Very Rare Nas Defender 110 #469/500 on 2040-cars
For sale is my NAS Defender 110, #469/500. Alpine white over gray cloth interior. The truck has approximately 7k miles on the odometer. A little history on this truck: #469 has been sold several times now by Copley Motorcars of Needham, MA. The first time they sold the truck was in approximately 2005. At that time it was a clean, lower mileage, stock NAS 110. That owner proceeded to heavily modify the truck. The 3.9 V8 and five speed transmission were removed. In its place was installed a brand new 4.6 V8 with four speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the truck was prepared for off-road use. A heavy-duty ARB bumper was installed with high-lift jack and mounts, as was a Warn 9000 winch, and limb risers. Southdown underbody protection was installed along with rock sliders, and a Mantec snorkel. Other off-road accessories include a Garmin satellite GPS system, CB radio, ARB air compressor (under the passenger seat), and six Hella Rallye lights with rear work light were also installed. Additional upgrades to the interior include full Badger Coachworks seat covers for all seating surfaces. I’m assuming the headliner was replaced as it is in excellent condition. All four doors were replaced and upgraded hinges were installed. The external roll cage and rack were removed and painted black. This owner put approximately 8k miles on the truck and traded it back in to Copley Motorcars. The next owner purchased it from Copley in 2007, parked it in front of his barn, and put 900 miles on it in six years. It was traded back in to Copley and I purchased it in August of this year. As one can imagine, a lot deteriorates when a car is left outside to sit for six years. The paint had turned to chalk, the bulkhead rotted, and the door sills are rough. Surprising, the frame is solid as is the rear cross-member. *HERE IS A LINK TO MANY MORE PICTURES, INCLUDING THE ROUGH SPOTS* What I’ve done: Since I purchased the car, I have thoroughly gone over the vehicle to make it a reliable driver. Initially, I went through the cooling system and replaced the radiator, fan clutch, water pump, and thermostat. The car was then serviced and fluids and filters were changed, and drive belts replaced. The ignition system was gone over and the plugs, cap, rotor, and coil were replaced. Additionally, the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve were replaced. As the car was an automatic conversion, I then performed a procedure to ensure the ECU knew that it now had an automatic installed. The oil cooler lines are new and the fuel level sending unit was replaced. All five tires were just replaced with BF Goodrich Mud Terrains. Additionally, the brakes needed to overhauled. The front pads, rotors, calipers, hoses, and lines were replaced. Additionally, the brake booster and master cylinder were replaced as well. At the rear, the wheel cylinders and shoes were replaced. The drums were in good condition. Cosmetically, the car is somewhat challenged. As I mentioned, the upper portion of the bulkhead it shot, and the door sills are rotted. The paint was thoroughly polished and has turned out quite nicely (very good shine, not faded or thin). The floors are good and the frame is solid and in good condition. The paint on the rear cross-member is bad but it is solid as well. The roll cage is rusted where it attaches to the body. I would recommend addressing this when the bulkhead is replaced. Also, some of the body caps are rusted where they run behind the roll cage. The interior is in very good condition. As previously stated, all seating services are covered by Badger Coachworks seat covers. Therefore, the seats are in good shape. The headliner does not have any sag. The dash is in good shape (no splits or cracks). The center console was replaced when the automatic was installed and is therefore in excellent condition. Accessories and gauges: Gauges function except for the fuel gauge. Though I've replaced the fuel level sending unit, the gauge, when the car is running, does not read accurately. However, when the key is turned to the #2 position, the gauge does read properly. Therefore, I've decided not to further pursue this problem. All interior and exterior lighting are functional. The GPS, winch, and ARB compressor are functional. The HVAC system is in good shape. The heat blows hot, air cold, and blower functions on all speeds. The heater control cable is broken. As such, one must manually open or close the valve at the top of the heater box under the hood. Overall, this truck represents a good opportunity to get into exclusive NAS 110 ownership without the six figure price tag. This truck is well sorted and can be used on and off the road reliably, as is. However, if one wanted to invest in the bulkhead, roll cage, door sills, and body cappings, they would have a very high quality truck that would be well worth the improvements, and then some. Your bid is a what you feel comfortable owning this truck for. It is not an opportunity to inspect it. Please do not contact me asking what I will end the auction for. Inspections are welcome prior to auction end. Please make sure all questions are answered satisfactorily prior to bidding. |

Could Jaguar become an EV-only brand?
Fri, Oct 12 2018Just yesterday we wrote about the Heisenbergian uncertainty surrounding the future of the Jaguar F-Type. A new report in Autocar prompts us to consider extending that ambiguity to the entire Jaguar brand. The UK magazine reports the automaker's product planners have devised a ten-year plan to switch to a pure EV lineup of cars and crossovers. According to Autocar's sources this is a planning exercise and doesn't have the green light, but it's "fairly advanced" and has adherents inside the company. The first shot fired would be an all-electric XJ replacement. That sedan, a "no-holds-barred luxury car" to challenge the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, would provide emissions-free motoring before the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series come with their EV propositions. Around 2023, an EV crossover a touch larger than the full-sized Audi E-tron would replace both the XF and XE sedans. Two years later, a new mid-sized I-Pace would debut as both the F-Pace and E-Pace fade out. And two years after that, around 2027, the J-Pace luxury crossover would sigh its last ICE gasp. And what about the F-Type? The report says "with no replacement for F-Type in the works," an electric sports car "is also a possibility." There's no mention of the XK revival. Right now, Jaguar sells seven models - four sedans and three crossovers. As the Autocar article's written, come 2027 Jaguar would have an electric XJ sedan, a full-sized EV crossover, the I-Pace, and perhaps an electric sports car. That's a brave new world - one we're not sure Jaguar dealers could survive in. Problem is that Jaguar and its dealers are having plenty of problems now. Chinese-market volatility, the cloud around diesels, and Brexit uncertainty have contributed to a sales slump so dire that Jaguar's Castle Bromwich plant is going to a three-day week for the rest of the year. The sales flu has spread to Land Rover, too, the brand's Solihull plant closing for two weeks to realign dealer inventory. Considering all that, and with no easy relief in sight, the product planners are apparently debating whether a new, traditional three-model sedan range is worth the investment. The upside of going all-electric is said to be higher sales, with internal estimates supposing 300,000 units annually. Last year Jaguar sold 178,500 units. The marque could rake in larger profit margins on those sales, too, thanks to premium buyers being ready to shell out big ducats for EVs.
