This THE color combination!!!! Oxford Blue on Lightstone (cream) interior.  There are two quintessential British color combos: British Racing Green on Tan and Navy Blue on Cream.  THIS is it.  And while you may find a couple of them for sale, it becomes much harder to find one that is so fully serviced and ready to go another 100k+++ of care free service.  If you have been looking for a beautiful, serviced, wonderful driving Discovery, wait no longer! This is the Rover you have been looking for and I'm incredibly proud to end your search with this WONDERFUL Disco!

Background:
Let me begin with a little background. This truck was shipped over here in May of 1998 as some of the of the later 1998 Discovery to come to the US. It was ordered in a BEAUTIFUL color and option package. To begin with, this is a highly sought after and rare LE model. The LE model and this specific truck were optioned and were graced with trim such as chrome bumpers, LE badging and the highly sought after Boost wheels, chrome door trim and stainless steel door handles. The LE was given a beautiful interior make over with Lightstone seats, leather wrapped gear selector, wood accents, full wood center console, leather covered cubby lid, tri-color door panels with Lightstone leather edged map pockets and chrome "Land Rover" embossed door sills. The LE was one of the top of the line trim packages!.

The Condition and Service:

This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for Rover service!

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:
This engine has LOW MILES (less than 9,000 a year), it was owned by a wonderful little family before I bought the truck from a client.  Only 129,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire truck shows the same care.  There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep in near brand new condition.  The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power!

-HEAD GASKETS
As part of the preventive service schedule, this truck received brand new OEM head gaskets and OEM headbolts.  It was installed by a master Rover tech with several decades of experience.  The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated.

-UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE GASKETS
While being serviced, the valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets, valve stem seals, upper intake gaskets and crank seal, all resealed among a few other minor seals.  NONE of these were leaking, but were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care.

-WATER PUMP
The truck received a brand new OEM water pump as part of the total servicing

-RADIATOR
The radiator was cleaned and rodded in order to keep maximum flow and keep this beauty nice and cool.  The temp needle NEVER moves past 7/8pm even with the AC on and in traffic.

-HOSES
New OEM hoses

-IGNITION
Brand new Champion coppers (the RIGHT plugs) and wires.

-EMERGENCY BRAKE
Recently adjusted and tight, only a couple notches on the handle holds the truck tight

-TRANSMISSION
The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great!

-DIFFS and DRIVESHAFTS
New gear oil in the diffs and lubricated u-joints

-SWIVEL BALLS
Fresh grease, serviced and shims

Lets move to the suspension and brakes:

-BRAKES
Brand new OEM brake pad sin the front and rear -loads of pad life!  The truck brakes great.  No ABS lights!

-SHOCKS
Great feeling OEM shocks.  They are soft on bumps and tight in corners.  The trucks handles wonderfully!

-STEERING
The steering is tight and so direct and has no excess play as you may find in MANY Discoveries.

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT
The paint is very nice!  It is a 8.5+/9 out of 10 easily.  There is only minor signs that this truck was ever outside.  There is a minor ding in the drivers side door and very minor scratches that are well below any expectation level for Discoveries or cars of this year.

-WHEELS
The wheels are in great shape with no major flaws or curbing.  The Boosts look fantastic on the truck!

-BRUSH GUARD
This truck was optioned with the OEM chrome brush guard and is in great shape!  It compliments the chrome bumpers wonderfully and shines bright!

-OEM SAFARI LIGHTS
Mounted on the brush guard are the VERY sought after FACTORY safari fog lights!  These have the glass guards and look awesome!

-GLASS
Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, the windshield is great shape!

-TRAILER HITCH
The Disco has a factory trailer hitch and is wired up and ready to tow.

-MUD FLAPS
Discovery are notorious for missing mudflaps.  Take a look next time you see one - the massive majority are missing at least one.  This can be from the rubber drying out or from off-roading.  This beautiful truck has all 4 and they are in great shape!

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS
The Lightstone seats are fantastic.  There is NO cracking, NO tears, NO seams coming apart.  They are incredibly supportive with what feels like zero foam wear.

-DOOR PANELS
One of the big things with Discos is the top of the drivers side door panel gets cracked...not this one!  All of the panels are free of dents or defects.

-HEADLINER
Another Disco trait is for the headliner to begin to sag as the OEM glue ages.  This truck's glue found a similar fate with just a hint of a sag, so rather than let it come down the truck just received a BRAND NEW OEM color headliner.  And without the OEM glue to go bad this will last a lifetime.

-POWER SEATS
All power seat functions work perfect!  Hard to find in a Discovery!

-SEAT HEATERS
Dual front seat heaters work!  A RARE find for a D1 Discovery!!

-POWER LOCKS
All doors lock and unlock with central locking function.  The keyless entry unlocks and locks all doors and arms the alarm.  Once and while the driver's side door requires the key to be uses and the lock sticks a little sometimes.  It is a pretty normal Discovery thing and does not affect door function - doors close nice!

-RADIO/CD CHANGER
Alpine aftermarket radio works great and has CD, USB and Radio functions.

-AC/HEAT
AC is ice cold and Heat is earth core hot!

-MIRRORS
Power mirrors work perfectly!

-WOOD
Very nice wood on the console, doors and dash! The finish is great and the stain is smooth

-STEERING WHEEL
The leather is very nice!

-MISCELLANEOUS
The OEM roof rack bars are in their bag under the seats and the original jack and ramp are are the hood

The Experience
Driving this Discovery is fantastic. It is Lexus quiet inside, pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce.  I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and beautiful Land Rover.  It's tax season, treat yourself to this truck, that you will not have to dump TONS of money into in this NO RESERVE AUCTION!  There is well over $5k in recent scheduled and preventive service alone in this truck so you are ready to go another 100k+++ of care free miles.  Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend 3 times as much to get it to this level of service!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all.  Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.

My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The truck is sold with no warranty.  You are buying a used car.  Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know.  I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service.  I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Rovers (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks.  That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them.  Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use.  That said, this truck is above average!  Please only bid if you intend to buy.  Sorry to have to give the boring speech.

Happy Rover-trails!!!!

Jaguar Land Rover said to favor Europe rather than US for new plant

Sat, Feb 21 2015

With its plants running at full tilt, Jaguar Land Rover is in desperate need of additional manufacturing capacity. That's led to reports that the Indian-owned British company was looking to join European, Japanese and Korean automakers in America's southern states, all while it opened new plants in the UK and China. The company even announced it would be building the Land Rover Discovery Sport in Brazil. Now, though, reports are suggesting that JLR is looking at Europe for a new facility, rather than the US, with Automotive News claiming the company's execs are eyeing the lower costs afforded by Austria and Turkey. The report cites the Birmingham Post (UK), the broadsheet that's closest to the company's headquarters. According to the original report, labor costs and wage disputes with unions are ruling out another factory in the UK, while those same disputes with labor outfits may also be souring the automaker on a US facility. "At this stage Europe seems more likely than America. The union pay dispute had a big effect," an unnamed source told the Post. "There is a feeling of alienation that has been left over from the way the pay talks were handled." JLR, meanwhile, offered a solid no comment to the Post, with a spokesperson saying, "No decision has been taken on future manufacturing locations. We will continue to evaluate opportunities to increase our manufacturing footprint in the future." Related Video:

It's a V8 party! Lexus IS 500, Cadillac Escalade and more | Autoblog Podcast #667

In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. It's all V8s all the time this week, starting with the Land Rover Defender V8 unveiling, Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance debut and pricing announcement on the Jeep Wrangler 392. Next, they move on to what they've been driving. Spoiler alert: That means more V8 talk. Zac has been driving the Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2-liter V8 and BMW M550i with its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Greg and Zac take a pause from the V8 theme by discussing their shared time in our long-term Acura TLX. From this, they segue into a "Spend My Money" feature about garage lifts to finish the show. Land Rover Defender V8 vs. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 | V8 4x4s square off on paper

Thu, Feb 25 2021

Land Rover pulled the sheet off its 2022 Defender on Wednesday, introducing another high-performance V8 to the off-road segment. This time, it's a 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 boasting 518 horsepower. It will be available in both the Defender 90 and 110 models. In the former, Land Rover says it can crack off a 0-60 run in just 4.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 149 mph. The long-wheelbase 110 will be a bit slower, but "slow" probably isn't the right adjective to use here at all.  But Land Rover isn't the only automaker offering a high-performance variant of its off-road SUV. While Jeep may have been sneered at for presenting the 2021 Wrangler Rubicon 392 on the heels of the 2021 Ford Bronco's introduction, it starts to make a lot more sense in this context. There's reportedly a high-output Bronco on the way, too, so call Jeep the dinosaur of the group all you want, but you can't put a price on being first. Well, you can, actually, but that's not the point.  Thankfully, both Land Rover and Jeep have provided enough specs for us to rough out a comparison chart. Since the Rubicon 392 is offered only in four-door guise, we're looking at the long-wheelbase Defender 110 as its direct competitor here. Have a look: There are a few caveats to mention off the top. For starters, we don't have an official curb weight for the V8-powered Defender yet, as Land Rover has not finalized its U.S. specs. We used the European figures (as provided by a spokesperson), which we expect to be accurate within about 50 pounds. The 0-60 time provided by Land Rover was for the Defender 90, which is smaller and somewhat lighter than the 110. When equipped with the inline-6, the Defender 110 is about a tenth of a second slower to 60 than the Defender 90, so we figure it should be roughly the same for the V8.  While the Defender has nearly 50 horsepower on the Wrangler, that advantage disappears thanks to the Land Rover V8's monster weight penalty, which will fall somewhere between 600 and 700 pounds depending on equipment. Yikes. On the flip side, however, the Land Rover has the edge in top speed, and it's not even close. Chalk that up to the tires, we suspect. We know for a fact that the Rubicon 392's all-terrains dictate its speed limiter; Jeep's own engineers told us as much. This could make for a (hypothetically) interesting drag race, as the Jeep's advantage off the line may evaporate once triple digits come into play.
