The front-wheel-drive 2011 Lexus ES 350 is an excellent entry in the luxury mid-size segment. It takes a proven powertrain from parent company Toyota and adds a healthy lineup of luxury equipment to present a very comfortable and understated package.A 3.5L V6 with dual Variable Valve Timing powers the ES 350, helping it put out 272 hp through a 6-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission, the only powertrain available. Lexus claims a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.8 seconds with EPA fuel economy rated at 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The ES rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and is also a nimble handler thanks to a fully independent suspension and speed-sensing, progressive power steering. Inside is where the ES really shines however. Standard luxury features include dual-zone automatic climate control, Lexus Memory to control the driver's seat, sideview mirrors and steering wheel, a supple leather interior with brown walnut or bird's eye maple accents. The ES also features loads of standard technology goodies, like Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and an 8-speaker sound system with in-dash, 6-disc CD stereo. Standalone options on the ES include HID adaptive headlamps and a pre-collision system with dynamic radar cruise control. Popular options packages include a $4,065 Navigation/Mark Levinson Package that boasts a voice-activated hard-disk navigation system, color LCD display with backup camera, Bluetooth and a 14-speaker, 300-watt premium surround sound audio system with an in-dash CD/DVD auto changer. The Ultra-Luxury Package adds perforated semi-aniline leather, special wood inlays, heated and ventilated front seats and a panorama glass roof. The ES 350 excels in the safety department, with stability and traction control, anti-lock braking with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a bevy of airbags for both front and rear passengers

Lexus LC convertible possibly spied in production form
Mon, Oct 14 2019Following a concept reveal at the beginning of the year and confirmation of production a few months ago, we've finally got a glimpse of what may be the production Lexus LC convertible. The droptop was spied during a photo shoot in Los Angeles. It appears to be wearing the "Structural Blue" hue that made its debut at SEMA a couple years ago. While the concept shown at Detroit looked nearly production-ready, there are small differences between it and this photo car. Close examination shows that this version has a small wind blocker and differently shaped rear seat backs. These pieces match up with the prototype that appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The main difference between this car and the Goodwood example is that this photo car has more finished trim around the tonneau cover. Another difference from the Detroit concept is the fact the rear tonneau has a section finished in the same color upholstery as the interior. Though Lexus confirmed the LC convertible for production, it hasn't given any indication as to when it will go on sale. The fact that Lexus is doing photo shoots of the car has us thinking it will be revealed and put on sale in time for the next model year, making November's LA Auto Show a prime choice. It will undoubtedly be fitted with a choice of the 471-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 or the 354-horsepower V6 hybrid powertrain.
Calgary Airport converts handicap parking to Lexus-only stalls
Wed, Aug 23 2017At the YYC Calgary International Airport, travelers found that the usual accessible parking spots (referred to handicap or disability parking here in the U.S.) near the doors had been painted over, no longer saved for the people who need them. Instead, they were reserved for Lexus drivers as part of a marketing campaign. Understandably, the airport received a complaint after a family with access needs entered the short-parking area to find the Lexus logos painted where the accessible parking had been, as CBC News reports. The airport had sold the spaces to Lexus as a way to generate revenue as part of a marketing campaign. Even worse, YYC hadn't replaced the accessible spaces yet, though Calgary Airport Authority spokesperson Jody Moseley told CBC News the airport was in the process of moving them when it started to draw attention. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The story ends well, however: The Calgary Airport Authority is converting the Lexus spaces back to accessible parking, and said in a statement of apology that the new accessible stalls meant to replace the original ones will also remain in place, so it's a net gain for disabled travelers. YYC also apologized to Lexus Canada, which it says "did not play a role in selecting, and was not aware of, the locations for the campaign." Lexus issued its own apology, saying it would "more carefully scrutinize the details of these types of marketing campaigns" in the future. Watch an Aventador, Viper and LFA play the songs of their people
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Our friends at Road & Track recently stopped by Cars and Coffee in Irvine, California, with the 2013 SRT Viper and found themselves a place to park between a Lamborghini Aventador and a Lexus LFA. Those machines might as well be the three musketeers of ludicrous exhaust notes, and rather than keep those 24 raging cylinders muffled, R&T set about conducting an orchestra of internal combustion. On seeing these three lined up, we were more than prepared to call the Viper victorious when it came to tickling our ear drums, but the latest domestic V10 sounds down right civilized in this company.
If we're picking favorites, we have to say the LFA takes the cake. There's something about the noise of a street-legal V10 that can wrap it's tachometer all the way to 9,000 rpm that turns our knees to quivering dollops of jelly. Check out the clip below for a listen. We shouldn't need to tell you to get frisky with the volume.
