Lincoln Continental Concept has arrived on the New York stand

The return of the Lincoln Continental, albeit in concept form, has not been without controversy. Bentley chief designer Luc Donckerwolke going as far as to call the car a "copy" of its own Flying Spur, offering to send the British sedan's tooling to Detroit. But while debate can rage over any similarities – you can and should head over and vote in our poll on the matter – can we all at least agree to see something interesting happening with Lincoln design? Gone are unattractive styling trademarks like Lincoln's winged grille, while less polarizing elements like the vehicle-spanning taillights have been refined. The three-box design, meanwhile, dismisses the coupe-like stylings of the latest MKZ , opting for a long hood, short deck and a more traditional three-box layout. The advantage of that, of course, is cabin space. The Continental is designed for rear-seat passengers, offering opulent, Venetian leather seats with Alcantara inserts and 30-way adjustability. Just so we're clear, we have a hard time even thinking of 30 different ways to adjust a seat, so well played Lincoln. The headliner is satin, a briefcase sits in each back rest and dedicated tray tables allow for work on the go. It's plush, even in the world of pie-in-the-sky concepts. 2016 Lincoln MKX images and details hit the web

Well, what do we have here? In what we're assuming is an accidental leak, a live URL from Lincoln Canada has been brought to our attention, and it's chock full of information on a new 2016 Lincoln MKX that we figure will most likely see an introduction at the Detroit Auto Show right around the corner. "Inspired by airplane design," says Lincoln, we see a good bit of the smaller MKC in the design of the next MKX, and that's a good thing. We note HID lights with LED accents, a Panoramic Vista Roof, a hands-free power liftgate and a 360-degree camera mounted behind the front Lincoln emblem as tasty exterior details to look forward to. Inside is what appears to be a pretty darn beautiful cabin, with available Bridge of Weir leather seats with optional heating and cooling, plus 22-way adjustability. Open-pore wood in either walnut swirl of olive ash looks classy, and the newly available Revel audio with 13 or optionally 19 speakers ought to work well with the car's active noise control to provide a serene driving experience. We're not entirely sure what infotainment system the 2016 Lincoln MKX will boast, but the images appear to show a version of the much-maligned MyLincoln Touch interface, and not the upcoming Sync 3, although at least there is more physical switchgear for the HVAC, as on the MKC. As far as the vehicle's engine and chassis, we see mention of an available twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost, but there's no power rating just yet – we know it will be more than 300 horsepower, but how much more is still unknown. There's no mention of the 2016 MKX's transmission, which makes us think it will probably offer the same six-speed unit as the Ford Edge. On the plus side, there will be adaptive steering to go along with three driving modes – Normal, Comfort and Sport. Lincoln Drive Control with continuously controlled damping also sounds beneficial. That's all we know so far, but we're looking forward to getting all the details, hopefully in just a few days, since the vehicle is said to be hitting showrooms in the summer of 2015. Ford recalls over 680,000 Ford Fusions, Mondeos, and Lincoln MKZs for seat belt pretensioners

Update: We spoke with a Ford representative who said that owners will be notified by mail during the week of January 16 . Dealers will also have the fix available at the same time. Owners can bring in their vehicles to dealers for an evaluation in the mean time. The main text has been updated to reflect this. The Basics: Ford is recalling 680,872 2013-2016 Ford Fusions, 2015-2016 Ford Mondeos, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ s for an issue with front driver-side and passenger-side seat belt pretensioners. The Problem: The seat-belt pretensioners did not have sufficient insulation applied. When the pretensioners are activated, the heat generated can cause the cables connected to the belts to separate, which in turn can prevent the seat belts from effectively restraining the occupant. This can lead to injuries. Injuries/Deaths: Ford reports two accidents and two injuries have occurred that are related to this recall. The fix: A dealer technician will inject an insulation coating around the pretensioner. This should effectively keep the heat away from the cables, ensuring the seat belt will properly restrain the user in a collision. If you own one: Affected owners will be notified by mail on the week of January 16. Dealers will have the fix available that week, and owners will be able to bring in their vehicles for the fix to be implemented free of charge. Related Video:
