1961 Lincoln
Up for auction is a beautiful example of the first year Lincoln ever made with the infamous suicide doors. This is a matching number's car with the original engine, trans, and correct paint & interior colors. It has been owned by one other family here in SoCal besides myself and always stored indoors. Less than 3% of all Lincolns built from 1961-1965 were factory black cars and this is one of them (Paint code-A Presidential Black and interior code-20 black/white cloth & leather upholstery). Absolutely zero rust issues anywhere and all original body panels throughout. California car since the early 60's with original Black plates. I have a ton of paperwork and maintenance records including an original assembly manual for the car. The previous owner was maticulous about the maintenance on this Lincoln and kept notes of all the work done to it over the years. Everything works as it should including ICE-Cold A/C, all electrical components, dash guages, wipers, all 4 power windows (new motors just installed), power seat, power door locks, interior lights, cigarette lighter, exterior lights, trunk light, turn signals, ect.. The factory AM radio is the only thing that needs attention, it works but needs new speakers.
The original 430 engine and automatic trans were pulled out back in 2005 and completely rebuilt. The powertrain now has about 20k weekend miles since the rebuild. Starts right up on first key turn and shifts very smooth into all 3 gears. Everything on the rebuild is stock except for an upgraded electric fuel pump that was recently installed and it has also been converted from a stock generator to a new style alternator. I also just had the carburator professionally rebuilt last week. The differential was pulled out and overhauled about 6 months ago as well. Cruises at 80mph on the highway without hesitation and has excellent power for such a large car. Power brakes and power steering work perfect and the car drives with great ease around town.
All the chrome trim is original to the car and in excellent shape. Nothing has been re-chromed, it's just been polished over the years and taken good care of. The interior is nice and clean and the headliner and carpet were just replaced last month. Original glass all around in excellent shape with 5% Limo tint professionally installed. Car was repainted several years ago by previous owner and still looks good. There are some minor paint imperfections and tiny chips from average use over the years but nothing major and as you can see in the pics she still shines beautifully.
The Lincoln has one of a kind custom 20" wheels built specially for the car (they cost $2500). The wheels were made to look very streamline and even the valve stems are hidden on the inside. They fit perfect and have no rubbing issues. Brand new low profile Yokohama tires just installed with less than 1000 miles on them. I still have the original wheels and hub caps and will include them with the car if the new owner wants them.
This car turns heads and gets thumbs up wherever I take it. I often get stopped and asked if it's the car from the movie "In Time". The Lincoln Continental's built for that movie were also 61's and have the same style wheels. Here's your chance to own an iconic American Luxury sedan that will only appriciate in value as time goes on. I have a clean California title in hand ready to be transferred to the new owner.
Car is available for inspection by any serious bidder during this auction so feel free to send me a message with your phone number and I will call you to set up an appointment. As all other classic cars it is being sold in AS IS condition and there is no warranty included in this sale. Please ask questions if you are unsure of anything prior to bidding. This is a NO RESERVE listing so the car will go to the highest bidder no matter what. View my feedback and bid with confidence. Thanks for viewing my listing.

In the case of Henry Leland, naming his new car brand after the first President he cast a vote for in 1864 seemed a jolly good idea, on paper. You should always be careful about the name you choose to give your new baby. The power of association can work in many ways, not always positive.

The numbers, they are in: BMW has reclaimed the luxury-sales crown from Mercedes by a margin of 9,347 cars. Mercedes donned the king's headgear in 2013 after a strong final quarter of 2013 when the new CLA and S-Class poured out of dealerships. This year, led by the 3 Series/4 Series and X5, BMW sold 339,738 units – a 9.8-percent increase year-on-year. Mercedes, led by the C-Class and M-Class, saw its sales go up by 5.7 percent to 330,391 units. We'll have to wait a bit to see if there's another registrations-vs-sales challenge as in 2012, when BMW was anointed US luxury ruler. Behind them, a dark horse named Lexus nudged closer to the leading Teutons, selling 311,389 cars. The Japanese luxury automaker also had the biggest gain among the top three, its sales rising by 13.7 percent compared to 2013. Audi had the biggest sales of anyone among the top five, though, with a 15.2-percent gain to 182,011, which moved it a spot ahead of Cadillac; the Wreath-and-Crest brand dropped 6.5 percent to 170,750. Acura (167,843), Infiniti (117,300), and Lincoln (94,474) took the final positions. Speaking of Lincoln, sales at the once-mighty luxury marque stand as the mightiest jump of any on this list, up 15.6 percent. That's the power of Matthew McConaughey... and better cars and a new crossover, sure. So now that we're back to Round One of 2015, in case no one else has said it yet: "Ok, fight!"

Those of you that caught yesterday's op-ed about Lincoln will have heard already, but Mark LaNeve has taken the helm at Team Detroit. Once the North American vice president of sales, service and marketing for General Motors, LaNeve will now head up the agency that handles all of Ford advertising. LaNeve will also run the account for Lincoln. While at GM from 2001 to 2009, the exec oversaw ad campaigns like Cadillac's Breakthrough and sales initiatives like "Employee Pricing for Everyone." He left in 2009 to join Allstate as chief marketing officer, oversaw the creation of the Mayhem ad spots and was moved into the role of VP of agency operations overseeing Allstate's 10,000 agents. He resigned from the insurer in February 2012 for personal reasons and joined Team Detroit in August 2012 as chief operating officer, in charge of satellite offices in New York and internationally. He replaces ex-CEO Cameron McNaughton, and will continue to hold the title of COO. Lincoln is trying to get its 2013 back to rights after putting big dollar commercials for the 2013 MKZ on television then having production glitches preventing cars from getting to dealerships. With rumors of a relaunch in the works, it's no surprise LaNeve has been given the reins - and from here it looks like the brand is desperate for the kind of magic he's proved he can marshal. Perhaps he can start by calling a mulligan on the renaming exercise that gave us the hoary "Lincoln Motor Company" and go back to oh, say, "Lincoln." Then he can ask the product folks to get to work on the MKC concept...
