Lamborghini Veneno leaks ahead of Geneva

Hey, Lamborghini execs... why the long face? Is it because your double-top-secret Veneno hypercar has leaked ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut?
This unidentified magazine scan has dribbled its way onto the internet, and the single image shows a radically designed coupe - even by Lamborghini standards - powered by the 6.5-liter V12 from the Aventador tuned to produce 740 horsepower, routed through the company's seven-speed single-clutch gearbox. The bodywork features exposed carbon fiber canards, asymmetric wheel wells, a massive rear wing, and all manner of vents and scoops, all combining for an outlandishly brutal look.
What does "Veneno" mean, exactly? It translates to "poison" in Spanish, but if the company's history is anything to go by, it must also be the name of a noteworthy bull in the history of tauromachia. What the car means to Lamborghini, however, is a celebration of the one-time tractor manufacturer's 50th anniversary.

Twin-turbo Lamborghini ignites at 250 mph

Yesterday we covered a crash at the Unlimited 500+ drag race in Moscow, featuring a Nissan GT-R, but today brings better news: a Lamborghini Gallardo making 2,005 horsepower successfully went 250 miles per hour on the one-mile strip in 23.9 seconds without crashing. That's the good part. The bad part is the single-serving supercar burst into flames immediately after it crossed the finish line. Fortunately the driver was able to quickly bring the Lamborghini to a stop and get out of the car, but we have a feeling it will need some engine work before it sees any more action. That and perhaps a new paint job.
Underground Racing tuned the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 to such an astronomical power output with the help of what sounds like twin-turbochargers (which is typical of UR builds). But despite the very impressive mile time, it's still hard not to feel sorry for the poor engine, which just couldn't take the pressure. Instead of the usual format of discussing a model for about ten minutes and then taking it out for a test drive, this week Leno gives viewers on a tour of over a dozen projects concurrently happening in his stable. The breadth of the vehicles shown and the things being done to them run the entire span of the automotive hobby. At the same time, Jay's shop is working on just a simple restoration of his 1969 Lamborghini Espada (pictured), and at the other side of the building, the team is rebuilding a wood-bodied 1914 Detroit Electric from scratch. He eventually plans to slot a more modern electric drivetrain into it. If bikes are more your interest, there's a freshly completed Brough Superior just waiting for a ride, and if American models are your thing, a Ford Bronco is getting a Coyote V8 installed into it. You have some very specific tastes if you can't watch this clip and start wishing at least one of these vehicles could be in your own garage.
