One of One!

Introduction:

If you have been looking for an exceptionally clean, impossibly rare, fully serviced, fully loaded Land Rover Discovery; your truck has just shown up!  I could not believe it when I got my hands on her, but this vehicle is part of a rare class of trucks reportedly built at Land Rover’s only facility outside of England.  There are just a hand-full of these European optioned, North American Spec vehicles out there and having confirmed it personally with LRNA as well as a few other national data-bases, this truck is the ONLY CONISTON GREEN EURO NAS TRUCK IN NORTH AMERICA.  Take a good look folks, this example is more than just an awesome truck, it is a true piece of Land Rover history.

Service and Reliability:

Service and reliability come first with me always.  There isn’t anyone else out there like me offering restored vintage Land Rovers… I own them, collect them and love them too.  I race them professionally.  I spend countless man hours making sure they are as ready to go as possible and my work has been featured in Land Rover Owner international & Land Rover World magazines.  Here are the service highlights for this amazing truck, GENUINE parts ALWAYS FIT:

Styling and Options:

If you have been following me on eBay, then you know I am never really at a loss for where to begin my descriptions on a Land Rover vehicle.  This truck has stopped me DEAD in my tracks!  I’ve got to say, like most of you probably are, I am blown away first by the color. “Coniston Green” was a color reserved for the premier launch of the first Land Rover Discovery’s and never to be seen again. To have this celebrated factory color on a Discovery Series II is something truly to brag about.  The paint is EXCEPTIONALLY SMOOTH to the touch and as pictured, I have tried to show it in a variety of lighting compositions to showcase how rich of a color it is.  In blistering sun, it resembles a military green. As the lighting shifts, the cool blue hues transform the color to a deep forest green.  Sunset actually makes the color of the truck appear blue; and then black.  As I have said, I have personally confirmed it to be the only one here in the U.S.A. so if you have been looking for the unique Rover to have, this is it!

The Light-Stone leather is velvety smooth with all seating surfaces clean and soft and rich.  All power seats work, as do the split folding benches and rear jump seats.  The carpeting pile is still soft and the armrest velour on the door-cards are virtually wear free!  You always see a driver’s left elbow print on the driver’s door-card – not to be found here! The headliner is brand new and the GENUINE rubber floor mats in front, rear, and cargo are in EXCELLENT condition.

It smells like a brand-new car inside!

Want something to truly blow away any other Land Rover out there? How about having a European instrument cluster with all warning symbols as their European counterpart!  Got speed?  Well driving around a truck with a cluster in KM/H will make any short drive appear more spirited.  Let’s say you’re cruising around at 50mph but you look down and the needle is pointing at “80;” there is an instantaneous link with this truck having come from Europe.  Yes, all Land Rovers are European vehicles. This one is PURE! The digital odometer display is calibrated in miles, so no worry there when it comes time to register your vehicle.

The 18” Pro-Line style wheels are in excellent shape and all bumpers, bull-bars, lights, etc are as perfect as you would hope to find.

As this has been a California Car since 10K miles on, it is wonderfully rust, rot and corrosion free!

Performance and Operation:

She’s more than just looks!  With its low miles and full service package this vehicle is a BLAST to drive!  The engine has tons of power and launches off the line with total confidence. It does not overheat, tick, knock, rattle, stumble or hesitate at all.  Toggle the selectable sport mode and you charge onto the motorways without ever needing to see what’s coming behind you.  She is brilliantly quiet out in the open and does not shimmy or wander at all.  It is one of the few D2’s out there that still retains its rail-road like ride.  She EASLIY cruises at 100mph and can most certainly go beyond.

The Active Cornering Enhancement system works great. This innovation eliminates virtually all body roll from the vehicle. For example, I test all ACE vehicles on a nice long looping freeway interchange at high speed.  The body is PLANTED and the steering sticks as would a higher end sports-car.  She also passes my Mulholland Drive test…. A fabled twisty stretch of roadway here where one mistake means disaster. Pushed to its limits, this truck makes even a harrowing drive like that feel like a walk in the park.  Take an ACE vehicle off-road and you have total control and articulation over severe terrain where you would otherwise see vehicles being tossed from side to side.

