1961 Lincoln

Up for sale is my pride and joy, a 1961 Lincoln Continental. This is the first year of the suicide door models Lincoln ever made. This is a matching number's car with original engine and  transmission. Both were rebuilt a few years ago and the car is in excellent mechanical condition. It's been owned by one other family besides myself and always stored indoors. Absolutely zero rust issues and all original body panels throughout. I have a clean California title in hand registered to my name ready for transfer. Tags just paid until August 2015. This car turns heads and gets thumbs up wherever I drive it. Here's your chance to own an iconic American Luxury sedan that will only appropriate in value as time goes on.

The original 430 engine and 3-speed automatic trans were overhauled in 2010 and have about 5k miles since the rebuild. Car starts right up on first key turn and shifts very smooth into all 3 gears. Engine was rebuilt using newer internal parts so the car now runs on regular unleaded fuel. Cruises at highways speeds great and has a ton of power with that big block V8 under the hood. Power brakes and power steering work fine and the car maneuvers very easy for a 17+ foot car. Drives straight as an arrow on the road with no pulling to the sides. There are no oil leaks as is very common with these Lincolns. The suspension was lowered in front with custom performance springs to not affect the stock road feel of a classic Lincoln. Rear was dropped with lowering blocks. It handles impressive for such a large car. With the new suspension setup I can take 80mph tight turns on the highway and car still feels level and very much in control. Brand new wide white-wall tires with about 95% tread left.

All the chrome trim is original to the car and in great shape. Some of it has been re-chromed like the door handles, exterior emblems, some interior trim, and trunk moldings. Interior is nice and clean, the seats and trunk area were reupholstered about 6 months ago, and the rest of the interior was done a few years ago by the previous family. I also just replaced all the wood trim on the doors and dash area. The interiors on these early 60's Lincolns look absolutely stunning in my opinion. Car was painted about 5 years ago and still looks pretty good. Body panels all line up straight and there's perfect 1/4" spacing between fenders, hood, doors, and trunk. The doors open and close like the day it rolled off the assembly line. All 4 windows roll up and down like new. I just had the motors rebuilt and serviced the windows regulators so they move nice and quiet. Original glass all around in great shape. Everything in the electrical system works with the exception of the front power seat and AC system. On the seat issue the knobs to the seat control are broken ($85 on eBay for a new switch). I haven't tinkered with the air conditioning system much since I got the car. The air vents inside the car work fine and all the dash knobs are functioning but there is no cold air. The compressor is missing the belt as well. It might just need a service or a new compressor at most and you have ice-cold AC again. Aside from that the car is in pretty good shape and can be enjoyed as is or with a little extra work turned into a real gem of a classic. During its era this car was meant for royalty and honestly, that's how you feel when you're on the road behind the wheel of this beauty.

Car is available for inspection by any bidder during this auction. Give me a call if you would like to set up an appointment (714)351-9372. I am not interested in any trades so please don't ask. As all other classic cars it is being sold in AS IS condition. Please ask questions if you are unsure of anything before bidding. This is a No Reserve listing and the car will go to the highest bidder no matter what. View my feedback and bid with confidence. Thanks for your interest and good luck! :0)

Here's our best look yet at the production Lincoln Continental

Wed, Dec 16 2015

The team at Lincoln continues to strip off camouflage from the Continental in each new round of spy shots, and the latest set presents a luxury sedan that looks nearly ready for a debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. This one doesn't even need a tow truck to get around. The production Continental takes the handsome concept's design and translates its cues to the road with tiny alterations. The rectangular, mesh grille doesn't shine with chrome on this one, but that would be an easy addition for the Detroit show. The LED headlights look nearly the same with running lights that sweep upward at the corners. The bottom of the lower fascia sees the biggest tweak the company drops the thick chrome strip in favor of a thinner lip. Lincoln doesn't put any camo on the pillars, so these shots provide a great view of the roofline in profile. Look carefully along the beltline and you can spot where the designers incorporated the high-mounted door handles from the concept. This minor styling touch greatly helps to clean up the lines along the side. The rear sees bigger changes from the concept. For example, these undisguised taillights share the same shape but now have more visible red in them. The production version also wears a fairly simple integrated exhaust rather than the more complicated design before. The Continental will reportedly be available with the Lincoln-exclusive 3.0-liter EcoBoost and front- or all-wheel drive. Unlike the MKS that it will replace, the model's production will likely occur at the Flat Rock, MI, factory. Related Video:

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
