1997 Defender 90 in EXCELLENT condition

This Defender 90 has been stored in a climate controlled garage by myself and the previous owner.  It has been well cared for and shows minimal signs of age.  I have listed the upgrades that have been done below.  I have complete documentation and receipts for everything.  I also have all the manuals for the upgrades as well as the original 1997 Defender 90 sales brochure from the dealer.  The vehicle has 71,950 +/- miles on it.  It is driven on a weekend basis locally around town.  I have not driven it offroad and it has not been driven on the beach.  I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Upgrades:
-Warn 9.5Ti winch w/ 3/8”x100’ synthetic cable

There are a few blemishes on the vehicle and I will my best to describe them, as it's hard to take very specific pictures.  There 2 small dents on the hood the size of a nickel.  They are not noticeable unless you are looking for them.  Underneath the rear door sill needs some touch up and repair (It is not visible unless you get on the ground and look underneath the truck), and it's very minor.  There are a few small tears in the vinyl on bottom of the rear door.  The paint is an 8.5 out of 10 and in very good shape.  The oil pan seal drips 1 to 2 drops every 2-3 drives (If you're familiar with Land Rover then you know this is extremely common).  This vehicle has been inspected by Land Rover Southampton and they can verify the condition of the vehicle.  The vehicle is sold AS-IS because I'm a private seller and cannot offer a warranty. If you need any additional information or pictures please send me an e-mail at seanroe1@yahoo.com.

Thanks for looking and good luck!

Jaguar Land Rover releases a vintage-looking infotainment system for classics

Fri, Sep 7 2018

Jaguar and Land Rover have a new option for owners of its older vehicles: a touchscreen infotainment system. Much like the Porsche classic infotainment head unit released a few years ago, this one tries to blend in with its interior surroundings. Five distinct designs of these "Classic Infotainment Systems" are offered in an effort to have an option that fits well with the interior of any particular car offered by Jag or Land Rover over the past few decades. Chrome and black options are available for Jaguars, while brushed aluminum and black are the choices for Land Rovers. The infotainment system has navigation with 2D or 3D maps and Bluetooth audio. Sure, you don't need to stream Spotify in a 1970s Land Rover, but now you can. Jaguar says it'll offer much higher quality sound with a 4 x 45 watt output from the single DIN head unit, but you might need to upgrade those ancient speakers to actually take advantage of it. There's no mention of satellite radio like Porsche's unit offers, unfortunately. It is a radio though, so we get both AM and FM functionality. Jaguar says it's "compatible with negative earth vehicles" (newer vehicles use negative grounding systems) and retails for $1,796 before taxes in the U.S. You can buy and have it professionally fitted at an "authorized" Jaguar or Land Rover dealer if you'd like as well. It's easy to shake your fist at such a device for classic cars, but this head unit tried hard to be an elegant piece — we're still not sure about slotting it into an old E-Type though... Here are U.S. specific model fitments: Jaguar XJ40; XJS; XJ Series 3 Sedan Land Rover Defender 90, 110; Range Rover Classic (93-96); Discovery 1 (94-98); Freelander (97-04) Related Video: Featured Gallery Jaguar Land Rover Classic Infotainment System News Source: Jaguar Jaguar Land Rover Technology Infotainment

Automotive Grade Linux will be the backbone of your connected car

Fri, Jan 6 2017

Creating a backend for a secure, reliable, and expandable infotainment system is costly and time consuming. The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization, has set out to promote and advance the Linux operating system in commercial products. Automotive Grade Linux, or AGL, is a group within the Foundation that seeks to apply a Linux backend to a number of automotive applications in a variety of vehicles from various suppliers and manufacturers. AGL's goal is to create a common, unifying framework that allows developers and manufacturers to easily implement applications across platforms. Currently, the focus is on infotainment systems, but AGL has plans for instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and eventually active safety software. At CES, a display from Panasonic showed a completely digital and customizable dashboard that allows information and apps to be moved from the gauge cluster to the infotainment screen and back, all through the use of gesture and touch controls. Although the organization has been around for five years, it's really only been in the past three that the group has been working hand in hand with automakers and suppliers. The first two OEMs to participate, Toyota and Jaguar Land Rover, have since been joined by Mazda, Suzuki, Ford, and, as of this week, Daimler. The latter is important as until now most of AGL's partner's have been based in Japan or the US. Other partners include suppliers Denso, Renesas, Continental, Qualcomm, and Intel. AGL want's to supply roughly 80 percent of the backend, allowing partners to then finish and refine the Linux system for each individual application. Think of how the Android operating system is refined and customized for individual smartphones from Samsung, LG, and Motorola. While the final product looks different, developers can have an application that will work across all AGL systems. Because it is open source, anyone can use and develop for AGL. You can even go onto the group's website and download a copy right now. There is also a software development kit available that helps facilitate app creation on the platform. Vehicle development cycles take roughly five years, so there currently are no cars that run an AGL backbone available for consumers. AGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy says products should be hitting the market later this year, with even more coming in 2018. Right now, the industry is relatively fragmented when it comes to infotainment and related systems.

Land Rover, Toyota big winners in ALG top resale value awards

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

"Residual value is important for automakers and consumers because it's a complete indicator of the vehicle's future value." - Larry Dominique
Toyota and Land Rover took home the top brand honors in ALG's 2015 Residual Value Awards, which will be presented this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
