Driving & Performance:
This timeless beauty not only looks the part, she plays it exceptionally well! She fires right up and whirs with
Swiss-watch precision. The motor is quiet, smooth, tic/knock/overheating free with tons of available power. That
said, every hour put on the motor the valve job continues to bed-in and open up – more and more powerful as time
goes on. Power is added here with the Magneflow exhaust system. Quiet while cruising, she is the perfect balance
of V8 harmony and throaty burble when you punch the accelerator. You wouldn’t think shes a 200K mi vehicle at
all as she drives with more esprit than fellows with ˝ the mileage. This is partly due to the rebuild on the
transmission and tcase. The transmission shift quality is positively F1 like with no slippage, shudder, or
hesitation at all. The Borg Warner transfer case does not bind or grind at all.
I have been commuting with her daily and she is relentlessly reliable in all conditions. Of course due to the
top-end overhaul including a personal touch – the 160 degree, triple bridge, single bypass thermostat. It’s
the same one I race with and really takes care of the motor under the most demanding conditions.
The Bilstein/Arnott spring conversion is the most EAS like feeling ride that is available. I was surprised by the
plush comfort and aggressive no-roll handling. Steering is crisp and tight with ZERO wandering, shimmies or
shakes. You can throw her pretty hard into a long looping freeway interchange and she just sticks – begging you
to punch it for the apex.
The brakes have been overhauled too. With EBC brand slotted and drilled rotors in all corners, the enemy of all
brakes (heat) is sent away leaving you with maximum stopping power. The organic sport pads are zero noise, minimal
dust, super biting pads. This set up has about a month on it and again, with every hour put on them, increases in
power. If you need to, you can stand this truck on its head!
I have also upgraded the alternator to 150A. This is in anticipation of you’re potential power needs. Whatever
you want to put in it – upgraded entertainment, food storage, lighting – your power needs are COVERED.
I LOVE the original Michelin XM+S tyres. They are the best looking and best performing for the Range Rover
Classic. They are ghost-like quiet under all rolling conditions and coming from Southern California parts trucks
– they have all been spared weather extremes and are in like new condition.
As I have said, this “cultured” Rover drives with more sense of purpose than her peer group and I’m confident
that within the first 5 minutes you’ll agree. That’s what a loved quality product over time is all about!
Aesthetics & Operation:
Take a good look at the provided magazine advert from 1995. This Black on Lightstone colour combination was
considered the flagship package back then. It is timeless, stately, and luxurious. No doubt she owes the
preservation of her interior to the factory privacy glass. Despite the tint, the cabin is still bright and the
original woodwork and paneling retain their original warmth. Fresh from her detail appointment and into her photo
shoot this past Friday afternoon, she is every ready to be presentable without compare!

2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vs big luxury off-roaders: How they compare on paper
Mon, May 7 2018During our first drive of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the all-new SUV's product manager was asked to identify competitors that might have been benchmarked in its development. The look on his face was about the same as if someone had asked him to recite King Lear in Klingon. As far as Andreas Hoeppel was concerned, the G 550 and AMG G 63 doesn't actually have a rival, or at least something the engineers and designers thought to compare it against. The G-Class is a G-Class, who cares what the other guys are doing? Well, in case you care, we figured we'd plug the new G-Class' specs into the old Autoblog Comparo Generator 3000 (TM) to see how the G 550 and AMG G 63 compare to the Range Rover and its mightiest SVAutobiography Dynamic model, plus the Lexus LX 570 and Bentley Bentayga V8. Frankly, Heir Hoeppel was onto something as each of these is wildly different. But, they do share some common elements: giant size and weight, ultra-lux interiors, and far more off-roading capability than other luxury SUVs offer and any of its owners are likely to ever utilize. Sad. So enjoy this trip down specification lane, and if you're still left hungry, you can always check out our Range Rover comparison or create your very own comparo. Off-Road Clearances and Capability All the fancy off-roading software and special cameras in the world won't do you a lick of good if your SUV is too close to the ground or has low-hanging body work that'll get easily ripped off. As such, check out each of these uber-SUV's ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and wading/fording depths. In this case, the Range Rover has an advantage due to its air suspension that can raise itself into an Off-Roading height that's a whopping 2 inches higher than the new G-Wagen. Sadly for itself, Lexus only provides figures for its air suspension when in normal height. It could match or surpass the Range Rover for all we know (but doubt it). As Land Rover does provide figures for the Range Rover's approach and departure angles in normal and Off-Road height, you can get an idea of just how much clearance the new G-Wagen has without any fancy (and expensive to fix) raising and lowering air suspension hardware. In fact, its departure angle is better than even the Range Rover's Off-Road height. Bentley doesn't provide any such information despite touting the Bentayga's surprising off-roading talents.
The 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years
Mon, Apr 22 2024Car maintenance has got to be one of the least fun things you can do with your free time, right behind going to the dentist and filing your taxes. However, depending on the brand you buy, your time spent at the shop could be much more than you bargained for. Consumer Reports’ new study on the most- and least-expensive-to-maintain car brands found that European car companies are most likely to break your wallet with costs nearly five times that of the automakers at the other end of the spectrum. Land Rover had the highest ten-year maintenance costs, at an average of $19,250. Porsche was second worst with $14,090 in costs. 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years: Land Rover: $19,250 Porsche: $14,090 Mercedes-Benz: $10,525 Audi: $9,890 BMW: $9,500 Volvo: $9,285 Infiniti: $8,500 Acura: $7,800 Mini: $7,625 Subaru: $7,200 The Euro brands at the “top” of this list arenÂ’t all that surprising. Land Rover has consistently landed as one of the most expensive vehicle brands to maintain for years now, though Porsche is generally viewed as being one of the more solid performance brands. That could suggest that some models donÂ’t always require more repairs, but the fixes they do need are significantly more expensive. Tesla, Buick, and Toyota were the three cheapest to maintain car brands, with 10-year maintenance costs of $4,035, $4,900, and $4,900, respectively. Consumer Reports noted that these numbers could be slightly skewed due to the fact that some automakers offer free maintenance for the first few years of ownership, and all companies cover their new vehicles for at least a few years after the purchase. Routine maintenance is a great way to avoid costly repairs over time, as itÂ’s much cheaper to catch a problem before it starts causing other issues. Check your oil, rotate your tires, and avoid driving like a wild person, and youÂ’ll likely fare much better than others, even if you own one of the scarier-to-maintain brands.
Jaguar Land Rover creates new Special Operations division for halo vehicles, bespoke commissions
Fri, 13 Jun 2014Jaguar Land Rover has announced that a new division of the British manufacturer will be dedicated to "bespoke commissions," as well as heritage products and apparel. Oh, and the new Special Operations division will also be behind JLR's halo cars from now on.
It's that last one that is the most tantalizing, as the last real halo product to see production from Jaguar was the XJ220. The Range Rover, meanwhile, has always had its own kind of halo reputation, although the Land Rover brand itself has never really gotten into the game with a dedicated model.
According to JLR, the new halo models will focus on ultra-high performance and luxury with a limited run of vehicles. The bespoke models, meanwhile, will give the wealthiest customers full sway over how vehicles are outfitted, with unique paints, trims and other accessories. The new SpecOps division will be run by John Edwards.
