1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible on 2040-cars

Year:1961 Mileage:54690
Location:

Sacramento, California, United States

Sacramento, California, United States

In 1961, the Continental was completely redesigned by Elwood Engel.  Originally intended to be the 1961 Ford Thunderbird, the design was enlarged and slightly altered before being switched to the Lincoln line by Robert McNamara. The '61 is the only Continental model with the "Thunderbird Grill", which is one feature that sets it apart from the later models.  The new Continental's most recognized trademark, front-opening rear "suicide doors".  The doors were to become the best-known feature of 1960s Lincolns.

The 1961 Continental was Elwood Engel's Magnum Opus, as he was responsible for the complete design of the car. Only 2,857 were produced in 1961 and you are bidding on one of them.

This generation of Continental is favored by collectors and has appeared in many motion pictures, such as GoldfingerThe MatrixLast Action HeroKaliforniaSpider-Man 2Hit and runAnimal House, and the Inspector Gadget films. It has also appeared in the television series Pushing Daisies, in the opening sequence of the television series Entourage, and as the vehicle of choice for Michael Chiklis's character Vincent Savino in the series Vegas

This car gets more attention than most other classics or current cars everywhere I drive it.  When the tops down on a sunny day, you can't beat the ride.

The car is in good shape.  Runs and drives and top works flawlessly.  The power windows all work as well as the automatic seats and all other gauges except the clock.  Still can't believe that cars had so many features over 50 years ago.  The vacuum locks don't work and there is no antenna, but the radio works great.

The body is straight, and the chrome is all there and in great shape.  There is some surface rust (see pictures) and the paint isn't perfect, but looks great on the road.  The car rides on a brand new set of Coker tires.

The original interior is in remarable condition for being the original.  The leather is in great shape.  The dash is clean and is free from any sun damage.

The engine looks and runs well.  Car has a minor oil leak and stalls from time to time if she hasn't been driven in a while.

I purchased my dream car last year and unfortuneately work is moving me to a major metropolitan area and I can't figure out a way to keep this beauty in my life.  My understanding is that I am the third owner and that the 54,000 miles are original (can't confirm).  I bought the car from Minnesota from the second owner who purchased it from an estate sale.  He cleaned it up and sold it to me.

Please e-mail or call anytime you have a question, I am happy to answer any question you have so you can bid with confidence.  Enjoy the pictures.  E-mail me if you would like to see video of the car starting and the top closing.  I would love to see this pretty girl go to an owner who will love her like I do.  Also, while the buyer is responsible for shipping, I am happy to assist in any way to make sure she gets to you safe and sound.  Thanks.

Matthew McConaughey Lincoln pitches drive on with new MKZ ads

Mon, Dec 29 2014

You didn't think a few spoofs were going to break up Lincoln and pitch-man Matthew McConaughey, did you? With more than three million extra free views of Lincoln products on YouTube because of the send-ups – and no one is making fun of the car, remember – the brand rightly concludes, "We couldn't ask for better." That's why the pair are back, this time working on behalf of the MKZ and MKZ Hybrid. The two commercials "Balance" and "Diner" are new, but the formula is the same - cinematic, contemplative, channeling more than a bit of True Detective. They'll hit broadcast channels during college bowl games on New Year's Day. You can watch "Balance" above and "Diner" below, and the press release further down has more details. Matthew McConaughey Gets Behind Wheel of 2015 Lincoln MKZ in New Ads Airing Jan. 1 - The Lincoln Motor Company teams up again with Academy Award™ winner Matthew McConaughey to create Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid ad campaign that will begin airing during high-profile New Year's Day college football bowl games - Two new TV and online ads will promote Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid midsize sedans, which have given a new direction to the brand with their introduction two years ago - Lincoln's previous collaboration with McConaughey, the "Live in Your Moment" campaign, fueled early sales success of 2015 Lincoln MKC small premium utility DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 29, 2014 – In the bright spotlight of New Year's Day college football bowl games, The Lincoln Motor Company will launch its newest ad campaign promoting the 2015 Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid and featuring Matthew McConaughey. Filmed in a style and tone consistent with last summer's much-talked-about "Live in Your Moment" ads for the first-ever Lincoln MKC, the new campaign brings the attention back to the premium midsize sedan that has been Lincoln's best-selling vehicle since arriving in showrooms two years ago. "The overwhelming response to the MKC campaign sparked truly great awareness for Lincoln," said Andrew Frick, Group Marketing Manager Lincoln. "Matthew's natural storytelling ability perfectly complements the Lincoln story as we continue to raise awareness and drive conversation in creative and unexpected ways.

Lincoln MKC Concept shows real promise [w/video]

Sun, 13 Jan 2013

Ford's efforts to resuscitate its moribund Lincoln luxury brand began in earnest with the introduction of its 2014 MKZ sedan, a model many labeled as the marque's make-or-break offering. Of course, one model does not a comeback make, and with the MKZ just now starting to trickle into dealers, it will be some time before America's jury of consumers comes in with their judgment. More to the point, it's likely to take better than a decade's worth of products and sustained marketing effort to even begin to figure out whether Lincoln has a shot at redemption or if it will die of Mercury poisoning. After all, rival General Motors has been pouring resources into Cadillac since the late '90s, and if the sales charts are any guidance, it's still probably too early to declare its rebirth a success.
Certainly, a brand with Ford's resources, free of distractions (read: the now-defunct Premier Auto Group and various other side projects) should be able to successfully market a single luxury brand, particularly one with such a rich - if distant - history. Especially now with the Blue Oval enjoying more consumer goodwill than at any time in recent history. So let's all give Alan Mulally and friends a little room to work, eh?
We can start by focusing on the compact crossover seen before you, the Lincoln MKC Concept. Riding atop the same global C-platform that underpins the Ford C-Max, Escape and Focus, the MKC showcar here presages a production small CUV that will stick its distinctive nose into one of the auto industry's fastest-growing segments.

Lincoln MKC crossover adopts the Continental's grille

Thu, Jun 15 2017

The last vestiges of the controversial split Lincoln grille are slowly being removed as the company revamps its lineup. It started with the MKZ and Continental, with the most recent rhinoplasty recipient being the Navigator. Now, based on spy shots, it looks like the MKC crossover will be the fourth to get the new corporate grille. Under the heavy vinyl coverings, we can clearly see the proud Continental-inspired grille. We can also see that it will feature the same chrome mesh with Lincoln badge-shaped openings found on other cars with the grille design. We can also assume that the headlights will receive a substantial refresh, but the lower bumper doesn't look particularly different. The rest of this prototype MKC looks the same as the existing model. The back is covered, which indicates that the taillights may be updated. We wouldn't expect a radically different look, since the MKC already has a full-width taillight treatment. We also noticed that the wheels appear to be inspired by the cool turbine wheels of the Navigator. Whatever the other changes are, we'll probably see them soon. This is clearly just a refresh, and so there's a good chance we'll see the production model revealed by the end of the year, or early next year at the latest. Related Video:
