This is being listed due to a non paying bidder. It was originally listed in early January but the buyer strung me along for a couple of months with promises and B.S. until i couldn't report him. His loss is your gain, I guess, I am pretty disgusted with the whole original sale, so if you don't intend to buy, then don't bid!!
For sale is my Land Rover Discovery II. It has been my daily driver for six years. I have added:
a Safari Guard roof rack with aluminum tread floor,
steering guard,
G4 headlight guards
rear turn signal guards,
heavy duty front tie rod with Disco I tie rod ends,
Great Basin front driveshaft (greasable),
Bottordorf winch bumper
Bottordorf heavy duty ladder
Rock Star rear door interior aluminum tread plate
The good
I have replaced the radiator and almost all the hoses in the last ten thousand miles
I have replaced all the pulleys in the front in the last two thousand miles
It was largely repainted last year and looks great. it does have one pretty large scratch in the paint on the front passenger door no dent.
All headlights, tail lights replaced at some point over the last six years and look good.
hood painted black in the center. it was supposed to be flat black like the decal but is more of a satin black.
Tires, brakes all ok. could use new rotors up front and the brakes are a bit spongy presumably due to not being well bled (there are two bleeders on each caliper)
starts right up.
No rust issues. surface rust on chassis and some other areas but no rust out that I am aware of.
The bad
Reason for sale: It is losing water slowly and number six cylinder is fouling out somewhat. The problem just started two weeks ago. The service engine light came on and it started running rough. i took it to autozone and they did a scan which showed an issue (vague) with number six cylinder. I replaced the spark plug and it ran well and the service light went off---for about a day. My best guess it the dreaded land rover coolant into the cylinder leak. This is why it is listed as starting so cheap. If you buy it and find out it is something simple dont tell my wife. I assume the engine has serious problems. It does start right up, runs and drives.
Headliner is falling down. Assume sunroof drain is stopped up. both sunroofs do work well. I was going to strip off cloth and paint the fiberglass like a lot of folks do.
various small quirks and issues related to being an old rover. electrics are an adventure but mostly working pretty well.
All the extra goodies are worth more than the starting price. I have a camping trailer that i have used the Land Rover to pull only a couple of times but we are hoping to use the camper a lot more and needed a newer vehicle. I also have a Series Land Rover project that is nearing completion, I dont need two projects. I will not ship this. you must pick it up. You might be able to drive it home if you watch the water and perhaps are prepared to change the spark plug in route but it would be at your own risk. email for more pics if desired.
ADDENDUM: A few things I forgot to mention in the Description.
THE GOOD: I replaced the horn buttons with a factory kit about three years ago. The Disco II horn buttons are known to disintegrate with use. They should be good for some time now. I also replaced the drivers door window lift assembly last year. They too tend to fail with age. Should not be a problem, works great. All windows go up and down without any problems.
I ADDED A DISCO I CDL SHIFTER!! The 2000 model had the shifter knob on the T-case but no shifter. Had a mechanic friend install a Disco I shifter. I also replace the shift decal on the console so it is the right one.
THE BAD: The plate that holds the electric window switches tends to sink in when the buttons are pushed. not sure what is the problem. Also, when CDL shifter was installed, the console was removed. Upon re installation, the switches for the rear windows were reversed, so the right one operates the left window and vice versa. Easy fix.
The tow ball that goes into the rear receiver hitch does not go with the sale. The receiver hitch does, of course.
Just for the record. I never off roaded the Disco, never had any time for any fun!
On Apr-02-13 at 13:57:35 PDT, seller added the following information:
Another addition. In case you were wondering, the original buyer who non paid never came and inspected the car. He did not back out due an issue with the car.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
A hybrid and electric Corvette, plus we drive the Ioniq 5 | Autoblog Podcast #728
Fri, May 6 2022In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. Zac drove the electric 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Greg drove the fire-breathing 2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo. The two dive deep into the relatively heavy news week by starting off with a discussion about the upcoming hybrid Corvette before chatting about what the electric Corvette might be like. They have a chat about the possibility of Porsche and Audi officially joining the Formula 1 field. Then, Greg and Zac get into some quick-hitting news to round out the segment by dissecting the updated Kia Soul (now without a turbo), the 30th Anniversary Edition Land Rover Defender and the new CEO at Aston Martin. Following the news and drive reviews, they rope in Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder to give them a quick download of what went down at the first drive for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Finally, they reach into the mailbag and answer some questions from someone who is less than pleased about infotainment systems in some new cars. And lastly, the gang hears back from someone they helped out in a prior Spend My Money segment on the podcast. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. Making 750 horsepower, 774 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 161 miles per hour, punching the accelerator will surely throw you back in your seat. In fact, its 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds matches that of the quickest Porsche 911 ever made, the Turbo S. The difference between this Taycan Turbo S and that 911 Turbo S, of course, is that the only reason youÂ’ll ever need to stop off at a gas station is to fill up on snacks. That and the fact the Taycan doesn't actually have a turbo anywhere in the car. We wouldnÂ’t be reaching for a bag of FlaminÂ’ Hot Cheetos, though, because this incredibly comfortable leather interior is immaculate, and weÂ’d hope to keep it that way. Enter here for a chance to win this prize worth $220,000. Win a Himalaya Land Rover Defender 110 EV and $20,000 - Enter Here The Land Rover Defender is an icon: an intense, luxurious off-roader that turns heads and can crawl up nearly anything. The problem? For the past 20+ years it hasn't been available in the United States and it's never been what youÂ’d call environmentally friendly. But this Defender is different. ItÂ’s vintage, restored by Himalaya and itÂ’s all-electric. At 275 horsepower, you wonÂ’t be thrown back in your seat, but the 406 lb-ft of torque helps make this an incredibly capable rock crawler.
