Solid 1991 Range Rover County Short Wheel base. This is a fairly rare, original GREAT DIVIDE EDITION. It is correctly titled and badged as an original GD, #175. There were 409 of these made in 1990, and all were sold as 1991 models ( there is extensive history on the GDs available). There are reportedly less than 200 left according to the LR registry. This GD has been a California RRC all of its life, and as such, the aluminum panels, roof, doors and undercarriage are rust free and solid throughout, making it a perfect candidate for a mild restoration or drive it as it is.
This is a fairly rare, one-year-only model of the GD in the US. I had no intention of selling it, but a sudden job-relocation makes this improbable. Reluctantly, I am posting it for sale here to find it a good Rover home.
This GD comes fully-equipped with the County package ( all Power accessories work, including all four windows, both power seats, hard sunroof and central locking), with the original stock 3.9L V8 engine, heavy-duty suspension revised with OldMan 2" lift set up, EMU springs and struts, Updated front suspension, correct GD optional wheels, original early Land Rover all-metal sidesteps, factory tow package and roof bars. It has 213K original miles, and it runs well.
The automatic transmission shifts well into all forward and reverse gears. There is NO slippage or grinding of gears. No rearend, axle or bearing noises. The 4x4 system works well into both L and H gearing.
The 3.9L engine received a top-end overhaul about 2 yrs ago. It is tight and not a leaky mess like most. It is completely original, without any modifications from stock, except for an alternator shield and auxiliary PIAA light-back up system pod. The car has had a remanufactured BOSCH alternator replaced, along with a starter, as well as a Beck-Arnley water pump, ABS module and brake pump. Brakes are about 70%. This GD has stock-size radials with fair tread ( about 60% left), mounted on the factory GD alloy wheels. NO front-end vibrations, wobbling or pulling.
The body is in EXCELLENT condition, with absolutely NO rust whatsoever, anywhere in, under or around the car. The body is completely 100% RUST-FREE, as any clean, California car should always be. The original factory finish has held up remarkably well, with no flaking of the clearcoat anywhere, or fading to the roofline, hood or filler front panel. The original Alpine white still retains a beautiful shine despite the passing of years, evident that it has been regularly garaged. It would probably clean up even better with a good polishing.
The interior upholstery is in better than average condition, except the bottoms of both front seats which are in need of reupholstering ( I have an estimate to re-do them both for $300). There are NO cracks, splits, tears or separation of the seams in ay of the remaining seats, and they are all the perforated upholstery, unique to the GREAT DIVIDE models only. The rest of the upholstery, including the other seats and all door panels are in very good shape, clean and with no damage. The factory carpeting is clean, and I had it recently professionally shampooed, along with the trunk carpeting, which is also clean.
Overall, it is a very solid, original Range Rover, and a hard-to-find GD in its fairly original configuration. It has NEVER been in an accident, off-roaded, abused or wrecked. I have listed the car to sell, with a ridiculous $1 opening bid. That being said, I have advertised it in various other venues, and am open to a reasonable, FAIR offer.
To those that like to play games and bid $5 at the time, this is NOT going to be the car for you. To the serious, potential interested bidders, I welcome your bid and any questions you may have concerning the GD. I reserve the right to end this auction early at any time, should a serious offer present itself, so bid early and bid often~!
Upon end of the auction, I would like to receive payment within three business days. PLEASE ensure that your source of funds is in place and sorted out before placing a bid, in order to make timely payment.
If that means asking your significant other, checking with your boss that you are not getting transferred to Saudi Arabia or checking any significant tornado patterns landing in your home state, PLEASE do so prior to placing a bid and prior to the end of the auction.
Upon receipt of payment, I shall immediately mail you the CA title and bill of sale to the GREAT DIVIDE, via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation, unless otherwise noted. Method of payment can be a cashier's check, or money order(s). Personal, business, C.C advance or annuity account checks may be utilized, but must clear funding before the car is released. Additionally, a bank wire transfer may be sent to my local CHASE bank branch here in town; it allows for faster shipping arrangements and a timely closing of the transaction. Finally, PAYPAL may be used as an alternative if previously arranged between the buyer and seller (me), prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction.
I shall be glad to assist with transportation/ delivery of this Rover to any location, nationwide or overseas. I can make all arrangements for shipping from here to your location, at the most economical shipping rate available.
Feel free to EM or call me with questions at (650) 430-4660 ( no later than 9pm PST, please). Thank you for your interest~!

