About me

 Introduction: The Alpina

The Vehicle

As you will see in the list below, lots of work has been done and even more money has been spend to get this Land Rover in a very good state and working order. It’s originally from Cambridge, UK, where it has been used by a family as their holiday vehicle. It was dry stored and therefore in a really good condition when we bought her as our new project.

First we started by stripping her down to bare aluminium. Then it got professionally sprayed in Alpine White, like the Defender NAS. When finished, all the parts where put back in place. As we tried to keep it as original as possible, most parts are the original parts but some of them where necessary to replace for new ones. When the body work was finished, our Land Rover mechanic started working on her. Everything got thoroughly checked, repaired or replaced to make sure the Alpina is completely ready for her new life. Underneath you will find a short list/summary.

The Engine

The 2.5 liter 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine, is one of the best and most reliable engines land rover ever build. They’re made to last forever, are easy to maintain and never let you down. The turbo gives the extra torque you need. A lot of work has been done to make it ready for the next 100k miles. So no maintenance to be expected in the near future. Please promise us to service Aplina on a regular basis, as she will last a lot longer on fresh oil and regular TLC (tender, love and care).

The Transmission

She has a 5 speed manual transmission. Both gearbox and transfer box work excellent. No weird noises, rattles or what so ever. Selecting gears goes smooth as it should. The Defender is permanently in 4 wheel drive. High/low gear and differential lock are present and work perfectly. The gear knob is below and next to the gearbox stick.

The Body

The aluminum body and paintwork are in a very good condition. The recent paintjob makes the vehicle look like new. Of course you can see here and there that it isn’t new, some scratches and age marks. Also on some spots the combination of steel on the inside and thin aluminum on the outside causes some small marks. But for a 26 year old vehicle, it is really beautiful! The bulkhead and foot wells are clean and rust free. The doors are totally straight and have rust free bottoms, which is pretty unique. The windows work as they should, the same goes for all the locks. Please take care of the door hinges, they tend to rust if not regularly looked after.

The Defender has a tow bar with electrics. Also an air intake snorkel is mounted if you need to go through deep water.

The Chassis

The complete chassis is in perfect condition. It is hard and strong as to expect from this Defender. It has been coated with a special impregnation substance that prevents rust and keeps it strong. This was done every two years by the previous owner. Worth mentioning is that the steering guard bar has a small dent, which hasn't effect on the function.

The chassis number or VIN is clearly visible. US vin decoders won't recognize this vin because it's a European vin.

The VIN is:

The Interior

The inside of the vehicle is clean, tidy and original. The 5 seats and 2 benches are a in very good and original condition. The radio is old and is ready to be thrown out of the window. It’s your decision to plug in a new radio to your needs. The whole infrastructure is there.

The tires

The Defender has got 4 good all terrain tires and a brand new spare. It’s to be advised that if you are going to use the truck only on normal roads, to put normal road tires on it. If going to be used primarily on dirt roads or off road, put off-roaders under it.

Service

It has just got a full service. All the oils and lubricants in the axles, gearbox, transfer box and so one have been replaced. The Defender’s power steering system is in excellent condition.

Customs, title and delivery

The vehicle passed all DOT, EPA and DMV test/inspections and is 100% USA legal. Furthermore, in contrast to a lot of Defenders for sale on eBay, this Defender is already in the USA, Maryland, and has cleared customs, meets all EPA & DOT regulations and is ready to be titled. All necessary paperwork will be included.

Where needed, we can assist with the titling as we have got the experience.

If preferred, for transportation you can make use of our reliable trucker. Send an email for quotes.

We require a deposit of $500, - within 24 hours after the end of auction.

Recent Feedback:

Hi guys...

wanted to write you a brief note to compliment you on the quality of the LRD110 I purchased from you off EBay.  I have now used the truck for 6 months with trouble-free service.  I have had a few repairs done by two separate LRD specialists (one near each of my houses) both of whom have heavily praised the truck's condition given its age.  I have purchased two vehicles off of EBay - and I'm sure you guys know that it can be risky.  Thanks for being so diligent in finding this clean original specimen!  The experience has been "just what I wanted".

Best regards,

j.d.

Land Rover Defender 110s, especially classic years like 1987, are rare finds.  To find one so well prepared and to work with a guy like Daniel van Oort who helped every step of the way and went way beyond our expectations even past delivery is AMAZING.    I had such a great experience with Daniel.  He kept me always informed of the process as our beautiful “Ms Red” made it through customs in Baltimore.  He coordinated everything perfectly.  As with all classic vehicles > 25 years old, there can always be subtle issues at first.  There were a few, like a small dent in the bumper which occurred somewhere in shipping to the US.  Daniel wasted no time negotiating these minor problems.  He just dropped a new bumper in the post at his cost and several other spare parts or small items after that.  Daniel knew I was a new LR owner and had much to learn.  He never hesitated to send me advice and support.   He quickly returned every email, was available from 1/2 way around the world when I was going through the tag & title process in Texas to make sure I had all the documentation.

I would completely recommend Daniel and his organization for future purchases and, in fact, I have been circulating his name among Land Rover clubs and social media that I participate in.  He’s a top notch seller and there’s nothing I would change about our experience.  My family and I have already created lots of great memories in our Land Rover Defender 110 and the candy-apple red color is a head turner!!  We always get lots of compliments from other Land Rover classic owners who really know their stuff.  They are also impressed with my experiences, the value and services I received from Daniel.

