One owner, 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross wagon.  133,714 freeway miles, lifetime Henderson, Nevada vehicle.  Inline 6-cylinder engine, rear wheel drive, Xenon HID headlamps, premium audio with 6-disc in-dash changer, 8-way power driver and passenger seats, moon roof, chronograph instruments, chrome shift knob, Leather/Ecsaine Trim Package slotted/drilled rotors, red painted calipers, strut tower brace, white side marker lights, headlamp brows and dark tint.  Starts, runs and drives like new.  A/C blows cold, stereo sounds awesome and the car is an absolute gem to own and drive.  Looks and functions like a vehicle with half as many miles . . .

Rare quality condition for sure and this IS300 actually is rare.  Only 1,958 built for '02 and from 2002 to 2005 (years available) total SportCross production for all four years was just 3,078.  That means this bad boy will be worth like, a million dollars at some point in the future.  Probably several million . . .

No doubt about it, wagons are hot these days.  Body seams and panel alignment are tight, consistent and typically Lexus . . .

The SportCross's overall length is nearly identical to the sedan version but offers a lot more room in back and a lot more loading options . . .

Besides a much sleeker shape than the sedan, the SportCross comes with staggered wheels.  The sedan has 7-inch wide wheels front and rear but the wagon's rear wheels are a half inch wider, with one size up tires. (rear: 225/45ZR17 front: 215/45ZR17)

With a silky smooth inline six, sequential Sport Shift 5-speed automatic and rear wheel drive, the first generation IS was much desired when new and has been strong in the used car market ever since.  The SportCross brings a lot to the table (HIDs, killer audio, lots of seating/loading configurations) but another reason people want these so much is actually quite simple.  It's a Lexus; designed-in quality and built right in the first place.  This particular 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross is a respected, high quality vehicle having just one previous owner that (obviously) loved and cared for their ride.  Never been in an accident, great body, outstanding paint, gorgeous interior and mechanical reliability.  You should buy it . . .

My wife and I took this little wagon to Utah a day after it arrived at our facility.  It was then my driver for about two weeks.  Besides impeccable reliability and near functional perfection during that time, some important fundamentals stood out and I think these things separate the IS300 from the rest of the herd.  Handling and balance of this car reminded me again and again why top sport sedans (and wagons!) are proper front engine/rear wheel drive and unlike most 6-cylinders these days, the IS300 is an inline six.  Why does that matter?  It mostly doesn't except it seems smoother, sounds better and I like how it feels.  The IS300 is surprisingly up-market, too.  When I turned on the lights, ice-white illumination told me this bad boy had HIDs.  Pretty cool, and the chronograph cluster was fun too.  Both seats are 8-way power adjustable, the optional stereo is strong and the air blew ice-cold the whole time.  I'll admit having small concern about taking an unknown vehicle on a trip so soon after getting it.  My past experience with the brand should have set my mind at ease.   Every Lexus I've ever known has been a superbly built car and this gem was no different.  It simply does not look, feel, drive or function like a "high mileage" vehicle in any way.  The above pictures are Saturday morning a few hours after our very late arrival the night before  The little wagon performed marvelously and we had a great time.  Made all the better with a comfortable car that had enough room for an occasional relative, and we didn't mind being seen in it.

                                                                                                  -Foy

Driver and passenger frontal/side airbags, 8-way power driver and passenger seats, automatic air conditioning, tilt steering, 240-watt/9-speaker premium audio with 6-disc in-dash changer, amplifier and equalizer.  All of it in great condition . . .

This SportCross has the Leather/Ecsaine Trim package which includes the suede seat inserts, power passenger seat and HomeLink universal transceiver . . .

The back offers lot of loading configurations and there's even a "hidden" covered storage bin just behind the rear seat.  Under everything is a full size spare tire mounted on a matching alloy wheel . . .

133,714 is actually extremely low mileage for a 12-year old car.  With barely 11k a year, this Lexus is well below industry average . . .

A note from the owner.