The AC is great, and so is the heat.  This was always a non smoker truck so you don’t have to worry about anything flying out of the vents including stale air!  All auto lock doors, windows, sunroofs and power options work great.  The loadspace area is clean, the retractable cover is intact and in perfect working order, it is equipped with rear audio entertainment on both sides and all jump seat parcel shelves, handles and anchors are excellent.

Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me:

No one puts a Land Rover together better than me, PERIOD.  It’s the vehicle I drive, and the vehicle I RACE.  Nearly two decades of Rover ownership and service are poured into every Rover that I see into new hands.

All too common are sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service and nothing else.  Leaving maintenance work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following reception of the vehicle.  Beware of any vintage Rover that does not share the same service points as the ones I advertise with my trucks.  They are ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are ticking time bombs.  I am not a Land Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic.  I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and even RACE the green oval.  I understand ALL of your concerns and needs and do my best to ensure that you will be happy based on a simple, yet powerful concept:  DOES THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME HAPPY?  WOULD I PUT MY WIFE AND BABY IN IT? WOULD I LOVE TO HAVE IT?  The answer is always yes.  And that’s when I know they are ready.  I care.  I know you do, too.

Vehicles that I see off not only have domestic endpoints, they go to the farthest reaches of the planet.  They have gone to Europe, Asia, The South Pacific, Central America and currently, a client recently purchased a trail-ready 88 RRC and is en route to Tierra Del Fuego after I picked him up in the vehicle at LAX when he flew in to receive it!  The point here is, I believe in each and every vehicle that I usher in to new ownership.  Please see my recent vehicle sales and I’m sure you’ll be impressed.  I have A LOT of copy-cats out there.  If you aren’t buying one from me… its, well, NOT from me even though other sellers go so far as to “cut-n-paste” my listings!!!

While these vehicles are all totally looked after, they are not immune to future service needs and flaws.  They are used vehicles and normal flaws and wear should be expected as the vast majority of them are pushing 20+ years old.  Case in point for this vehicle in particular, the ONLY wear that I can find on it are on the outer lower driver’s seat bolster where there is a typical wear crack to the material and on the drivers and passenger door, where there is a minimal parking lot variety pencil line scratch and dent.  I invite you to ask ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS NOW!  There are no queries too obscure; your satisfaction is the goal here.  Additionally, eBay offers a 3rd party inspection service to verify ALL of your acquisition needs IN PERSON.  Purchase of the vehicle = SATISFACTION.  Once this auction is over, the winning bid and purchase imply that satisfaction has been achieved and will be understood as such.  There are no warranties offered here, but that said, there is always an unspoken “hand-shake” warranty meaning that should something fail within a reasonable amount of time – say a hose, a coilpack, a distributor, blower motors, an alternator, a switch, etc – I will be happy to send you what I have available at that time.

This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION so you are bidding to win!  Please make sure that you bid ONLY what you are prepared to pay.  This means, when the auction is over, and the winning bid is placed, this becomes THE SALE PRICE of the vehicle.  Under no circumstances does it open the door to negotiate or back out of your commitment.  The people bidding for this vehicle actually want it.  Do not spoil their chances at ownership by arm-chair bidding.  Yes, everyone joins eBay at some point, and there is no prejudice against lower transaction numbers here – HOWEVER – if I suspect and/or become aware of any insincerity on the part of said bidder, I reserve the right to cancel all bids from and block that insincere bidder from this auction.

Completion of this transaction is fairly straight forward.  Once the auction is over, I will be contacting the winner immediately and we can discuss the easiest way to finalize the transition.

