VW pulls Lamborghini and Bentley from the Paris Motor Show

It's been slightly more than a year since the news that Volkswagen had intentionally cheated on diesel emissions testing broke. Since then, the company's reputation and image have suffered and it has struggled to regain its footing and composure. The automaker is shelling out billions in fines, so cost cutting is inevitable. Today, Reuters reports that Volkswagen subsidiaries Lamborghini and Bentley won't bring their elaborate displays to the Paris Motor Show next week. Auto shows can cost automakers millions of dollars, especially for supercar and luxury car brands that constantly try to compete and one-up with each other. Much of the money and fanfare goes to catering the media, and if an automaker has nothing new to reveal it can be difficult to justify the expense. The company told Reuters that it plans to attend smaller events that focus more on potential buyers. The Volkswagen group as a whole has shifted it's focus, both when it comes to products and auto shows like Paris. Next week, the automaker will be focusing on electric vehicles and electromobility. The company plans to reveal a new EV with 373 miles of range, eclipsing both the Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt. Volkswagen has plans for 30 new electric vehicles by 2025. Lamborghini and Bentley aren't the only major automakers skipping Paris. Ford, Volvo, and Aston Martin have all decided to save money and focus their efforts elsewhere. Related Video:

Deadmau5 orders Nyanborghini Purracan to replace departed Purrari

EDM DJ and producer Deadmau5 is unusual among car collectors for a few reasons, like the fact that the Canadian native didn't get his driver's license until he was 32 - about two years ago and well into fame - so his first car was a Porsche 911 Carrera RS. Elsewise, his garage contains a BAC Mono, a McLaren P1 and 650S, a Range Rover, a "custom Jeep Rubicon with an SRT engine and big suspension," and a daily driver Bentley Continental GT Supersports. There is also that controversial and now-unwrapped Ferrari 458, the Nyancat Purrari with custom badging that so incensed Ferrari they sent him a cease-and-desist letter. After the kerfuffle, Nissan teased Deadmau5 with the idea of a Nyancat GT-R, but the musician has tweeted the the replacement is going to be a Lamborghini Huracan called, naturally, the Nyanborghini Purracan. Deadmau5 tweeted the delivery date is in May, so all you other Toronto-ites, you have until summer to prepare yourselves for this guy patrolling the streets. Oh, Canada... Dax Shephard, Lamborghini Super Trofeo racer?

Dax Shepard is no Paul Newman, nor even Patrick Dempsey, but he has a pretty cool gig mixed with plenty of acting and racing. While you might know him from Hollywood comedies like Employee of the Month and Hit & Run, the Michigan native now seems to be dabbling in road racing after competing in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America, and to celebrate, Lamborghini has issued a new short video introducing Shepard and kicking off its new pro-am racing series.
Like many kids of the '70s and early '80s, Shepard's love of cars can be traced back to a Lamborghini Countach, and, fittingly, his first time road racing in a car happened to be in a Lamborghini - an experience he comically suggests would be like another sort of "first time" with Selma Hayek. In addition a few chuckles, the video posted below also gives us some of our first racing footage of the Super Trofeo North America's opening weekend at Lime Rock in early July, in which Shepard grabbed a third-place finish.
