I have for your consideration a 1978 Lincoln Continental.  It has approx 67,000 original miles on it.  It has the 460 engine, with automatic transmission.  Both of which work nicely.   Here is what I know/the story of this vehicle.  The vehicle was owned by an elderly couple and it was the wife's car.  In the early 1990's she got cancer.  The husband wanted to surprise her, so he had the car painted and a new vinyl top put on by one of the local Ford dealerships, (Alexander Ford).  The wife unfortunately succumbed to her illness.  The husband tried to drive the car, but the memory of his wife would not allow him to do that.  The vehicle was parked in a semi climate controlled basement, and actually "walled in"  so no one could get to it very easily.  That is where it sat until he decided to sell it, and that is where I came in.  He had offered to sell it to me a couple of times and then changed his mind, but he is up in years now so he offered again and I bought the car.
(Note:  I am friends with the family, and I know the information is accurate.)

I had the car brought to me on a roll back.  It was quite dusty from sitting and I knew it would need work.

The following is what I did to the car:

New gas tank, sending unit and fuel pump.
All new belts.
Water pump/timing chain cover was leaking.  All of that was fixed/replaced.
Since we were close, and the OEM timing gears were nylon, I replaced the timing chain and gears.
Complete tune up, new plug wires distributor cap, plugs etc
Fluids changed, prior to any attempt to start the vehicle.
New battery.
New tires.
New front brakes and rotors.
I had the car detailed, and it uncovered a very very nice paint job.

Here are the issues left with the car:

The A/C is not working.
The power door locks are not working.
The left turn signal inside does not illuminate.  turn signals work fine.
The leather upholstery has discolored some over the years.
The car has no catalytic converters on it.  I can get them put on for $250, if needed.

Everything else works on the car to the best of my knowledge. Radio, power antenna, power windows including the power "vent" windows, power seats, all lights, headlight covers, etc etc

My intentions were to use this car on the weekend and just to "cruise" around in.  It rides/drives like it is on a sheet of glass.

The major reason for selling is that that the driver's area is not big enough for me.  I am a a tall and big person, 6'8" 385lbs.  The first time I sat in the driver's seat was after all of the work was done, and that is when I found out there is not a much room in the Lincoln as was in my 1988 Cadillac Brougham.  I thought about moving the seat back and all of that but I wanted to keep the car original, so I decided to sell it.

Now if you are still here after all of that, it is time for pics.

The car is sold "as is" no warranty express or implied.  500 dollar deposit via Paypal, balance in cash or cashier's check.  All checks must clear before the car will be released.
This car has a lot of potential, and a lot of life left in her.

I priced it about half way of what the range is in the NADA book.

Please look at the photos closely and if you have any questions e mail me, I will respond ASAP.  Thanks

Note:  Someone wanted to know what the white was on the side of the vehicle.  That is just the reflection from the lines in the parking lot.  The paint is that good on this vehicle.

These are the slowest-selling new cars of 2024

Fri, Apr 26 2024

While overall sales numbers are a solid indicator of an automaker’s success, another metric can show how well its new vehicles resonate with buyers on the ground. iSeeCars recently released a list of the fastest- and slowest-selling new car companies on the market, and a handful of brands appear to have some catching up to do. Lincoln landed the “top spot” among slow-selling brands, taking an average of 82.6 days to move inventory. Infiniti wasnÂ’t much better, at 79.8 days, and Buick came third with 79 days to sell.  Slowest-selling new cars of 2024 Lincoln: 82.6 days to sell Infiniti: 79.8 Buick: 79 Audi: 75.1 Ram: 69.7 Ford: 68.1 Dodge: 67.4 GMC: 66.6 Acura: 65.4 Lexus: 64.5 iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer noted that the fastest-selling brands, which include Toyota, Alfa Romeo, and Cadillac, likely move inventory because they resonate with buyersÂ’ desire for value and a compelling product. The study also noted that seeing GMC, Ford, and Ram so low on the list likely indicates slowing truck sales, which comprise a significant portion of those brandsÂ’ numbers. ItÂ’s also possible that buyers are turned off by higher prices from those brands. Fast-selling new car brands also appeared on the used car list, where Honda, Lexus, and Toyota dominated. Unfortunately for Lincoln, it also made the slow-selling used list, between Maserati as the slowest and Alfa Romeo in third. iSeeCarsÂ’ analysis also examined EV and hybrid sales and found that hybrids tend to sell much faster than their electric counterparts. In March 2024, new hybrids took an average of 49.5 days to sell, while EVs took 70.6 days. That again brings us to the price and value arguments, where hybrids are significantly less expensive than EVs, though charging and range concerns also likely play a role. Ford fixing 130k vehicles in three recalls

Wed, Oct 28 2015

Ford is issuing three new safety campaigns that cover a total of 130,801 vehicles in North America, but the company has no reports of accidents, injuries, or fires from any of these issues. The largest of these campaigns covers 128,823 examples of the 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX that are currently registered or originally sold in rust-prone areas of North America, including 110,636 in the US. On these crossovers, "corrosion under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted" can potentially result in a fuel leak. To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the tank and will repair or replace it as necessary. The affected locations are: Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin; and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. Ford is also recalling 1,906 North American examples of the 2016 Mustang, including 1,900 in the US, because of possible damage to some components during shipping to the factory. On the affected pony cars, "dealers will replace front and rear seat belt assemblies, rear seat buckle assemblies, and child tethers," the company says in its statement. Finally, the smallest campaign is for 72 units of the 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab in North America, including 65 in the US. On these, the trailer brakes don't activate when pressing the brake pedal, and dealers need to update the powertrain control module software. Lincoln plans electrified versions of all models by 2022, say sources

Fri, Sep 8 2017

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co's premium Lincoln brand plans to offer hybrid gasoline-electric versions of all its U.S. models by 2022, according to three sources familiar with the plans. Details could be announced as early as Oct. 3, when Ford Chief Executive Officer Jim Hackett plans to update investors on the automaker's strategy. Company officials are also considering whether to introduce one or more all-electric Lincoln models, one source said. The proposed electrification scheme could be critical to Lincoln's future in China, which will require automakers to make electric vehicles an increasing percentage of their total sales. The Lincoln hybrids are part of a broader Ford program to offer at least 18 new electric and hybrid models over the next five years, the sources said. Lincoln aims to follow a path blazed this year by several European premium brands, including Daimler AG, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group's Volvo Cars, BMW and Jaguar Land Rover, all of which have announced plans to offer more hybrid and all-electric vehicles. Global luxury brands are responding to competitive pressure from Elon Musk's Tesla Inc, and proposals by the Chinese government to mandate significantly higher levels of electric vehicle sales in the world's largest auto market. The plan to offer a portfolio of Lincoln hybrid models was crafted before Hackett took over in May, the sources said. Ford said in January 2016 it would spend $4.5 billion to electrify a portion of its U.S. fleet, including hybrid versions of the Mustang and the F-150, and at least 11 other models. The extent of its electrification effort, including details on specific new and redesigned models, has not previously been disclosed. A Ford spokesman said the company would not comment on future products. As the Lincoln brand rolls out redesigned versions of its existing models and introduces at least one new model, it is planning to introduce plug-in hybrid versions of those vehicles, beginning with the redesigned MKC crossover and the new Aviator crossover in 2019, the sources said. The redesigned Lincoln Navigator utility vehicle, which goes on sale this autumn, is expected to add a conventional hybrid version in 2019. Subsequent redesigned Lincoln models, including the MKZ sedan in 2020 and the Continental sedan and MKX crossover in 2022, are expected to include plug-in hybrid variants, the sources said.