I am a “used car dealer” but before that, I’m an automobile enthusiast.  I love original rare and high quality modified vintage cars and over the past decade I’ve been in business, have come to appreciate an expanding selection of high-demand, high value vehicles.  I specialize in and am always on the lookout for cars and trucks that were cherished by their previous owners.  I have an experienced eye for quality but I’ve discovered that my preferred buyer can instantly discern such a vehicle and I have therefore, built my business and reputation around finding these kinds of cars for this type of customer.  Super low miles and/or gentle ownership are strict requirements but a car must do something for me on a personal level if there is any hope of convincing you, the bidder, that this is an above average, exceptional vehicle.  If nothing about the car excites me, it probably won’t do much for you either and I would soon be out of business.

With just four employees and no sales people, I realize how unusual a “dealership” like mine may at first glance appear.  It has taken great care and effort to create such an organization and often, an unusually high investment in a particular car we are about to list.  To sell the best it is critical to have a trusted expert in my corner and Chris, owner of A-Best Auto Repair in Henderson, Nevada has my back.  He and his crew can fix anything; from a low budget beater to the absolute most expensive exotic you can name, no job is too big and no small detail unimportant.  They do an exhaustive 130 point inspection on each and every vehicle and nothing escapes their methodical investigation.  Experience has shown that everything I spend making a car truly “right” will come back to me not only with a higher selling price, but a happy customer that says good things about me.  Moreover; it allows my writer to describe the car with ease and confidence, something that simply is not possible unless he thinks it is true.  If major issues are found or the cost of fixing the car the way it should be makes it too expensive to sell, my choice is an easy one.  I simply absorb a few hundred dollars loss for my trouble and sell it at auction.

After the vehicle is fully sorted it arrives at our facility where it encounters the suspicious eye of Tom, my writer that creates the presentations you see on eBay.  He believes absolutely nothing I or anyone else tells him about the car as he combs over every inch, researches its history and documents originality and authenticity.  Historical significance, rarity, special features, possible modifications and much more are used to accurately describe the vehicle with integrity and honesty.  Most important for the potential buyer are the 100 to 150 high resolution pictures that I take myself.  The pricey equipment I use would be right at home in the hands of the very best professional photographers and I’ve developed a logical format that walks you around the entire vehicle with close-up shots of every square inch.  I provide detailed views of the interior, under the hood and then put it on a lift to show the undercarriage and confirm that the beauty of the car you are considering is not merely skin deep.  Even our detailers are enthusiastic about the cars they so meticulously clean.  This reconditioning can sometimes take several days and I’ve converted a paint booth, especially prepared for the professional clay bar and polishing each car lovingly receives.

Usually, I’ll also include a high definition video that shows the car doing its thing.  If it’s a fast car, we film it going fast.  If it’s a 4x4 you’ll see it crawling up a hill.  In every case you will hear things like a rumbling exhaust, working sound system and watch the temperature fall on a digital, laser thermometer pointed at an air conditioning vent.  How many “dealers” will video a Lotus Esprit doing a buck-eighty?  We do.

No “dealer,” on-line or in the real world, takes it to this level.  No other seller or organization provides you, the buyer, with so much information.  I do this because it is the only way I can convince a person; often a world away, unable to touch or feel their purchase, that my vehicle is for real and what I say is the truth.  All the above is necessary for me to stay in business while keeping integrity intact.  I want every buyer to be happy and I need glowing feedback on eBay.  To accomplish that I need satisfied customers that are as thrilled with their purchase as I was when I bought it.

If you have any questions at all, please call me on my cell at: 702-353-7500.  If your inquiry is sincere and your offer  serious, you’ll find me the most accommodating business partner you’ve ever dealt with.  If you call or e-mail asking for my reserve or “what is my bottom line” I will be looking for ways to politely end the conversation.  Until you are ready to actually pull the trigger, I will happily quote you the absolute highest nationally advertised suggested retail price I can find – a number we both know will not buy the car so, don’t waste your time, or mine.  I am after all, a “used car dealer.”

Serious buyers know the maximum they can offer.  I then must simply decide if I can sell for that number.

If you hit the reserve, the decision is no longer mine.  I must sell at that number.