Who is this truck for:

Good question! First, it’s for anyone looking for a quality Land Rover that is as distinctive as it is reliable. It can be a great daily driver, family car, weekender, guest vehicle and beyond. The deeper you look into this truck, I am certain that it will attract the attention of the collector and the Rover enthusiast crowd.  THIS IS THE ONLY ONE HERE!!!! If my instincts are correct, I have a feeling it will come down to a few fella’s who see this as the ultimate platform for an “Event Truck.”  Its rare. Its clean. Its everything to incite the envy of your Rover buddies.  And now, put a tasteful lift on it. Lights. An SD roof rack. A color matched slim-line winch bumper.  And all of a sudden you have something in your hands distinctive and capable the world over.  I imagine this truck battling through the deep greens and muddied tracks of the south… or climbing out of Hell’s revenge in Utah… against the red slick rock and clear blue sky.  This truck has SO MUCH potential its crazy.  However, what it always comes down to is this: What’s your vision and what will you do with this amazing one of a kind truck?  Happy Rovering!

Jeep driver nearly gets washed away by fast moving river

Wed, May 11 2016

Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. For example, you should never attempt to cross a fast-moving river in a bone stock Grand Cherokee no matter how shallow the river looks. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. A video posted recently to the Facebook group Jeep EXPERIENCE, shows an inexperienced jeep driver learning that lesson the hard way. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The video starts innocently enough, with a group of off-roaders watching one of their friends attempt to ford a shallow looking river. Things quickly go sideways however, when the driver of the silver Grand Cherokee just plunges right in and quickly gets in over his head. The river is moving faster than the driver thinks it is, the driver panics, makes some bad decisions, then the jeep is turned over and swept downstream. Eventually, the jeep is hauled out by a Land Rover after a long comedy of errors that involves one guy losing his trousers to the current and the Cherokee ingesting untold gallons of water. What went wrong here? Well, It's pretty obvious from the video that the Cherokee driver didn't have a clear idea of where he was going or about the condition of the riverbed. He chickened out halfway across the river, and in what appears to be a misguided attempt at turning back, he reverses, digs himself deeper in the riverbed, then turned broadside on into the current. When he changes his mind again and decides to just gun it for the opposite shore, he drives directly into a deep water hazard that would have been obvious to an experienced off-roader. At that point the jeep and the driver were doomed. Hopefully the driver learned a lesson here, and hopefully he didn't pollute that river too much with the jeep's fluids. Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular

Wed, Sep 3 2014

A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015. BMW X6 M said to lap the 'Ring in 8:20

Fri, Jul 17 2015

Bimmer Today reports that the German rag Auto Zeitung ran an Audi RS3 and a BMW X6 M around the Nurburgring together, and the hotted-up sports activity vehicle came in just five seconds behind the white-hot hatch. Driven by 'Ring regular Horst von Saurma, the RS3 ran its lap in 8 minutes, 15 seconds, and the X6 M ran an 8:20. If those times are accurate, that makes the X6 M the second fastest production SUV on the lap-time list according to Wikipedia: ahead of it is the 550-hp Range Rover Sport SVR, which ran a time of 8:14. That time puts BMW's 575-horsepower, 5,200-pound SUV four seconds ahead of the time registered by the last-gen, 555-hp X6 M, and well ahead of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S that Sport Auto clocked an 8:34 with. It would not, however, match the predictions that X6 M project manager Herbert Bayerl made for it in an interview with Sport Auto earlier this year. Bayerl said "The new BMW X6 M moves at the level of M3," speaking of the E92 BMW M3 that Sport Auto ran around the 'Ring in 8:05. It is, though, two seconds faster than the E46 M3, which lapped in 8:22. Bayerl called out the Range Rover Sport SVR directly, saying, "We have been traveling much faster in testing and have undercut the time of Range Rover several times," and "We don't need any special attachments to go faster." Auto Zeitung's report on the lap is only for subscribers so we'll have to wait for more official news. For the apples-to-apples comparison we'll be looking forward to Sport Auto's hot lap, then we'll know if the Range Rover has anything to fear. Related Video:
