MORE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM THE SELLER
I have owned this car for 3 years and I absolutely love the look and drive of it. The reason we are selling it is because we are expecting our 3rd child in August and the back wont fit 3 car seats across. We purchased a new expedition and the dealership low-balled us on the trade-in offer so I decided I would just list it for a penny on ebay and let it go for whatever the highest bid is!
The body is totally straight. I think there is one slight dent next to the driver's side door handle (looks like a hail dent). I tried to take a picture but it wouldn't even show up. If there is any other dents then they are so superficial that I have never noticed. As far as the mechanical condition: This is a landrover and these notoriously have high maintenance costs. However, I have used this for three years as a daily driver and have had no major problems. I take it in to our family mechanic 3-4 times a year for minor upkeep type stuff (tune-up, new fuel, pump, new coolant reservoir are the recent stuff that I can think of). Again, nothing major though. Just keep in mind that this is a 2001 landrover with 159,xxx miles on it (will likely have slightly over 160k by the time this auction ends), so bid accordingly. There are no warranties expressed or implied on this auto so please bid accordingly. The mechanic that has worked on this was also the mechanic of the family friend that I purchased this car from (I believe they were the original or 2nd owners of the car) so you can feel free to call him directly and he can let you know the entire mechanical history of this car. His name is Allen and he owns Ross and Greenville automotive on Garland Road (right by White Rock lake). As a separate plug, if you are a Dallas purchaser then you should continue to use him as your mechanic. He is very reasonable and very honest (a rare find for mechanics).
Paint condition - looks great - no peeling or fading or major scratches that I know of at all. I regularly get it cleaned and waxed and it looks like a brand new car from the paint perspective. See the pics or schedule a time to come look at the car for yourself. She's a beauty!
Interior - Grey leather interior. The seats have wear on them, as expected from a 12 year old car but no rips or tears that I know of . No major stains that I know either. The leather housing on the four wheel drive and emergency brake are peeling (see pictures). The steering wheel also has some wear on it. There is a 6-disc CD changer under the passenger seat which I have never even used. The radio works great, the A/C works great (cool and heat).
If you would like to view and/or test drive this auto before bidding then feel free to send me an email and we can arrange a time place to come by. I want you to feel totally comfortable with your bid. AGAIN, it is a great car and I am sad to see it go. It has been very good to us BUT it is 12 years old and does have 160k miles on it so BID ACCORDINGLY.
All other "Negatives" that I can think of:
1) slightly cracked windshield (smaller than a dollar bill) around the registration/inspection stickers (see the pics). This can be repaired very cheaply by filling (should be done before winter or it sill spread). There is also a chip on the passenger side that should also be filled
2) the gas door wont shut all the way (should be easy to fix) - see pictures
3) the key that locks/unlocks the door and turns on/off the alarm is broken (last I checked this was $70 to replace but I never cared). This is needed to fully lock the driver side door. If you lock the door from the inside then it wont lock the driver door (since it is open/closed after you lock). So you will need to replace the key to fully lock the door. This was always garaged parked at work and at home so I never cared enough to replace it
4) lights on the dash - The lights on the dash (service engine, etc) are (and always have been) on. I don't even notice them but I don't want the purchaser to be alarmed about this. This was the main reason that the dealership cited for their low-ball offer. I have taken it to the land rover dealership multiple times to see if this could be remedied but they say this is very common for older land rovers and that nothing was actually wrong and it would be a waste of money to remedy it. It may be something that precludes you from bidding or causes you to be unhappy with the purchase so I just wanted to fully disclose.
5) knobs for the driver side seat came off at some point (though they all work)
6) the button for the horn came off at some point. It was replaced but looks slightly different that the other one (you would probably never know this but I wanted to fully disclose).
7) When the dealership removed the panel to see if they could remedy the "service engine light" condition they lost the screws so they put on some non factory screws which I think looks like crap but you would probably never notice if I didn't disclose it.
That's all I can think of. If I think of anything else then I will add it to this listing.
