Rhd, 200 Tdi, Diesel, Auto, Sliders, Snorkel, 4wd, Lock Diff on 2040-cars
Ontario, California, United States
1984 Land Rover Defender (D90). Very rare, trail ready D90. This D90 was shipped directly from the UK and is right hand drive. I have owned this vehicle for 4 years and have done a lot of work both mechanically and cosmetically. It is registered in California (paid through March 2015) as a diesel and requires no smog check. This D90 is equipped with a 200 Tdi motor and an automatic transmission. It is very easy and fun to drive on the road and especially off-road. This thing is a beast off-road, especially if you are a Land Rover lover and want the best!
Mechanically, the 200 Tdi runs great and sounds great. The radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses have been replaced. The fuel pump has been replaced and injectors cleaned. The automatic transmission was just rebuilt and has only 2k miles. The steering pump and all steering linkage has been replaced with tubing and hind joints for better articulation. All the brake cylinders were rebuilt. All mechanical work was done by Inland Rovers in Riverside, CA.
The exterior and interior are in great condition. It was painted blue before I got it and I would give the paint job a 7 out of 10 due to some brush marks. The hood is covered in diamond plate and looks awesome! The tires are 32" off road tires and knobby like BFG MT, including the full size spare. For vehicle protection out on the trail, this D90 has sliders, front and rear diff covers, and skid plates. The roof lights work but could be brighter. It is equipped with a Safari snorkel. It was installed before I purchased it but never connected to the engine. The under carriage has some surface rust but it is solid. (We all know these D90s have always had issues with rust.) The rear cross member has been replaced. I will be happy to take any pictures for anyone of the under carriage for serious buyers. Also, I have a rack and winch bumper that I have been storing that came with it when I bought it. I never put them on but will give them to you if you want them. Let me know if you want pictures.
The interior has custom aftermarket bucket seats. I just recently stripped the entire inside and rhino lined the inside of the cab from the windows down in the back and the floor in the front. It looks great! Installed new Exmoor trim seatbelts and new window regulators. I just installed a rear door cover from MUD UK and looks awesome! I also have an additional seat for the back but did not install it for more storage in the back for gear. I will give the chair to you in case you want to install it.
I have more pictures on Flickr. Please text me and I will send you the link. A very rare right hand drive diesel Defender registered in California. It doesn't get any better than this out in the trail and in California. Text or call (909) 518-7057 for questions or photos. I will accept cash or cashier check. The buyer will be responsible for any shipping of the vehicle. |

Who picks car colors and materials? Designers like Hannah Custance
Tue, Dec 21 2021As automotive journalists, we're often asked "how did you get that job?" People usually didn't even know you could do such a thing. In this 7 Questions series, we're highlighting other jobs in the automotive industry that you might not have heard about before. What do they do, how'd they get to do it and other questions about their particular corner of the car world. Slowly but surely, the automotive landscape is becoming more colorful. Look beyond the unrelentingly conservative palette of white, black and gray most buyers opt for and you'll see the increased use of exterior trim types beyond the usual chrome. There's gloss black, of course, but also other metallic finishes like gold or copper. Those can be found inside, too, where there's also an increase in colorful leathers and trims, innovative fabrics, new wood types and finishes, and greater creativity in general. So where is this change coming from? The answer is designers like Hannah Custance, the color and materials design manager for Jaguar Land Rover. Her team's latest effort is also its magnum opus, the 2022 Range Rover. Although saddled with the expectations that comes with one of the automotive industry's classic nameplates, the all-new Range Rover is also a celebration of cutting edge manufacturing and fashion-forward materials selection. We sat down with Hannah at the L.A. Auto Show to find out more about color and materials designers, how she ended up in the industry, and advice she might have for young designers out there. It has been condensed for brevity. Autoblog: What does a color and materials design manager to do?Hannah Custance: I basically look after a team of designers who design finishes for every A surface on the car. So, that could be exterior finishes. It could be interior trim materials, soft materials, hard materials, chromes, metals, woods, ceramic – that's one of the new ones – anything you can kind of touch and see is color material design. Autoblog: How early in the design process does your team become involved.Hannah: Right at the very start. In fact, we look at materials that don't have a product assigned to them or a car assigned to them. So, it takes actually a very long time for us to get materials approved and fully validated. We have to find suppliers that are willing to work in automotive and our test standards are incredibly high, some of the highest in the industry.
Jaguar Land Rover signs manufacturing contract with Magna Steyr
Thu, Jul 2 2015Jaguar Land Rover is in the midst of implementing big plans. Those include a raft of new models, and a series of new manufacturing facilities to build them. It seems, however, that the former is outpacing the latter, as the British automaker has just announced a new manufacturing contract to have some of its vehicles built off-site. The latest deal is with Magna Steyr, the contract manufacturer based in Graz, Austria. That could see a Land Rover produced at the same facility that has handled the Mercedes G-Class since 1979, or a Jaguar at the same place that assembled the Aston Martin Rapide until 2012 when production was moved back to the UK. The big question at this point is just what JLR will choose to have Magna build on its behalf. The British automaker isn't saying at this point, but a spokesman confirmed to Autoblog that it will be a future product – not an existing line moved from its current production site to the contract manufacturer, as Mercedes recently did with the R-Class. A timeline wasn't announced at this early stage, either, but we're told it will take about 24 months before new Jaguars or Land Rovers start rolling out of the plant in Austria. Just what those new vehicles will be remains to be seen, but Jaguar Land Rover has a number of new products on their way. It is expected to reveal in the near future a new Defender, a replacement for the current LR4/Discovery, the new Evoque convertible, a new XJ flagship sedan, and possibly a new coupe and convertible to take the place of the old XK. We'll soon see the new Jaguar F-Pace, which may be followed by additional crossovers as well. The company also recently introduced the new XE, XF, and Discovery Sport models, though given the timeframes, they'll almost certainly be produced at JLR's existing facilities. It recently opened its first overseas plant in China, has another one under construction in Brazil, and is also said to be considering a plant in North America on either side of the US-Mexican border. Jaguar Land Rover Signs Contract Manufacturing Agreement With Magna Steyr Whitley, UK - Jaguar Land Rover has agreed a manufacturing partnership with Magna Steyr, an operating unit of Magna International Inc, to build some future vehicles in Graz, Austria.
