Up for auction is a 2001 Land Rover Discovery SE7. Vehicle is in great shape for the year and mileage, and has been spared no expense in past service history as shown in the pictures. Truck has had over $11,000 in service done recently, most importantly being the head gasket replaced that is prone to failure on many of these Discovery's. Truck runs and drives great, 4WD works great, transmission shifts smooth, doesn't overheat or anything, no noises. All electrics work, including both sunroofs, with exception to one of the windows which is intermittent, and the rear hatch lock sticks sometimes when operated by the power locks. This Land Rover has the factory LR Alarm system and hasn't been modified or an aftermarket installed. Truck is stock with exception of the radio, which is a premium aftermarket unit that works great. Has the factory CD changer under the passenger seat. Front bumper covers on all Disco 2's are cheap plastic, so this didn't have one when I got it - it has a modified steel bumper which I think looks good. Another common problem with these Land Rovers is the air suspension which fails over time... the previous owner had a professional coil spring conversion kit installed and it now handles even better off-road. Truck is originally from Georgia and was in Georgia until this year; still has a Georgia title. It needs a few things - Number one being a power steering pump seal. It leaks fluid and cost $30 for the seal kit... pump works fine and when fluid is in it, it works great - just needs a proper seal. The windshield has a crack in it but not all the way through, it could use a new rear lower tail light lens, and the brakes are supposedly nearing replacement from what I was told. The 'three amigos' light is on because of a brake pad sensor, it didn't affect the way it drives so I didn't bother with it. It also has an intermittent check engine light on from an EVAP code which I originally was told was an oxygen sensor, but again it runs fine and doesn't have any kind of misfire so I didn't bother with it. One of the Land Rover independent shops in Georgia told me it was a $50 EVAP part in the rear of the truck but didn't affect the way it runs. It could also use some adhesive on the headliner as that is starting to sag a little bit from the Georgia heat, and could definitely use a nice detailing and a few touch ups/ding removal, someone to buff the clear coat and really get a good compound on the old rover. Undercarriage is solid. Mechanically it's great... I just put on brand new OEM spark plugs right from the Land Rover dealer about two weeks ago when I got it out of storage just as a preventative maintenance item. Comes with original paperwork and tool kits. See attached pics for recent work - if any questions call me anytime at 315.464.0636. Truck is located in Rome, NY. $500 Deposit due within 24 hours of auction close, truck must be picked up or shipped out of here within 5 days of auction close unless you talk to me before hand.

Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists
Fri, 08 Aug 2014Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."
Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen
Thu, Jul 23 2020Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen. The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
Environmental group accuses BMW, JLR of link to deforestation in Paraguay
Wed, Sep 30 2020ASUNCION, Paraguay — Environmental group Earthsight said on Wednesday it has linked some of Europe's largest carmakers to the deforestation of the Chaco, a dry forest region of Paraguay home to jaguars and one of the last uncontacted indigenous groups in the world. The group said in a report that livestock companies have illegally logged lands of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode indigenous ethnic group, some of whose members live in voluntary isolation. The livestock skin is used in leather upholstery of luxury vehicles sold by high-end European auto brands including BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover, the group said. UK-based Earthsight said it had made covert visits to tanneries that bragged about supplying the raw material to the luxury car brands. "BMW is using hides sourced from two slaughterhouses processing cows from ranches responsible for illegal [logging] in the Ayoreo Totobiegosode's forests. Jaguar Land Rover didn't dispute sourcing from a Paraguayan tannery that processes hides from another slaughterhouse doing the same," the report said. Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement to Reuters it had found no evidence to verify Earthsight's claims. It said its European suppliers assured sustainability. "We continue our drive for further transparency and, in this case, the leather supplier in Europe verifies with each raw material supplier that no rural property that directly supplies it is involved in illegal deforestation," the automaker said. BMW did not respond to a request for comment on the Earthsight investigation. Paraguay exports about 50,000 tons of wet-blue leather (tanned, but not dried, dyed or finished) a year, and almost two-thirds of those shipments are bound for Europe, according to the report. Automakers say that leather is a byproduct of the far larger meat industry and high-end cars constitute a comparatively small market niche. But indigenous leaders say deforestation driven by growth in beef and leather exports is encroaching on their territory and destroying their way of life. "As deforestation advances with extensive cattle ranching, they are being imprisoned, they are disappearing," Taguide Picanerai, a spokesman for the Ayoreo community in the Alto Paraguay department, northwest of Asuncion, told Reuters. The region is home to some of the world's highest rates of deforestation, Earthsight said.  Green BMW Jaguar Land Rover