Jaguar Land Rover cutting production in face of falling demand
Sat, Feb 8 2020LONDON — Jaguar Land Rover will reduce or stop production on certain days at two of its British factories over the next few weeks as Britain's biggest carmaker pursues cost-cutting measures in response to falling demand. JLR posted a 2.3% drop in retail sales in the three months to the end of December and has targeted billions of pounds worth of savings to tackle falling diesel demand in Europe and a tough sales environment in China. The firm will halt production on selected days over a four-week period from late February at its Castle Bromwich factory in central England and stop production on some half or full days at its nearby Solihull facility until the end of March. "The external environment remains challenging for our industry and the company is taking decisive actions to achieve the necessary operational efficiencies to safeguard long-term success," the company said in a statement. "We have confirmed that Solihull and Castle Bromwich will make some minor changes to their production schedules to reflect fluctuating demand globally, whilst still meeting customer needs." The move is not connected to coronavirus, a spokeswoman said, which prompted Fiat Chrysler to warn on Thursday that a European plant could shut down within two to four weeks if Chinese parts suppliers cannot get back to work. Jaguar Land Rover to upgrade Castle Bromwich plant to build EVs
Fri, Jul 5 2019LONDON — Jaguar Land Rover is making a multi-million pound investment to build electric vehicles in Britain, in a major boost for the UK government and a sector hit by the slump in diesel sales and Brexit uncertainty. Britain's biggest car company, which built 30 percent of the UK's 1.5 million cars last year, will make a range of electrified vehicles at its Castle Bromwich plant in central England, beginning with its luxury saloon, the XJ. "The future of mobility is electric and, as a visionary British company, we are committed to making our next generation of zero-emission vehicles in the UK," Chief Executive Ralf Speth said on Friday. The announcement gives a boost to Britain's automotive sector hit this year by Honda and Ford's plans to close factories. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has highlighted the dangers of a no-deal Brexit and the need to maintain frictionless trade with the European Union, echoing warnings from the industry that just-in-time production could be hit by customs delays and additional bureaucracy. But it has signed a deal with workers at the Castle Bromwich factory to go from a five-day to a four-day working week with the same amount of hours which should allow the plant to operate more efficiently. Three of JLR's four European car plants are in Britain, giving it limited capacity elsewhere on the continent. The other, in Slovakia, only opened last year and is still being ramped up with other models allocated there. "We are making this investment because the ongoing Brexit uncertainty has left us with no choice, we had to act, for our employees and our business," JLR said. "We are committed to the UK as our home and will fight to stay here but we need the right deal." Both candidates to replace Prime Minister Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, have both said they are prepared to take Britain out of the EU on Oct. 31 without a deal, although it is not their preferred option. Brexiteers have argued that the EUÂ’s biggest economy Germany, which exports hundreds of thousands of cars to Britain ever year, would do its utmost to protect that trade Friday's announcement comes after a turbulent few months for Jaguar which announced around 4,500 job cuts earlier in January and posted a 3.66 billion pound ($4.5 billion) loss in 2018/19.
SVR plans to tune electrified Jaguar-Land Rover models, but not the I-Pace
Sun, May 24 2020Jaguar-Land Rover's SVR division has only put its name on high-horsepower gasoline-burning cars, like the XE Project 8 built in strictly limited numbers. It's open to the idea of tuning electrified models, whether they're electric or hybrid, but it confirmed it's not currently planning on making a spicier evolution of the I-Pace. "We will be developing electrified versions of our cars, be that fully electrified or plug-in hybrids," affirmed Michael van der Sande, the division's managing director, in an interview with Auto Express. But although the electric I-Pace (pictured) raced in a one-make race series held on the sidelines of Formula E events for two seasons, and SVR could credibly claim to inject track DNA into a street car, it stressed the I-Pace doesn't appear in its product plans for reasons that remain a little bit murky. Jaguar announced the end of the eTrophy series in May 2020, which might explain why it's reluctant to exploit racing's marketing power. "There are other various things we are working on which we can't talk about, but we're very interested in electrification. That's why we got involved in eTrophy," van der Sande clarified. "The technology transfer, the learning applies to that car and other cars but we're not planning an SVR I-Pace at the moment." His comments confirm we'll need to be patient to see what SVR's take on an electric or hybrid car looks like. One of the first electrified models to receive the go-fast treatment might be the next-generation XJ tentatively scheduled to make its debut before the end of 2020. It will be exclusively electric, though it won't look as radical as the I-Pace, so Jaguar will need to find a way to replace the hot-rodded XJR 575 model it positioned at the top of the last-generation model's line-up. It's not too far-fetched to speculate the next Range Rover also due out in the coming months will receive some degree of electrification, and it could spawn an SVR-tuned model, too. Related Video: Â Â
