SC430

This is my 2002 Lexus SC430 that I have owned for nearly 4 years. I believe it has all the options available: leather, touch-screen navigation, Mark Levinson 9-speaker sound system, rear spoiler, heated seats with memory, CD changer, HomeLink, etc. You can get the full list of equipment here under 'Specifications'. The color is called 'Absolutely Red', and it is absolutely the color to have.  The red and tan color combo with the maple wood is just killer. The wood is real bird's-eye maple, no plastic imitations here.  It has 18" Sporza D5 chrome wheels replacing those ugly stock things.

The tires and rear brakes are nearly new, less than 2,000 miles. Fresh oil change and NH state inspection in September.  The retractable hardtop works flawlessly, as do all other creature comforts, no excuses.  It has been stored indoors in winters.  Complete with owner's manuals, full factory service manuals, nav DVD, socket for wheel locks, 2 keys with remote, and service records during my ownership.
I will also include a space-saver spare tire.  The SC430 was shipped from the factory with no spare because it had run-flat tires.  I don't like run-flats, so it now has regular 245/40R18 tires.  I bought a spare off eBay, just in case.  You can also get a kit from Lexus (or eBay) that has all the components to make this fit nicely in the trunk, but I didn't bother.  The Lexus tools are also included.

This has a rebuilt title. It was originally a Florida car, and was involved in an accident there in 2008.  It was purchased from the insurance company and professionally repaired in Illinois.  I do not have pictures before repair or know exactly what happened; I just know it was in the front.  When I purchased it in 2009, I had it inspected by Lexus of Northborough, MA, and they said all work had been done correctly and there was no suspension or frame damage. It now has 58,000 miles on it, and I have had -zero- problems with it beyond regular maintenance. This is a REBUILT title, not a SALVAGE title - big difference, no hassles with registration or insurance.  Unless you are looking to buy a car that is still under warranty, this should be a non-issue, but please check with your own DMV to be sure.  The dealer just completed an airbag recall that came out in September - full service, full tank of gas, and a car wash, all no charge.  I also own an Acura RL and a Mercedes SL55 AMG, and in my experience, Lexus service is by far the best.  This is an excellent chance to get an absolutely great deal on a great car.
Lexus style with Toyota reliability.

There are a couple of issues.  Nothing awful, but just so you know.   The driver's seat has a scratch in the bottom leather.  Not too bad, looks like maybe someone had a screwdriver in their pocket.  See photo.  The nose has many stone chips from lots of highway driving.  Again, see photos.  This is not a new car, so please don't expect it to be.  But even with the stone chips and some very small nicks, the paint is gorgeous.  The interior shows some age in the driver leather, but is overall very nice.  I don't think the rear seat has ever been used.

Please review all pictures below and call or e-mail me with questions.  NOTE:  the black thing with a wire on the top right corner of the windshield is an antenna for my portable satellite radio.  The antenna is magnetic and will be removed prior to sale.

If you want to talk, contact Dennis @ 603-249-6 oh 7 one.  I'm in Spofford, NH, just outside Keene, less than 2 hours from Boston or Hartford.  I am not a dealer, no fees, no taxes, no games.  Title in hand - please know what a rebuilt title means.  Inspections welcome BEFORE bidding.  It may get a few more miles on it before I let it go.  I will assist in any way I can in shipping, but shipping expenses are the responsibility of the buyer.  Pickup zip code is 03462.  Car does not leave the garage until all payments have cleared.  I will need a $500 Paypal deposit within 48 hours, and the balance within 10 days.  I recommend bank transfer for the least hassle; I will provide details if you choose this method of payment.  Good ol' Ben Franklins also work well.  For sale locally, ad may be canceled at any time.

Lexus resurrecting SC name for big, expensive coupe

Mon, Jun 29 2015

Lexus is preparing the SC nomenclature for its third act, after the first bombshell SC coupe from 1991 and the second, Desperate Housewives hardtop convertible evolution from 2001. The brand is aiming again for something that makes a deep mark, with rumored specs pointing to a large, heavy, powerful coupe that will square its spindle grille up against the Mercedes SL and BMW 6 Series. It will be built on the frame of the next-generation LS sedan, and Automobile says internal combustion motivation will come in three flavors. The starter will be a juiced-up version of the company's 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8, the one that currently makes 467 horsepower in the RC F. Stepping up from there will be some kind of hybrid powertrain good for around 500 horsepower; last year Motor Trend wrote that the hybrid would be based around a V6 ICE with Toyota's coming "multi-hybrid" system. The top step will be a twin-turbo version of the V8 that could exceed 600 hp. Early reports of dimensions have it at 185 inches long, 75 inches wide, and 53 inches tall. It is expected to use the world's first application of a ten-speed automatic transmission. It'll also get the RC F's torque vectoring mechanism for the rear-wheel-drive setup, though Car and Driver says an all-wheel drive option "might be added later." Aluminum and carbon fiber components will help manage weight. Its design will be inspired by the LF-LC concept, and right now its pricing is as murky as its looks. C/D posits an MSRP from $80,000 to $95,000, Automobile figures it will go "past the $100,000 mark," and MT pegs the situation at $150,000. All agree, however, that it will join the retail pipeline as a 2017 model.

Lexus' LFA Works now making carbon fiber bicycles... kind of

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

The LFA Works that produced the Lexus LFA hasn't had too much to do since the 500th example of the V10 supercar left the plant on December 15, 2012. So what are a bunch of carbon fiber experts meant to do with their time when they have some of the world's most advanced CFRP machinery but no engine to wrap it with? Why, make a bicycle, of course - and not just any bicycle, but the kind that costs one million Japanese yen ($10,000 US) and of which only 100 will be made.
Only they didn't really "make" it - the carbon fiber frame was sourced from Takumi, in Taiwan. On the face of it that's a shame, but it makes sense; when you've got a company like McLaren assisting bike manufacturer Specialized produce a road bike, it's clear that 'pushies' have got so advanced that a company can't just hop in and mold a $10K bike in six months. Beyond that frame it's got a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 group with electronic shifters, and it weighs 15 pounds.
However, the Lexus crafstmen did polish each frame for three hours, and the bike is said to embody the "principles and philosophy" of the supercar, while the brochure for the bike says it represents "a new chapter in Lexus history." That chapter is still all about rarity, though, since there's only one bike headed for Canada and two for the US.

What's in a trademark? Sometimes, the next iconic car name

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

The United States Patent and Trademark Office is a treasure trove for auto enthusiasts, especially those who double as conspiracy theorists.
Why has Toyota applied to trademark "Supra," the name of one of its legendary sports cars, even though it hasn't sold one in the United States in 16 years? Why would General Motors continue to register "Chevelle" long after one of the most famous American muscle cars hit the end of the road? And what could Chrysler possibly do with the rights to "313," the area code for Detroit?