Bidding notes:
I reserve the right to remove a bid for any bidder that has a feedback score of less than 95% or has more than 2 negative feedback remarks. The reason for this is that I sold a car on eBay about 8 years ago with FULL disclosure and detailed pictures (as I did on this listing) and the winning bidder still tried to reduce the price when he came to pick up the car. I had to go through the trouble of getting that bidder removed from eBay and had to relist the car which was a huge waste of time (although I did get more money on the 2nd listing ;) Nonetheless, please only bid if you are a serious bidder. I have sold a half dozen cars on ebay over the last 12 years and have been extremely happy with the transaction in all cases except this one. If you do not feel comfortable with your bid then please contact me to arrange a time to come look and test/drive the car. I'm not going to accept any transactions outside of eBay so please don't try to offer anything. Whoever has the highest bid wins it, regardless of the price. The winning bidder MUST pay in all cash and must have this car picked up and paid for within 72 hours (3 days) of this auction ending. If not then I will relist the car and report the bidder to eBay promptly (I REALLY don't want to do this because again, it is a huge waste of time so please just pick up the car within 72 hours). If you are having the car shipped then please arrange for this shipping yourself and have the car paid for and picked up within 72 hours.
Happy bidding!

Is Land Rover developing an all-electric Tesla Model X rival?
Fri, Oct 31 2014Tesla will soon put its all-electric Model X crossover on sale, and if it's anywhere near as successful as the brand's four-door sedan the Model S, then it'll be a hell of an attention getter for mainstream automakers. Land Rover isn't waiting for proof of the Model X's success, though. According to reports, Land Rover could be preparing an all-electric Range Rover. Likely more crossover than full-size SUV, the new vehicle would probably be far more aerodynamic than current models. But the new EV would still take advantage of LR's high-tech aluminum structure, and could potentially be a close relative of the production Jaguar C-X17, according to Autocar. It seems unlikely that this new Land Rover EV will have the off-road chops of the brand's other models, but that doesn't mean that will be useless on the rough stuff. AC, citing Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern, claims that a height-adjustable air suspension will allow a low, aerodynamic ride height for high-speed travel while it can easily be transitioned to a higher level for off-road duty. As for range, AC believes (and we agree) that a successful effort would need to get as close as possible to the Model S' 265-mile EV range. Autocar is anticipating a price of around 90,000 pounds, equivalent to $144,000, which roughly matches the cost of a UK-market Model S. If the Range Rover EV comes stateside, we'd wager that prices will start under six figures, much like the US-market Tesla.
Jaguar reportedly prepping fully electric F-Pace
Thu, Feb 19 2015Tesla might want to take a look over its shoulder because there could be a cat catching its Model X in a few years. Jaguar reportedly has a fully electric vehicle under development that is possibly based on the upcoming F-Pace crossover, and it could be on sale in Europe as soon as 2018. Autocar cites anonymous "well-placed industry sources" as the foundation for the rumor and believes that Jag's future CUV would be the most likely recipient of the new powertrain. The battery electric technology would reportedly be shared with the brand's partners at Land Rover to keep costs down, and a range of around 300 miles would be the target. The F-Pace is reportedly already being prepped with a number of drivetrain options. JLR's latest 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and supercharged 3.0-liter V6 are likely choices. However, a hybrid version is rumored, as well. JLR has been taking baby steps towards electrification for quite some time. Perhaps the biggest example was the introduction of the Range Rover Hybrid, but Land Rover has also been rumored to have an EV version of its flagship SUV under development too. The company already tested several electric Defenders, as well. From Jaguar's camp, the automaker recently trademarked the EV-Type name in the US and Europe, and its C-X75 concept had a very interesting hybrid system. The reason for all of this EV development from the Brit brands is to adhere to constricting emissions rules around the world, according to Autocar. The EU is moving to real world testing possibly as soon as 2017, and US regulators continue to work towards cleaning up the cars here, too. Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen
Thu, Jul 23 2020Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen. The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
