Up for sale is my beloved 1997 Land Rover Discovery SD. It is in running condition, with a few dings and dents. No reserve!

The good:

Engine runs strong. Only a little bit of rust in the wheel wheels (Common for Rovers). Leather interior in good condition, no rips or tears. Heated seats work. Jump seats in back. It passed last year's NY State inspection. 4wd is operable. Starts, rides, runs well. JVC stereo with AUX input. Comes with an extra set of 4 snow tires in great shape.  It has a new-ish exhaust system. Cared for by Derrick Karabec at Beek's motors... noted for his expertise in British cars.  Unstoppable in snow, mud, or locusts.

The bad:

Missing left rear bumper corner (Pictured). Ignition key is sticky, takes a week to get used to it, then no problem. A bit of rust in wheel wells. Tires ok, but probably could use some new ones soon. It has been sitting for a few months, so battery is a little weak.  A few dings and dents, but nothing major whatsoever. (No creasing in metal)  Shift lever plastic is cracked (Pictured). Stereo has a buzzing noise, needs grounding.  Front right blinker plastic cracked.  ABS light goes on and off intermittently. ABS is fine, according to mechanic, but light will come on for no apparent reason.

This would make a good daily driver or a great parts car. Everything is in order as far as my knowledge. Clear title in hand.

Deposit via PayPal of $200 within 48 hours of auction end. Remaining balance via PayPal, cash, or money order within 7 days of auction close. I can hold car for up to 30 days if paid in full.  Shipping or pickup is the responsibility of the purchaser.

The car is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.

Spare wheel cover is NOT included with auction!

Good luck, and thanks for looking!

2016 Jaguar F-Type R at Monticello | AutoblogVR

Tue, Sep 27 2016

This week we indulged in a bit of fun. We took one of our favorite sports cars, the 2016 Jaguar F-Type to Monticello Motor Club north of New York. Senior Editor Greg Migliore selected the 550-horsepower R variant and pushed this Jag to the limit at one of North America's prettiest tracks. He reveled in the supercharged V8's power and sound as he embraced Monticello's curves and long straightaways. Meanwhile, Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski had a similar experience. Kind of. He lapped Monticello in the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR and then went off-roading at a challenging course nearby. It's the best of both worlds. He gets to soak in the blown V8 – but also gets to splatter a little mud. Each week, new episodes will launch on the AutoblogVR App. We'll preview them here on Autoblog, but for the full immersive experience, head over to the app, which you can download for free from the App store and Google Play. Be sure to try it with a cardboard viewer, too! Jaguar Land Rover Driving Off-Road Vehicles Videos VR Original Video virtual reality 360video

New Land Rover Defender aces Euro crash tests

Wed, Dec 9 2020

While the 2020 Land Rover Defender has not yet been crash-test by U.S. safety agencies such as NHTSA or IIHS, we do now have results for Europe's NCAP crash tests and accident-avoidance tests, where the Defender earned the top rating of five stars. The Defender model used for NCAP testing was the 110 variant with right-hand drive. The NCAP regimen includes several different crash tests: an offset front crash test into a moveable barrier with both the vehicle and the barrier traveling at 50 km/hr (31 mph), a front crash test into a full-width fixed barrier at 50 km/hr (31 mph), a side-impact crash test with a barrier traveling at 60 km/hr (37 mph) hitting the driver's door, and a side-impact test where the car strikes a pole at 32 km/hr (20 mph). The Defender's scores for the adult occupant and for a child occupant were both 85%. Additionally, the agency looks at the severity of injuries of the vehicle striking a pedestrian, taking data for a pedestrian's head hitting the hood, and their upper and lower leg being hit by the front of the vehicle. There is also testing of the vehicle's automatic emergency braking system's ability to avoiding hitting a pedestrian and a cyclist under various scenarios. The efficacy of active-safety systems for avoiding collisions with other vehicles is also tested. The Defender's score for protecting pedestrians and cyclists was 71%. The driver assists scored 79%. Results for several European-market cars were released together with those for the Defender, the most noteworthy of which was for the Honda E. The electric city car fared less well than the big Land Rover, garnering a score of four stars overall. In the same battery of test, the Honda E scored 76% for adult occupant protection, 82% for a child occupant, 62% for protecting pedestrians and cyclists, and 65% for its driver assists.
