  The car was a radical departure from the baroque designs of the late-50's; lean, athletic, austere in its decoration with minimal use of chrome and artifice.  The original design called for inward sloping "C" pillars and curved side glass (an industry first) to produce more a more radical "tumblehome" (inward slope of the "greenhouse" above the beltline).  In the first three years ('61-'63) it was all about the style...and, if a car this large can be considered "sporty", it looks it from many angles.  Due to customer preferences for a larger back seat, these essential elements were dropped in 1964, when the side glass was straightened, the rear doors lengthened and the top was made bigger and more rectangular...no more Tumblehome.  Everyone has their preferences, but the first three years ('61-'63) only have the elements of style that made this a ground-breaking design.

MyFord Touch getting buttons and knobs back to counter criticisms

Mon, 17 Jun 2013

Ford deserves credit for being a front-runner in offering advanced infotainment technology with its Sync and MyFord Touch systems, but continued consumer complaints over its confusing touchscreen interface and capacitive controls has made the automaker relent. The Wall Street Journal reports that physical buttons and knobs for controlling tuning and volume will be coming back to Ford vehicles equipped with the controversial infotainment system.
The 2013 F-150 with MyFord Touch gives us a glimpse of what the new layout with buttons and knobs might look like, as Ford says a similar balance of touch screen capability and buttons/knobs are what's being planned for future models. And, while capacitive controls have no fans in the halls of Autoblog, many of Ford's models with MyFord Touch do have a large physical knob for adjusting volume with integrated buttons for tuning and advancing tracks, though most of those are models with the optional upgraded Sony Audio system. Lincoln models with MyLincoln Touch, however, feature only capacitive controls for all stereo and climate functions.
Despite receiving enough complaints to throw buttons and knobs back into the mix (a move that reminds us of BMW's iDrive trajectory, among others), Ford reports that Sync and MyFord Touch have still been sold on 79 percent of its 2013 model year vehicles, a number it claims is double the rate that Honda and Toyota are getting for their infotainment systems. Ford also states that owners who do opt for the duo of technologies are more satisfied with overall vehicle quality than those who don't have it.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Why Lincoln says it's loving Ellen and Conan MKC ad spoofs [w/videos]

Mon, 13 Oct 2014

You would think that commercial being ridiculed across the Internet would be an advertising executive's worst nightmare, but that's not necessarily the case. At least not when it comes to Lincoln and its latest campaign to promote the new MKC.
The campaign features Matthew McConaughey channeling his characters from True Detective and The Lincoln Lawyer, and was quickly spoofed by both Conan O'Brien and Ellen DeGeneres. But instead of shaking their heads in dismay at the comedy talk-show hosts' take on their ad, Lincoln and its advertising firm Hudson Rouge welcome the free publicity.
"We're flattered. Just to get out into the public mind with parodies says you've achieved a certain amount of notoriety," Hudson Rouge CCO Jon Pearce told Automotive News. "It's hard to put a dollar amount on earned media. We couldn't ask for better."
