1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible on 2040-cars
Sacramento, California, United States
In 1961, the Continental was completely redesigned by Elwood Engel. Originally intended to be the 1961 Ford Thunderbird, the design was enlarged and slightly altered before being switched to the Lincoln line by Robert McNamara. The '61 is the only Continental model with the "Thunderbird Grill", which is one feature that sets it apart from the later models. The new Continental's most recognized trademark, front-opening rear "suicide doors". The doors were to become the best-known feature of 1960s Lincolns. The 1961 Continental was Elwood Engel's Magnum Opus, as he was responsible for the complete design of the car. Only 2,857 were produced in 1961 and you are bidding on one of them. This generation of Continental is favored by collectors and has appeared in many motion pictures, such as Goldfinger, The Matrix, Last Action Hero, Kalifornia, Spider-Man 2, Hit and run, Animal House, and the Inspector Gadget films. It has also appeared in the television series Pushing Daisies, in the opening sequence of the television series Entourage, and as the vehicle of choice for Michael Chiklis's character Vincent Savino in the series Vegas. This car gets more attention than most other classics or current cars everywhere I drive it. When the tops down on a sunny day, you can't beat the ride. The car is in good shape. Runs and drives and top works flawlessly. The power windows all work as well as the automatic seats and all other gauges except the clock. Still can't believe that cars had so many features over 50 years ago. The vacuum locks don't work and there is no antenna, but the radio works great. The body is straight, and the chrome is all there and in great shape. There is some surface rust (see pictures) and the paint isn't perfect, but looks great on the road. The car rides on a brand new set of Coker tires. The original interior is in remarable condition for being the original. The leather is in great shape. The dash is clean and is free from any sun damage. The engine looks and runs well. Car has a minor oil leak and stalls from time to time if she hasn't been driven in a while. I purchased my dream car last year and unfortuneately work is moving me to a major metropolitan area and I can't figure out a way to keep this beauty in my life. My understanding is that I am the third owner and that the 54,000 miles are original (can't confirm). I bought the car from Minnesota from the second owner who purchased it from an estate sale. He cleaned it up and sold it to me. Please e-mail or call anytime you have a question, I am happy to answer any question you have so you can bid with confidence. Enjoy the pictures. E-mail me if you would like to see video of the car starting and the top closing. I would love to see this pretty girl go to an owner who will love her like I do. Also, while the buyer is responsible for shipping, I am happy to assist in any way to make sure she gets to you safe and sound. Thanks. |

2015 Lincoln MKC
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Back in 2012, Lincoln claimed its comeback bid was finally underway with the new-for-2013 MKZ. But don't you believe them - the renaissance won't actually begin in earnest until the shapely compact crossover seen here reaches showrooms in big numbers. That's because while the four-door MKZ was indeed a proper step toward rebirth, the 2015 MKC is the first wholly conceived vehicle under Lincoln as a standalone brand, a move first announced back in 2012.
That's an important distinction, because Lincoln's newfound emancipation from Ford's design and development processes has given the struggling marque both the corporate wherewithal and the will to develop a more fully formed product. The four-wheeled result seen here is a surprisingly cohesive luxury CUV, one with significantly more aesthetic and dynamic separation from its Ford Escape sibling than the MKZ and its Fusion counterpart. Said another way, after flogging Lincoln's latest for hundreds of miles over canyon roads outside of Santa Barbara, we've come to understand that this is far from a re-grilled Dearborn special with luxury tinsel - it's a bona fide standalone product that readily displays the sort of clear differentiation seen in platform cousins like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It's the real deal.
2020 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrid range, fuel economy revealed
Mon, Dec 9 2019The range-topping 2020 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrid luxury crossover finally has official fuel economy ratings. The electric range is 21 miles, and when the battery is exhausted, gas-only combined fuel economy is 23 mpg. The EPA's combined electric and gas test loop yielded 56 mpg-e. These numbers make the Aviator Grand Touring the most frugal version of the three-row luxury crossover, with the next most efficient one being the rear-drive non-hybrid model at 21 mpg combined. When going by gas-only fuel economy, though, the Aviator Grand Touring's non-plug-in cousin, the Ford Explorer Hybrid, returns up to 28 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive, and 25 mpg with all-wheel drive. It has much less power at 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque, compared to the Aviator Grand Touring's 494 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. The luxury plug-in hybrid crossover segment is quite small right now. The closest competitor to the Aviator Grand Touring is probably the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid. It has a shorter electric range of 13 miles, and its gas-only fuel economy is a slightly worse at 22 mpg. The Porsche is less powerful with 455 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, and its base price of $82,450 exceeds the Lincoln's $69,895 price. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e splits the difference on efficiency with a worse 10-mile electric range, but a better gasoline fuel economy of 25 mpg combined. This could improve for 2020, as the updated model will have a larger battery. It's cheaper, too, at $51,645, but it's also a full size smaller than the Lincoln.
