This is one for the Land Rover enthusiast.

I have owned this Rover since 2008 ,obviously started life as a US spec v8 auto. The condition was and still is very clean throughout and rust free.It does not  appear to have been off road or have had any damage repaired. Nice Discos can be bought around here for about $2500 all day long, I bought this one with a diesel conversion in mind.
In my mind proper Land Rovers should have diesels and 5 speeds so I set about making one for myself, I converted it in Dec .2009.At that time the Rover had 122,500 miles on it. The 300 Tdi  donor engine and R-380  g/box had 92,000 miles on it. The 300 tdi was overhauled at 88,000.(NOT SO MORE INFO LATER.)
Current mileage is 147,840.   So after 25,000 miles i can tell you you can expect to get 26-27 mpg on average which is great for a full size SUV. Parts are much more available now on this side of the pond as more and more people are now importing them in various L/Rs.

THE ONLY REASON ITS FOR SALE IS TO HELP FINANCE A LARGER BOAT, I built it for myself ,it was never intended for re-sale.

Conversion Details

Paint is original. Body in excellent condition with zero rust. Interior is very nice. Everything works. Tires are in good shape. Brakes are about 50% worn all around.

So here is the negative stuff:
• The AC is not connected electrically or charged. (All relays needed are supplied)
• Cruise control is not connected.
• Paint is generally very good, but clear coat on hood shows some wear and tear. But will polish up.
• This Rover has always used too much oil. And here is the reason why.
    • #1 cylinder is down on compression — at 345lbs.
    • #2 #3 #4 are all at 390lbs. which is correct.
    • There is some scoring on the #1 cylinder wall. It has excessive blow by and uses about a quart of oil every 250 miles.
    • In the past the engine was not overhauled properly. It needs a new liner fitted and a ring job to make it right. (new liner from Turner Engineering is $20)

Will be happy to assist shipper on this end.
If the motor was 100% I would expect this vehicle to bring in the low teens, Call with offers if it doesn't make the reserve.

I live in rural Virginia so emission testing is not an issue here. It may be in your area.

The title info. has not been changed to show the engine swap. That can be taken care prior to delivery if that is an issue for anyone.

It's a great truck and a nice daily driver.

Prices in the UK for 300TDIs and early Discos are on the rise. Primarily due to their simple design and ease of maintenance compared to the TD5's engines. People are buying them up so it is safe to say that this Rover will only increase in value over time.

Jaguar Land Rover puts the freeze on wounded soldier-athletes [w/video]

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

For athletes, the cold is often a powerful ally in treating injures, with RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) a popular means of treating muscle pulls, bruising and other common forms of discomfort. Did you know, though, that frosty temps are also popular tools for simply recovering from a rough training session?
Well, we're guessing Jaguar Land Rover knew that, as the British company was kind enough to loan out its climactic testing chamber to Jaco van Gass and Luke Darlington, a pair of veterans wounded in their service to Queen and Country. Van Gass, a former private in the Royal Army, and Darlington, a Royal Marine, are attempting to earn a spot on the British Armed Forces cycling team for the upcoming Invictus Games.
The Games, inspired by the Warrior Games held in the United States, are a sporting competition reserved for injured servicemen and women, either active duty or veterans, and is slated to take place from September 10 to 14 in London's former Olympic venues. Van Gass lost his left arm below the elbow after getting hit by a rocket-propelled grenade (he also suffered from a collapsed lung, punctured internal organs, severe shrapnel and blast wounds, a broken tibia and a fractured knee). Darlington, meanwhile, suffered a traumatic brain injury during action in Afghanistan, and he now suffers from weakness in his right side and cognitive issues.

Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car

Fri, Jan 6 2017

Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.

Could Jaguar become an EV-only brand?

Fri, Oct 12 2018

Just yesterday we wrote about the Heisenbergian uncertainty surrounding the future of the Jaguar F-Type. A new report in Autocar prompts us to consider extending that ambiguity to the entire Jaguar brand. The UK magazine reports the automaker's product planners have devised a ten-year plan to switch to a pure EV lineup of cars and crossovers. According to Autocar's sources this is a planning exercise and doesn't have the green light, but it's "fairly advanced" and has adherents inside the company. The first shot fired would be an all-electric XJ replacement. That sedan, a "no-holds-barred luxury car" to challenge the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, would provide emissions-free motoring before the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series come with their EV propositions. Around 2023, an EV crossover a touch larger than the full-sized Audi E-tron would replace both the XF and XE sedans. Two years later, a new mid-sized I-Pace would debut as both the F-Pace and E-Pace fade out. And two years after that, around 2027, the J-Pace luxury crossover would sigh its last ICE gasp. And what about the F-Type? The report says "with no replacement for F-Type in the works," an electric sports car "is also a possibility." There's no mention of the XK revival. Right now, Jaguar sells seven models - four sedans and three crossovers. As the Autocar article's written, come 2027 Jaguar would have an electric XJ sedan, a full-sized EV crossover, the I-Pace, and perhaps an electric sports car. That's a brave new world - one we're not sure Jaguar dealers could survive in. Problem is that Jaguar and its dealers are having plenty of problems now. Chinese-market volatility, the cloud around diesels, and Brexit uncertainty have contributed to a sales slump so dire that Jaguar's Castle Bromwich plant is going to a three-day week for the rest of the year. The sales flu has spread to Land Rover, too, the brand's Solihull plant closing for two weeks to realign dealer inventory. Considering all that, and with no easy relief in sight, the product planners are apparently debating whether a new, traditional three-model sedan range is worth the investment. The upside of going all-electric is said to be higher sales, with internal estimates supposing 300,000 units annually. Last year Jaguar sold 178,500 units. The marque could rake in larger profit margins on those sales, too, thanks to premium buyers being ready to shell out big ducats for EVs.
