1985 Land Rover Defender 90 - Rhd, Diesel, Fully Imported, Present, Usa Titled on 2040-cars
Rockville, Minnesota, United States
Up for sale is a beautifully original unmolested 1985 Land Rover Defender 90 recently imported from the UK. It has cleared customs, is titled in Minnesota, and resides comfortably indoors in my heated shop.
It is the original factory 200 tdi diesel with a 5-speed manual. Starts well, runs as it should, and drives comfortably (albeit slowly!) down the road without a lot of drama, squeaks, or rattles. Easy to drive with power steering and brakes. This vehicle is ready to be driven and enjoyed, and has clearly been well taken care of throughout its life. Have some records which seem to support something close to odometer reading at 124,xxx - though it is more, as it doesn't seem to work since it has been imported. Interior is in very, very nice condition. Third rear jump seat is included with purchase and is in excellent shape as well. Exterior is in nice original unrestored condition. Very, very nice for a 1985. There is a little bit of corrosion in small spots, I have tried to show in the pictures as best I can. Tub is in nice shape. Body mounts appear good, suspension mounts seem solid, and floor seems to be solid as well. Unlike a lot of importers, we did not spray undercoating all over the underbody and frame to hide anything. Offered for sale by a licensed dealer in Rockville, MN (Virtucon, LLC) that specializes in vintage trucks. We are more than happy to assist with shipping in any way we can. Happy to answer any questions and to show the vehicle if you are nearby. Overall, this is a very nice, rare, original defender that is titled in the US and ready to enjoy. It is not a perfect, restored vehicle, but is in good shape for an original survivor. These things are getting tougher and tougher to import, and are being destroyed or rejected by customs more and more often. Even if you are able to locate and import one on your own, the costs of importing are usually well over $4,000 between taxes, shipping, and the like. We do require a deposit of $500 by PayPal. There is a $195 documentation fee attached to all sales, which is waived if you agree to a very small rockville4wd window sticker on the vehicle. Good luck and happy bidding! |

Is Jaguar's 3 Series-fighter the brand's last chance?
Wed, 16 Oct 2013The upcoming line of compact 3 Series-fighters from Jaguar, often referred to as the Jaguar XS, could consist of a sedan, wagon and possibly a coupe and GT model (think BMW 5 Series GT). The car's all-aluminum architecture also will provide the basis for two new sports utility vehicles. Just how important is the much-touted "baby Jag" project to parent company Jaguar Land Rover? A JLR executive reportedly says the brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS, codenamed X760, Autocar reports.
The brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS.
"If the X760 fails, it will probably be the end for the [Jaguar] brand," the executive says. But Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, claims Jaguar will "build the most advanced, most efficient, most refined car in that [compact luxury sedan] segment. Not almost as good as, but better than the best in the world."
Ferrari exec to lead Jaguar North America
Tue, 06 Aug 2013Jaguar has announced that Jeff Curry will be serving as the brand's new North American vice president, effective August 13. The move is a coup for Jag, which lured Curry away from his previous posting as VP of marketing for Ferrari North America, and is further evidence of just how strong Jaguar's comeback has gotten.
Curry has spent over 20 years in the auto industry, and has worked with Audi, SiriusXM and Land Rover, where he made his start in the industry. His primary responsibilities with Jaguar will cover marketing communications, customer relationship management, and product planning.
Jaguar Land Rover's North American president, Andy Goss, heaped praise on the brand's newest addition saying, "Jeff brings with him extensive automotive and luxury marketing experience, critical expertise in leading-edge technologies and a personal passion for automobiles."
The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
