2001 Discovery 2 SD7
Introduction:
If you’ve been looking for that perfectly serviced, low
family ownership, ultra clean Discovery II 7-Seater, your search is over! This is an AWESOME truck… it joins the best
of both world: All the options and refinement of the Disco 2’s – including rear air suspension! – but as it’s an
SD7, so it also boasts more overall reliability than its more equipment
burdened cousins. I think you’ll find
that with a truck like this flaunting over $7000 of recent retail servicing,
jumping on it should be a no brainer!
Service and Reliability:
As a Land Rover technician whose passion for the marquee
inspires my dedication, I always use the best genuine parts and expert skill
with their fitment. The following is a
list of all of the servicing done to ensure that your ownership experience is
as enjoyable as possible!
Complete 3 angle valve job and head gasket
service including: cooling system
fluid flush and renewal, head gasket renewal, head stretch bolt renewal, intake
resealed, valve covers resealed,
throttle body de-ice plate resealed, exhaust system resealed, engine oil
and filter renewed. $2250 value Brand New Genuine Factory Radiator, Thermostat,
Water Pump & Fan clutch fitted. $1995 value 30K mile interval service including: genuine spark plugs, New STI spark plug wires, New air

factory spec. $895 Value AC System Service - $350 value ABS System Service – Full system flush and brake

value Brand new genuine brake pads installed all
around. $450 value Brand new H/T tires installed all around. $900
value Brand new headliner installed. $400
value Brand new battery installed. $125
value 120K original miles, Clean California title in
hand, passed new stringent California Star-Smog certification with flying
colors. Excellent CARFAX history.
Styling and Options:
The SD7’s were all business – they featured all of the
legendary updates that made the Discovery II’s what they are, and yet – they
are designed to be as field ready as you would hope from a truck in the Land
Rover line-up.
As I’m sure you can see from the pictures, the Alpine White exterior is BLINDINGLY
gorgeous. The paint is still smooth to
the touch and will be forever. The
Alpine White colour was the ONLY Rover colour that was formulated to resist the
battering of harsh sun-bleached climates around the world. You will never have to worry about fade; as
you would with nearly any other colour.
The Bahama Beige seats
are in excellent condition; soft, clean and perfectly working. All power seats work as they should; as does
the rear split-folding bench, as well as both of the 3rd row jump seats and
folding head rests.
The factory running boards are near perfect, the front
bumper has no chunks missing, both front wheel brake vent scoops are still
intact and the rear folding cabin step tucks away as it should!
The rugs are still clean, plush and odor free. This was a non smoker vehicle and it shows
from the second you get into it. The Brand New headliner rounds out that
feeling of factory freshness and she even smells like a new car inside.
The best part about the cabin for me is the non-sunroof
interior. It protects both drivers and
passengers from blistering sun – where the retractable sunroof screens on other
models don’t quite do the job. You have
a roof that will never leak, you have a cabin with more head room, and when
summer heat is at its worst, the SD’s will ALWAYS stay much cooler inside.
Performance and Operation:
As you would think, this truck performs brilliantly. It does not overheat, tick, knock, stumble,
or hesitate at all. There are no warning
lights, and no stored codes. It is all
power, all go, all guts, from the second you turn the key. This truck was really combed over to be the
best it can be. All electrical windows,
seats, sunroofs, doors, lights work perfect.
The steering is crisp, the suspension is tight, and the drivetrain has
been fully serviced making it totally reliable. The next-gen HVAC AC and HEAT work great and
with its recent service, the AC is ear-lobe and knuckle freezing cold!!!!
With selectable SPORT mode, you can launch onto the
motorways with total confidence. There
are no shimmies, shakes, or wanderings of any kind. The ride – partly due to the rear EAS – is rail
road like in quality. No clunks or bumps
– just a smooth, quiet, reliable ride you can feel. Have another look at the highlighted shots
featuring standard ride height and max ride height: there is NO LEAK DOWN
whatsoever.
Let’s talk about Rear
Air Suspension. This feature is the
advanced version of the EAS that was originally developed by Land Rover In
1993. It is more robust and reliable
than older models and works perfectly.
For most people it is great for two reasons – A) Towing. It will automatically level your ride height
when pulling a trailer as opposed to a normal vehicle that collapses and does a
wheelie with your camper in tow. B) Enhanced comfort. As mentioned, you will absolutely notice a
difference when you hit speed bumps, pot holes, and crowned roads/dip
crossings. This is especially nice for
your 3rd row passengers!!!
Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me:
No one puts a Land Rover together better than me,
PERIOD. It’s the vehicle I drive, and
the vehicle I RACE. Nearly two decades of Rover ownership and
service are poured into every Rover that I see into new hands.
All too common are
sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service
and nothing else. Leaving maintenance
work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following
reception of the vehicle. Beware of
any vintage Rover that does not share the same service points as the ones I
advertise with my trucks. They are
ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are
ticking time bombs. I am not a Land
Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic.
I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and
even RACE the green oval. I understand
ALL of your concerns and needs and do my best to ensure that you will be happy
based on a simple, yet powerful concept:
DOES THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME HAPPY?
WOULD I PUT MY WIFE AND BABY IN IT? WOULD I LOVE TO HAVE IT? The answer is always yes. And that’s when I know they are ready. I care.
I know you do, too.
Vehicles that I see off not only have domestic endpoints,
they go to the farthest reaches of the planet.
They have gone to Europe, Asia, The South Pacific, Central America and
currently, a client recently purchased a trail-ready 88 RRC and is en route to
Tierra Del Fuego after I picked him up in the vehicle at LAX when he flew in to
receive it! The point here is, I believe
in each and every vehicle that I usher in to new ownership. Please see my recent vehicle sales and I’m
sure you’ll be impressed. I have A LOT
of copy-cats out there. If you aren’t buying
one from me… its, well, NOT from me even though other sellers go so far as to
“cut-n-paste” my listings!!!
While these vehicles are all totally looked after, they are
not immune to future service needs and flaws.
They are used vehicles and normal flaws and wear should be expected as
the vast majority of them are pushing 20+ years old. Case in point on this truck, the pictures
display a host of parking lot variety dings and bangs; but nothing in my
opinion that takes away from its overall quality and reliability. I invite you to ask ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS
NOW! There are no queries too obscure;
your satisfaction is the goal here.
Additionally, eBay offers a 3rd party inspection service to
verify ALL of your acquisition needs IN PERSON.
Purchase of the vehicle = SATISFACTION.
Once this auction is over, the winning bid and purchase imply that
satisfaction has been achieved and will be understood as such. There are no warranties offered here, but
that said, there is always an unspoken “hand-shake” warranty meaning that
should something fail within a reasonable amount of time – say a hose, a
coilpack, a distributor, blower motors, an alternator, a switch, etc – I will
be happy to send you what I have available at that time.
This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION so you are bidding to win! Please make sure that you bid ONLY what you
are prepared to pay. This means, when
the auction is over, and the winning bid is placed, this becomes THE SALE PRICE
of the vehicle. Under no circumstances
does it open the door to negotiate or back out of your commitment. The people bidding for this vehicle actually
want it. Do not spoil their chances at
ownership by arm-chair bidding. Yes,
everyone joins eBay at some point, and there is no prejudice against lower
transaction numbers here – HOWEVER – if I suspect and/or become aware of any
insincerity on the part of said bidder, I reserve the right to cancel all bids
from and block that insincere bidder from this auction.
Completion of this transaction is fairly straight
forward. Once the auction is over, I
will be contacting the winner immediately and we can discuss the easiest way to
finalize the transition.
Who is this truck for:
Great question!
First – anyone looking for a reliable & clean D2 7-Seater. Beyond that, it can be a great 1st
car, weekender, guest vehicle, daily driver, or build platform for an excellent
off-road expedition truck. She’s as
versatile as she is reliable. Whatever you decide to do with it, it is most
certainly up to the task. Snow season is
coming, back to school time is here – where will you find yourself in this
awesome D2? Best of luck and Happy
Rovering!!!

