Lexus - The Pursuit of Perfection
This is actually a very good slogan. No I don’t work for Lexus, or a Lexus dealership. I am a private individual with a severe addiction to automobiles. I’m taking getting therapy and taking medication, I’m told there’s hope. (kidding) Owning over 50 cars over the last 40 years, I’ve had the good fortune to sample just about every car I’ve wanted, save a few of the loftier nameplates like Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini.
It’s a good slogan because in my experience, no car I have ever owned made it so apparent to me that what the designers were trying to do, was to achieve perfection. It took me months to understand this car. Every time I drove this car, every time I looked at this car, for at least the first three months or longer, (since I didn’t drive the car very much) I discovered something about the way it worked, or the way something felt, or the line of something in the design, or discovered something I didn’t even know the car had.
What I can tell you for sure is this, of all the cars I have ever owned...this one is without a doubt, the closest to perfection over anything else. Period. And for me, that’s quite a statement. I’ve been an auto enthusiast since I was 10 years old, when my father brought home a brand new black 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL. That was it for me, from that day on, I have been a certified car-o-holic.
So why sell it? Because this is what I do. I buy, I enjoy them for a little while, and then I move on. I love cars, they are my passion. I read, I look, I drive, I understand what the car manufacturers are trying to do, besides making money.
It is a fascinating business, from the conceptual designs, to the manufacturing, even the marketing aspect of the car business is interesting to me.
To get on with it...
What I am offering up for sale is a gorgeous 2013 Lexus GS350 AWD “F” Sport with only 3600 miles. Yes, it has All Wheel Drive and it is an “F” Sport, which Lexus enthusiasts know all about. I actually sold two cars to get into this one, the theory being an all wheel drive sedan would serve all my needs, and therefore I would not need a second car. Well, this car lived up to every part of the bargain, but I couldn’t. My overwhelming desire took over and I also had to purchase a new FR-S when they came out last fall.
One of the many outstanding features of this car has to be the interior. The color is extraordinary, Merlot. You do not see this very often and it is striking. Besides all of the other interior design features, this color combination is exceptional. The manager of our Lexus store here had to trade his in for one with this color interior after he fell in love with this one.
The “F” Sport is another breed altogether. I call this the car with ‘multiple personalities’. Because in fact it is three cars in one. It has an ‘eco’ mode, which changes the engine mapping and shift points to yield the maximum amount of mileage. And it does very well with this when driven conservatively.
Then it has the ‘Normal’ mode, which is just that, a GS350 is amazing in Normal mode.
Then there are two more levels of fun...
One is the ‘Sport’ mode, which changes engine mapping and shift points for maximum power. Then there is ‘Sport+’ mode, which I like to call the ‘Porsche’ mode, because the magnetic suspension dampers are computer controlled to deliver maximum balance, while the engine and transmission are tuned for maximum output, it is an untamed beast at that point. A wolf in sheeps clothing. Youngsters in their muscle cars will be embarrassed beyond their wildest dreams if they decide to provoke the white-haired gentleman in his Lexus with the ‘Sport+’ mode engaged. It’s a bad day for the young guy.
Needless to say, there isn’t much call for that, but it’s amazing as you’re driving this car when you realize all the capability this car has designed into it. Not to mention the fact that if the weather goes bad, this car is as sure-footed as a Jeep! Stable, secure, effortless to drive on slick roads in the worst conditions. They’ve even thought to de-ice the wipers. Now why haven’t cars had this before now? They left nothing alone, everything has been addressed, even the way the car unlocks itself for you, and the ‘one-touch’ it takes on any door, to lock it again. Incredible.
So I don’t miss a single detail, I’m going to copy the information listed on the window sticker. If you have any questions about any of this, please ask me and I’ll be happy to provide more detail.

Luxury coupes like this new, 2015 Lexus RC 350 have got, to my mind, a more challenging mission than their all-out-performance variants; in this case, the recently reviewed RC F.
That's not to say that I think actual owners and shoppers of cars like the RC F, BMW M4 and Cadillac CTS-V Coupe only care about output figures and lap times. In fact I'd say that those are outliers in terms of how they get used most often. But the story that we reviewers tell - and that shoppers in the ego-boosted segment tell themselves before they pull the trigger - have a lot to do with what the car is capable of on the edge of its envelope.
Mainstream coupes can't rely on that kind of irrational pull, however, at least outside of the emotional world of styling persuasion. For a buyer to drop more than $40,000 on the RC 350, he or she will want tons of features, comfort, good looks, and, yes, a dash of sportiness to spice of the pot. Reason and desire seem a lot more balanced here. That's great news for Lexus, with its history of creating sensible luxury cars and a pretty composed luxury coupe in this new RC.

UPDATE: Reached for comment, Lexus told Autoblog that it "cannot offer comment on the potential naming of a production version of the LF-LC concept" and pointed out that automakers trademark nameplates as a matter of course. Some automakers already slap a production-ready name on their concepts, but not Lexus. The Japanese automaker typically labels its show cars with the letters LF-XX. So when we heard that Toyota had green-lit the LF-LC concept for production, we naturally started wondering what name the production version would carry. But if the latest intel is any indication, we can stop wondering. According to Lexus Enthusiast, the automaker has filed to trademark the names LC 500 and LC 500h in a variety of markets – including the United States, Canada and Australia. The application tells us a number of things: first of all, that the LF-LC will retain that second set of letters along the road to production (like the NX but unlike other recent Lexus concepts). And secondly, it indicates what engines we can expect to find under the hood. The 500 designation would seem to suggest that the base version of Lexus' upcoming halo sports car will pack the 5.0-liter V8 from the RC F. The bigger question mark is over the hybrid version. Current gasoline-electric models in the company's lineup include the RX 450h (based on a 3.5-liter V6) and the LS 600h (with a 5.0-liter V8). For the LC 500h, Lexus could be planning a more potent electric motor to mate to the 3.5L V6, or planning a new powertrain altogether.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed yesterday that 33.8 million vehicles with Takata airbags are going to be recalled. It's the largest recall in automotive history. The already record-breaking rate of automotive recalls this year shows no signs of slowing down, especially since millions of cars with defective airbags made by global supplier Takata are under ongoing scrutiny. The federal government is warning owners that inflator mechanisms in the air bags can rupture, causing metal fragments to fly out when the bags are deployed. The faulty air bags have already been blamed for multiple deaths. How do you know if your vehicle is safe? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released an updated list of vehicles under recall. Sometimes however, the government's website will crash and the list may not be complete. Check your VIN at the NHTSA website to make sure. The list of cars affected by the recall has not been released, but seem to span multiple models over the years for many of the automakers.