Thanks Daniel.  Many more memories to come and my wife now wants a Land Rover Defender of her own….so will be in touch soon.

UK car output falls 14% in March, may get worse with no-deal Brexit

Tue, Apr 30 2019

LONDON — British car output fell for the 10th month in a row in March, hit by a slowdown in key foreign markets, and the sector stands to suffer a lot more if the country leaves the European Union without a deal, an industry body said on Tuesday. Output tumbled by an annual 14.4 percent to 126,195 cars in March, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said. Exports, which account for nearly four out of every five cars made in Britain, were down by 13.4 percent. The SMMT said analysis it had commissioned predicted output would fall this year to 1.36 million units from 1.52 million in 2018, assuming London can secure a transition deal with the EU. If Britain has to rely instead on World Trade Organization rules for its trade with the bloc, which include import tariffs, output is forecast to fall by around 30 percent to 1.07 million units in 2021, returning to mid-1980s levels, the SMMT said. The forecasts were produced for SMMT by AutoAnalysis, a consultancy. Prime Minister Theresa May has secured a delay to the Brexit deadline until Oct. 31, giving her more time to try to break an impasse in parliament over the terms of Britain's departure from the EU. Foreign minister Jeremy Hunt traveled to Japan earlier this month to try to persuade the Japanese government and Toyota, which has a big presence in Britain, that London was determined to avoid a no-deal Brexit. "Just a few years ago, industry was on track to produce 2 million cars by 2020 — a target now impossible with Britain's reputation as stable and attractive business environment undermined," SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said. "All parties must find a compromise urgently so we can set about repairing the damage and diverting energy and investment to the technological challenges that will define the future of the global industry." We compare 2021 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport specifications to their ritzy Land Rover competiton

Tue, Jul 14 2020

The 2021 Bronco and Bronco Sport are the spearheads for Ford's new 4x4 sub-brand, with the former taking the fight directly to the Jeep Wrangler and the latter providing Ford with a more rugged alternative to the Escape. We've already looked at how the new Bronco and Bronco Sport compare to their mainstream competition, but we'd like to see how the Bronco stacks up to another hotly anticipated returning nameplate: the Land Rover Defender.  Not to leave its little sibling in the cold, I decided to browse Land Rover's lineup and see what might be a suitable counterpoint to the Bronco Sport. For better or worse, I found an almost-perfect fit in the Range Rover Evoque. So, how do these new American 4x4s compare to the Old Country's more-expensive alternatives? Let's dig in, starting with the big boys.  As you might expect from the Bronco's robust credentials, it holds its own here against the more-expensive Brit. The Defender's higher price point brings along a good bit of power advantage with both engines, but that's to be expected. The Defender also has that trick adjustable-height suspension that the Bronco lacks, giving it an edge in practicality, and it can also tow quite a bit more.  On the flip side, there are quite a few advantages to going with the Ford, including a greater number of choices in terms of powertrain. The available manual transmission on four-cylinder Broncos is a nice bonus, for instance, as is the option of getting either the base 2.3-liter or the optional 2.7-liter engine with either wheelbase. The Defender is a bit more restrictive in this regard offering only the inline-six on the short-wheelbase model. As an added bonus, the Bronco is a convertible. That may not necessarily be a "plus" for all shoppers, but it's certainly an added bit of versatility (and potential appeal) the Defender lacks. And of course, the Bronco can be had for as little as $30,000, whereas the Land Rover starts at $50,000. Now, on to the less-rugged siblings. The specs here are actually a little tighter in most respects, but the powertrain story is almost identical. The Evoque checks in where the Bronco Sport tops out, and the Range Rover gets an optional high-output variant of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four.

Jaguar Land Rover posts profitable quarter amidst big yearly losses

Mon, May 20 2019

Jaguar has posted its first profit in quite some time, as the financial quarter ending on March 31 brought in a net income of $151.6 million. However, that is the light in the end of the tunnel, as full year results through March showed a $4.58 billion loss (GBP3.6 billion). The losses are again attributable to declining sales in China, with a whiff of the still-lingering Brexit process. While JLR's annual U.S. sales were up 8.1 percent, and U.K. sales improved by 8.4%, overall sales came down 5.8% to 578,915 vehicles. For April, Chinese sales nearly halved as they dropped by 46 percent. Earlier this year, JLR's woes caused its owner Tata Motors to post the biggest ever quarterly loss in Indian corporate history, at nearly $4 billion. JLR's CEO Ralf Speth stated that the company is "reducing complexity" and transforming its business by cost savings and cash flow improvements, citing the fourth-quarter profits as an example of the ongoing turnaround. Speth said JLR has already managed to deliver $1.59 billion (GBP1.25 billion) of efficiencies and savings. JLR says its turnaround program, dubbed Charge, will drive it to at least $3.18 billion (GBP2.5 billion) of investment, working capital and profit improvements by March 2020, and that it currently has $4.84 billion (GBP3.8 billion) of cash. Speth continued that JLR will "go forward as a transformed company that's leaner and fitter," and that the sustained investment in new products and technologies will drive future demand. There has been earlier speculation of Tata Motors selling JLR to the PSA Group, but as Autocar reports, Tata's financial chief again refuted these rumors. JLR also announced today that its CFO of 11 years, Ken Gregor is stepping down after 22 years with the company, and that he will be succeeded by JLR's Chief Transformation Officer, Adrian Mardell.
