2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE 4.6L 4WD Please read carefully and check out the pictures! Up for sale is a really nice '03 Discovery II. With some work this could be a great ride at a discounted price. Current KBB Private Party value in Good Condition is $8,253 and Fair Condition is $7,503. This vehicle has been parked for approximately 18 months and needs major engine repair. Parts Replaced/Service Performed within the last two years on the road (documentation will be included for all): (1) Front Hub Assembly w/ ABS Sensor Right Rear Air Bags Rear Differential All Brake Pads and Slotted Rotors Alignment (1) Front Sway Bar End Linkage (4) Nitto Crosstek P235-65R18 Tires (Installed at 134,374 Miles- less than 3K wear) -New Valve Stems and Lifetime Wheel Balance and Tire Rotation at NTB included Fuel System Service Rear Blower Motor Radiator Hoses Idler Pulley and Drive Belt (2) New Remote Keys from Dealer Replaced Transmission, Drive Shaft, Rebuilt U-Joints at 121,387 (Primarily used parts- ASE Certified Shop) Relay Blower Motor The Bad That I Know About: Some relatively minor Clearcoat Blemishes on Hood and Roof as pictured Small Cracks in Driver's Seat as pictured And the Very Bad Thing I Know About: Vehicle was towed to Smith Company Motor Cars (LR Dealer) in Charleston, WV for diagnostic and engine teardown. Vehicle was overheating. Dealer invoice (included with purchase) states: "Performed coolant system test. Found that there was too much coolant system pressure. Performed block leak test. Found exhaust gas getting into coolant system. Performed tear down on engine to remove both cylinder heads. Found that 3 cyls slightly dropped. Found that cyl 7 had scoring on back of cyl wall due to coolant spraying side of piston. Boy cylinder heads are warped. They would need to be checked for internal cracks at machine shop and head to be machined and reworked." Dealer recommended replacement long block as best course of repair which was declined. All parts removed are in the cargo area as pictured. The heads and block have not been checked any further and may or may not be repairable. The vehicle was also partially diagnosed for an electronic gremlin which was unresolved due to the larger engine problem. Dealer requested more diagnosis time. The bill for this diagnosis and teardown was $535.30. Vehicle was towed home and has been parked as-is. WILL NEED MAJOR ENGINE OVERHAUL OR REPLACEMENT. Includes all original Owner's Manuals and Two Remote Keys. I will include all repair bills I have (listed above) from the previous owner who drove the vehicle for approximately two years. Total of bills is $6,657.69! Also included is a new rear air bladder in box and a replacement sway bar (pictured). The rear air ride is fully functional to the best of my knowledge, however you can see clearly in the pictures that it is 100% deflated. I have been unable to find a safe way to inflate as the vehicle sits without risking electronic component damage. Normal operation inflates the system upon startup which is, of course, impossible. I am not aware of any other problems, however I bought this vehicle as-is from the previous owner with the intention of repairing it. I have decided to let someone else take on this project! This will be a great truck when it is repaired. This vehicle will have to be towed or hauled from zip code 25702. I am also willing to meet a truck if you would like to make shipping arrangements. Please view all pictures carefully and feel free to contact me with any questions. This vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is, no refunds. Be prepared to turn a few wrenches. Thanks! |

Lexus leads J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study for 2021
Thu, Feb 18 2021J.D. Power's latest Vehicle Dependability Study is out, and, not surprisingly, Lexus sits at the top for the ninth time in the last 10 years. Right behind Lexus is Porsche, followed by Kia, which is the highest-ranked mass-market brand in the study. Genesis, last year's top-ranked brand (in its first year included in the results), fell from first to eighth, though the G80 sedan did earn an award in its midsize luxury segment. The Porsche 911 was called out as the Most Dependable Model by J.D. Power for the second time in the last three years. The vehicles being studied are from the 2018 model year, which means owners have had three years to get to know their cars and trucks. It's notable that this year's study shows a marked improvement in overall vehicle dependability as tracked by J.D. Power. The overall level of problems, scored by the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), declined by 10% compared to last year. "The study results validate what we have known for some