Top 11 Lego Technic cars to buy on Amazon in 2024
Mon, Jan 22 2024Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. I recently got a birthday wish list from my 11-year-old nephew, and I couldn't help but smile when I saw “Lego Technic Cars” at the top. Lego isnÂ’t a phase, itÂ’s a lifestyle. Once a Lego fan, always a Lego fan. In fact, IÂ’d be willing to bet that many of you reading this right now have some kind of Lego vehicle in a box somewhere, or better yet, on display in your home. While theyÂ’re not necessarily cheap, getting into building Lego Technic vehicles doesnÂ’t have to bankrupt you, either, unless you go for the $400 Lamborghini right off the bat. Here are 11 of our favorite Lego Technic vehicles on Amazon, right now, ranging from an affordable $35 all the way up to $450. LEGO Technic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Ages 9+ (544 Pieces) - $39.99 (20% off) One of my first and favorite model cars growing up was a first-gen Ford Mustang GT350, so this GT500 for under $40 is right up my alley. At 544 pieces and made for ages 9 and up, the GT500 is a considerable step up from Grave Digger but a great starter to a Technic collection nonetheless. It isnÂ’t the most accurate-looking vehicle in this list, but the AR app and the fact that it can drive make it a worthwhile purchase. $39.99 at Amazon LEGO Technic Formula E Porsche 99X Electric Ages 9+ (422 Pieces) - $49.99 Not a Ford fan? Not a problem. This Formula E Porsche 99X is the same price and better looking than the GT500. Even though there are 122 fewer pieces in this Porsche set, it has a level of detail seen in much more expensive Technic sets including numerous decals and a pull back motor. $49.99 at Amazon LEGO Technic Jeep Wrangler Ages 9+ (665 Pieces) - $54.99 This is the set I ended up going with for my nephew, not because I think it is the coolest, but because for the price, I think you get the most bang for your buck. 665 pieces is over 50% more than the comparatively priced Porsche 99X and it also scratches the nostalgia itch for me: The first-ever model vehicle I built was a yellow Jeep Wrangler Sahara. This Wrangler Rubicon has definitely had some aftermarket mods like the front winch, which makes it one of the coolest Technic sets under $60. $54.99 at Amazon LEGO Technic Monster Jam Grave Digger Ages 7+ (212 Pieces) - $34.16 If ever there was a gateway Lego Technic, this Grave Digger is it.
New Audi design chief Massimo Frascella shaped cars for Jaguar Land Rover
Sat, Feb 17 2024At the Audi brand, style and design have long been a high priority; think the super sleek and sexy A7 sedan, the Bauhaus-inspired TT coupe, the single-frame grille that instantly identified the marque with its down-the-road graphics. So when the Bavarians install a new head of design, that’s also worth a look. Massimo Frascella is that person, a 52-year-old Italian designer who this summer will succeed Marc Lichte. Lichte ran Audi design since 2014 and will take up a new role within the Volkswagen Group. Frascella, a student at the Istituto d`Arte Applicata & Design in Turin, ignited his career at Stile Bertone, and his resume after that evolves impressively. He subsequently held positions at Ford Motor Company and Kia, and since 2011, Frascella has held senior positions at Jaguar Land Rover. He was responsible for the creation of several models: Discovery Vision Concept (2014), Discovery Sport (2014), Discovery (2016), Velar (2017), Evoque (2019) and Defender. In 2019 he became creative director of Land Rover and in 2020 design director. He was also instrumental in the development of the range of new electric Jaguars that are in the works. “Joining Audi is a very special moment for me,” Frascella said. “I am deeply honored to assume the role of chief creative officer and to guide such a talented team in shaping the future of the brand to new heights of innovation and distinction. I believe in the emotional power of design to inspire, connect, and drive change, and I am here to nurture and promote creativity as the beating heart of our brand.” Looking back a couple of decades, it was one of FrascellaÂ’s predecessors who helped to cement AudiÂ’s reputation in automobile design: Walter de Silva. De Silva was appointed head of Audi design in 2002. From 2007 to 2015, he supervised the design strategy for the entire Volkswagen group, including the TT, the Scirocco, the Passat and the Golf. Not a bad list of achievements, but in a interview several years ago, de Silva said that he considered the 2007 Audi A5 coupe the pinnacle of his automotive design art, citing its “sex appeal, the shape of the lights, the architecture.” Design/Style Audi Jaguar Land Rover Volkswagen Automotive History