In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. It's all V8s all the time this week, starting with the Land Rover Defender V8 unveiling, Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance debut and pricing announcement on the Jeep Wrangler 392. Next, they move on to what they've been driving. Spoiler alert: That means more V8 talk. Zac has been driving the Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2-liter V8 and BMW M550i with its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Greg and Zac take a pause from the V8 theme by discussing their shared time in our long-term Acura TLX. From this, they segue into a "Spend My Money" feature about garage lifts to finish the show. Jaguar Land Rover has been expanding its production out of the UK and into overseas markets, and according to the latest word from Bloomberg, the British automaker is considering spending more than half a billion dollars to build a new assembly plant somewhere in Mexico. Since the Range Rover Sport and Evoque are two of the company's top sellers in the US, those would reportedly be the most likely to be manufactured at the Mexican plant, although Jaguars could follow as well. The automaker was previously said to be leaning towards a location in the Southern US, and while it could conceivably proceed with plans for both, it would be more likely to go with one or the other. State and local authorities below the Mason-Dixon line have been soliciting the business with various incentives, but lower labor costs South of the Border could prove more attractive to JLR and its parent company Tata. It wouldn't be the first, after all. Over the past month alone, General Motors committed to building the next Chevy Cruze in Mexico, Toyota did the same with the Corolla, Hyundai was reported to be considering a similar step, and Ford announced two new plants in the country amounting to a $2.5-billion investment. Luxury automakers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes have also been delving into Mexican production as well, blazing a path that JLR could potentially follow. The British automaker recently opened a plant in China and another in Brazil, while investing in additional facilities in the UK as well.

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd for a gasoline-powered installment. They lead off by diving into the Tesla layoff news from this week before leaving electrification behind for a bit to talk about not one, but two production V12 unveilings. This isn't a drill, folks; Aston Martin and Ferrari are both committed. After that, they touch on the U.S. government announcement that it would mandate automatic emergency braking systems starting in 2029. They finish up the news segment with a chat about Fisker. Poor, poor Fisker. From there, it's on to the road tests. The Autoblog team has been testing out some EVs and both Byron and Greg had some thoughts to share, plus we get a final update from Byron on the long-term Subaru WRX and some notes from both drivers about the updated Range Rover Evoque. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com.
