General Info:
I am a late 20s landscape architect selling my Disco so I will have the cash needed to support myself for a few months while I grow my new business.  I have owned this car since February 2011 and absolutely love it.  It drives great, I feel very safe, it's stylish - classic yet hip, it holds the whole crew, reasonable insurance, the list goes on.  I really hate to let it go but I feel having the cash would be more useful than having wheels at this point.  But I can guarantee as soon as my business is off the ground, I will buy another '04 SE7 - it so great of a car I will always have one.

As stated above, I have owned this Disco since 2011.  At the time I was driving a 2010 Mercedes C300 manual.  While it was a lovely car, I needed more space and knew if I was going to get an SUV, the '04 seven seater Disco would be my only choice.  A Newport Beach resident, I scoured Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties in search of SE7's.  I found a mere 10-15 options in all of Southern California.  After driving to see each one of them in person, choosing this Disco to purchase was an easy decision.  Most were in poor condition and being sold by tiny seedy "dealerships" in the not so nice parts of town.  This one, however, was pristine and being sold by the Jeep dealership in San Diego a few miles from Pacific Beach.

Once I found this beautiful example of a Disco, I drove the Benz back to Newport, parked it, took a $200 cab ride to San Diego, and bought the vehicle.  For two and half years, I drove it to the office five days a week as well as around town and the occasional Palm Springs or LA road trip on the weekends.  During that period I had no problems at all - mechanical or cosmetic.  But then...here's the game changer...I started a furniture business on the side.  Once I began transporting furniture in the Disco, it's condition went from "excellent" to "great" to now just "good".  First, I cracked the windshield with a side table.  Then I made a hole in the back inside plastic with an armoire.  And just general wear and tear cracked one jumpseat back and detached another.

In addition to the three "whoops" my furniture moving caused, there are two more.  First, in late September, my neighbor hit the front bumper taking a chunk out of the top it in.  Then, three days later, I backed into one of those yellow poles that protects mechanical equipment.  That whoops cracked the bumper and shattered the plastic that covers the back brake and reverse lights.

Fortunately, the only reason I would give this car a mere "good" rating is because of the minor cosmetic damage I caused.  And this damage seems easily fixable.  I called and both bumpers as well as the windshield can be fixed at your home - you don't have to take the vehicle anywhere if you don't want to.  And the jump seats covers just snap back on.  A little time and a few bucks and you could easily take this Rover back to the "pristine" condition it was in six months ago.

Condition (Mechanical):
  • great*
  • starts every time - no problem at all
  • runs fantastic
  • shifts smooth
  • great gas mileage for an SUV driven around town
  • everything slides - windows, moonroofs, seats, etc.
  • cold AC
  • warm heat
  • California Emissions Compliant
  • SoCal car so no rust or corrosion
*I am a landscape architect, not an auto mechanic.  I do not know anything about accessing vehicle condition.  I do, however, know this car.  It has been my daily driver for almost three years.  I am familiar with the way it runs just as I am familiar with the way my own body runs.  To me, it runs just a smooth as the day I got it and I foresee no immediate problems.  But again, I am a not an auto mechanic.

Condition (Cosmetic):
  • good*
  • flawless burgundy paint
  • deep black bumpers and trim
  • clean interior
  • middle row seats are like new
  • front seats have some wear consistent with age
  • cracked rear and back bumpers
  • cracked windshield
  • all other glass perfect
  • cracked/detached rear jumpseat backs
  • jumpseat leather in pristine condition
  • hole in the back plastic
  • generally clean headliner - a few places that need a good cleaning but nothing big
  • non-smoker
  • no pets (love furry friends just don't have any)
*Despite the few "whoops" I had as described at length in the "general information" section, overall this car is in great condition.  But because of those few easily fixable cosmetic issues, I would give the car a "good" condition rating.

Features:
  • rear jump seats
  • rear convenience step
  • rear audio controls with headphone jacks
  • dual power and heated seats
  • dual moon roofs that slide smooth
  • AM/FM radio
  • cassette/tape player
  • CD changer (six disc)
  • 100% stock
  • no aftermarket modifications

History:
  • purchased in February 2011 with 76K miles in excellent condition
  • remained in excellent condition until June 2013
  • started furniture business and had a few cosmetic "whoops"
  • now considered "good" condition because of "whoops" as listed and described above
  • sold in October 2013 to YOU

Jaguar Land Rover CEO: Wrong Brexit deal will cost thousands of UK jobs

Tue, Sep 11 2018

BIRMINGHAM, England — The wrong Brexit deal could cost tens of thousands of jobs, the boss of Britain's biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover warned on Tuesday, saying he had no idea whether his plants would be able to operate after Britain leaves the European Union next year. Ralf Speth also said that the company would not be able to build cars if customs checks meant that the motorway to and from the southern English port of Dover, which is used to transport components, becomes a "car park" due to snarl-ups of people no longer able to move freely among EU countries. Speth made the warning at a conference in Birmingham, central England, speaking shortly before Prime Minister Theresa May, who is battling to have her so-called Chequers Brexit plan accepted by many in her Conservative Party as well as the EU ahead of Britain's departure from the bloc on March 29. "A thousand (jobs were) lost as a result of diesel policy, and those numbers will be counted in the tens of thousands if we do not get the right Brexit deal," warned Speth, referring to redundancies made earlier this year at the firm. "Currently I do not even know if any of our manufacturing facilities in the UK will be able to function on the 30th," he said. The boss of JLR, which built nearly a third of Britain's cars last year, also said long-standing issues around low productivity in Britain could be compounded by a Brexit agreement which made the country less competitive. "It is thousands of pounds cheaper to produce vehicles for instance in Eastern Europe than in Solihull, and what decisions will I be forced to make if Brexit means not merely that costs go up but that we cannot physically build cars on time and on budget in the UK?" he said.Reporting by Costas Pitas