The 2016 Lexus RX is more of everything [w/video]

Wed, Apr 1 2015

Both literally and symbolically, the RX is Lexus. The crossover accounts for more than a third of the brand's overall sales. Last year Lexus moved 107,490 RX 350s, almost as much as every BMW SUV combined. The first-generation RX 300 was such a hit it forced other luxury automakers to follow suit. And the outgoing third-gen model epitomizes the current challenge Lexus faces: it's comfortable, but boring – exactly like the reputation the brand wants to shed. The new 2016 Lexus RX, then, is the Lexus weathervane. In short: more style, space, and technology while retaining the plushness that keeps current owners happy. As is current Lexus tradition, the RX gets a massive spindle grille. And while there are more creases and character lines than before, the overall styling is softer than the angular NX. The conservative approach shows that Lexus took a cautious approach to its cash cow, while using lower-volume models like the RC coupe to push boundaries. Still, Lexus has made an honest attempt at sporting up the RX. The RX 350 retains the 3.5-liter V6 but gets a 30-horsepower boost to 300 hp, and the RX 450h now makes 300 ponies as well. In all-wheel-drive guise, both models can be had in F Sport trim, which brings exterior tweaks like 20-inch wheels and a unique instrument cluster. F Sport models also include an active stabilizer system to minimize roll in corners. All RX models also come with dampers and steering that automatically adjust to the driving situation. Inside, the new RX is loaded up with features, like a standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen and an optional color head-up display. A list of electronic safety features is too long to mention, but includes collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. See the press release below for the full rundown, or just trust us when we say you can get the RX with almost every driving aid out there. The rear seats now feature a power-fold feature, and when the seats are up second row passengers are treated to more leg- and knee-room. That extra interior space comes from an overall stretching of the RX. Wheelbase grows 1.9 inches, while length is up almost five inches. What the new RX doesn't yet have, but we're told is on the way, is a third row of seats. The added versatility of a seven-passenger version should broaden the appeal of the RX to a wider audience. Expect to see the RX 350 and RX 450h in showrooms by the end of the year, with the three-row version coming sometime in 2016.

Lexus eschews production in China over quality concerns

Sat, 03 May 2014

One of the more popular trends in the auto industry is setting up production operations in China. Mainstream manufacturers like Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen have done it, and even luxury marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have or will soon have manufacturing ops in the People's Republic.
One company that isn't building cars in China, though, is Lexus. The Toyota-owned luxury brand still manufactures all of its vehicles in Japan (aside from a few RXs, which are built at a Toyota factory in Canada). According to Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus just isn't ready to build cars there yet.
"The German Three have a brand image that they have cultivated over the past century in their long history, but Lexus is not in people's minds like that yet," Fukuichi-san told Reuters UK.

2015 Lexus RC F

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

I didn't get a chance to drive the Lexus IS F until 2009, two years after the car had gone on sale, but I still vividly remember the day it happened. Having piloted almost every other vehicle in the Lexus lineup at that point, I was stoked to finally get some wheel time in the V8-powered, flared-fender muscle sedan, but fully expected the car to offer a quick, sanitized and ultimately un-driverly experience. Lexus built well-screwed-together, comfortable, quiet, reliable luxury cars for the timid, right?
As it turned out, I was 100-percent incorrect. When the premium brand's lauded "skunkworks team" crammed that massive V8 into the innocent IS, and then tuned the thing for competent hot laps at Fuji Speedway (F = Fuji, if you haven't heard), they seemingly forgot every brand value that Lexus had curated over the previous 20 years. It was raw and loud, had fast-twitch reflexes and a penchant for power slides, and it went unyieldingly across the road surface like a racecar cut loose from the paddock.
As far as Ur- models and origin stories go, the IS F and Lexus F has a pretty compelling, if new, set. A backdrop against which the sequel, this 2015 RC F, must inevitably be viewed. Sure, the otherworldly LFA may have intervened as the second F model, but the RC carries forward an evolution of the 5.0-liter V8 thumper, some shared body and chassis constructions, similar in-your-face design and a ticket price that's squarely in the mix for premium buyers with a hankering to smoke tires.
