Very Rare and unique 1978 Land Rover Series 3 109 inch wheel base 12 seater long wheel base truck in classic Hunter Green over Black. The working odometer shows 96,847 miles since new. I am the third owner of this Spec truck. Previous owner was meticulous. Truck starts on cue, drives quite well on the road or off. This is a salisbury rear axle 3/4 ton utility 4x4. Right hand drive, four speed, with hoop set and canvas top. This is a survivor, not a barn find or a restoration. It has seen regular use for most of its life and has received normal maintenance and repairs as needed. Body has almost no damage and painting was done by a body shop. Chassis is in good shape from front to rear, but will require an outrigger. Rear cross member is new. Chassis was prep and painted with rust stop. Wiring is complete and in working order. All brake, headlights, turn signals, wiper blades, etc..are working. Series 3 transmission, synchronized. New front and rear Rocky Mountain parabolic springs with old man emu shocks. 16 inch land rover series wheels on new 7.50-16/112L Extra Traction Deestone tires. Interior is in excellent shape and has nice black series seats (no rips, tears or stains) and cargo area seems to be in good shape for its age. Does have a small tear on the top dash close to the window. The canvas will need to be addressed. The sides are all fine but will need to have some of the minor holes patched up. This truck does not have the front locking hubs. Hi and low gear work as it should. All vents work as well. Steering is easy to move while driving around town. I added an high psi electric fuel pump. The 2.25 engine is great on gas and very simple to repair with just typical tools. There is a double pulley system on the crank, alternator and water pump. System currently has 2 belts driving the engine incase one snaps the engine will still continue running. I purchased it with every intention to keep it because i have a tdi 5 speed conversion i was going to complete but would prefer a 5 door and girlfriend hates it and she is not getting used to it. I have already spent an additional $1500 on minor repairs to make sure it is safe and road worthy. I am trying to describe this as best as i can. Keep in mind this is a 35 year old truck. So it is NOT perfect. I drive it and i cannot tell you the amount of thumbs up that i get from young and old alike. This truck gets looks and attention everywhere it goes. It looks great, run great, and is very unique. You don't usually find these trucks anymore in this great shape. This is my third Land Rover Series and im sure it wont be my last but i will miss this particular one. As new vehicles are depreciating, these gain it by every minute. Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen
Thu, Jul 23 2020Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen. The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.
Land Rover to build Discovery Sport at new Brazilian factory
Fri, Oct 31 2014Looking forward to getting your mitts on a new Land Rover Discovery Sport? Well you should, because it promises to be a markedly better product than the Freelander/LR2 it replaces. Just don't assume it will necessarily be built in the UK, as just about every Land Rover has in the company's 66-year history. The new Discovery Sport (pictured above in Sao Paulo) will, of course, be built in the UK, at the Halewood plant where the Evoque is made and which has in the past handled the Freelander, the Jaguar X-Type and a variety of Fords. But it will also be assembled for local consumption at JLR's new factory in Changsu, China. And, according to the press release down below, it will also be made for the Latin American market at the new factory being built in Brazil. The new plant is being built in Itatiaia on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and will come online in 2016. Once it gets up to speed by the end of 2020, it will have the capacity to build 24,000 vehicles each year, ratcheting its workforce up from 400 when it opens to nearly 1,000 when all's said and done. The Discovery Sport will be one of the products made there for the local market, but it surely won't be the only one. As in China, we expect the Evoque will be built there as well, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the new Jaguar XE join it in the near future, either. Don't expect the Brazilian-made vehicles to be sold in the US, though: those will likely still be imported from the UK... at least, that is, until the facility said to be under consideration for the southern United States opens its doors. The new factory, which will see a total investment of R$750m (GBP240m) by the end of 2020, will supplement UK production and have the capacity to build 24,000 vehicles annually for the Brazilian market.