time," said Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power. "Automakers are making increasingly dependable vehicles — but there are still some problem areas that need to be addressed and some warning signs on the horizon." Tesla makes its inaugural appearance on the Dependability Study, though its score of 176 PP100 isn't official. Tesla is the only automaker that has chosen not to grant J.D. Power permission to survey its owners in all 50 states. As we've pointed out in the past, the Vehicle Dependability Study includes eight major vehicle categories grouped by J.D. Power as follows: audio/communication/entertainment/navigation (ACEN); engine/transmission; exterior; interior; features/controls/displays (FCD); driving experience; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; and seats. All issues reported by owners are all tracked equally, which means a problematic phone pairing procedure dings an automaker's rating the same as a blown engine or transmission. And in fact, the ACEN category has more reported problems than any other, which means the majority of problems reported don't lead to a vehicle that leaves its owner stranded. The 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years
Mon, Apr 22 2024Car maintenance has got to be one of the least fun things you can do with your free time, right behind going to the dentist and filing your taxes. However, depending on the brand you buy, your time spent at the shop could be much more than you bargained for. Consumer Reports’ new study on the most- and least-expensive-to-maintain car brands found that European car companies are most likely to break your wallet with costs nearly five times that of the automakers at the other end of the spectrum. Land Rover had the highest ten-year maintenance costs, at an average of $19,250. Porsche was second worst with $14,090 in costs. 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years: Land Rover: $19,250 Porsche: $14,090 Mercedes-Benz: $10,525 Audi: $9,890 BMW: $9,500 Volvo: $9,285 Infiniti: $8,500 Acura: $7,800 Mini: $7,625 Subaru: $7,200 The Euro brands at the “top” of this list arenÂ’t all that surprising. Land Rover has consistently landed as one of the most expensive vehicle brands to maintain for years now, though Porsche is generally viewed as being one of the more solid performance brands. That could suggest that some models donÂ’t always require more repairs, but the fixes they do need are significantly more expensive. Tesla, Buick, and Toyota were the three cheapest to maintain car brands, with 10-year maintenance costs of $4,035, $4,900, and $4,900, respectively. Consumer Reports noted that these numbers could be slightly skewed due to the fact that some automakers offer free maintenance for the first few years of ownership, and all companies cover their new vehicles for at least a few years after the purchase. Routine maintenance is a great way to avoid costly repairs over time, as itÂ’s much cheaper to catch a problem before it starts causing other issues. Check your oil, rotate your tires, and avoid driving like a wild person, and youÂ’ll likely fare much better than others, even if you own one of the scarier-to-maintain brands.
Is Land Rover developing an all-electric Tesla Model X rival?
Fri, Oct 31 2014Tesla will soon put its all-electric Model X crossover on sale, and if it's anywhere near as successful as the brand's four-door sedan the Model S, then it'll be a hell of an attention getter for mainstream automakers. Land Rover isn't waiting for proof of the Model X's success, though. According to reports, Land Rover could be preparing an all-electric Range Rover. Likely more crossover than full-size SUV, the new vehicle would probably be far more aerodynamic than current models. But the new EV would still take advantage of LR's high-tech aluminum structure, and could potentially be a close relative of the production Jaguar C-X17, according to Autocar. It seems unlikely that this new Land Rover EV will have the off-road chops of the brand's other models, but that doesn't mean that will be useless on the rough stuff. AC, citing Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern, claims that a height-adjustable air suspension will allow a low, aerodynamic ride height for high-speed travel while it can easily be transitioned to a higher level for off-road duty. As for range, AC believes (and we agree) that a successful effort would need to get as close as possible to the Model S' 265-mile EV range. Autocar is anticipating a price of around 90,000 pounds, equivalent to $144,000, which roughly matches the cost of a UK-market Model S. If the Range Rover EV comes stateside, we'd wager that prices will start under six figures, much like the US-market Tesla.
