Watch the Lamborghini Centenario attack Nardo

Lamborghini celebrated the centennial its founder's birth with the aptly named Centenario at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a jaw-dropper, but now the party really begins as Lambo released video of the limited-run supercar on the track at the Nardo Technical Center in Italy. Lamborghini will build 40 copies of the Centenario evenly split between coupes and roaders. It's powered by a 759-horsepower naturally aspirated V12 – the most powerful Lambo has ever made. It uses carbon-fiber for the monocoque and body and is loaded with sophisticated aerodynamic treatments. In short, it's a more extreme version of the Aventador on which it's based. The Centenario hits 62 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds en route to a top speed of 217.48 miles per hour. All 40 Centenarios are sold out, so watching this video of is likely as close as you'll get to tasting Lamborghini's salute to Ferruccio. One of my defining moments as a budding car enthusiast came the first time I got to see a Lamborghini up close. I was out in Los Angeles visiting a relative with my mother and sister, and I took the change of scenery as an opportunity to look for more exotic cars than my middle-class Midwestern upbringing would usually encounter. We were on a walk, when off in the distance I saw - and heard - something extraordinary: An early '80s Lamborghini Countach, black with those bronze five-hole wheels, pulling into a parking spot. My mom still takes great joy in periodically retelling the events of that day, and as the story goes, I joyfully took off without warning, chasing the car down the street shouting "Lamborghini!" "Lamborghini!!" in my best eight-year-old Italian accent.

Lamborghini never homologated the limited edition Sesto Elemento for the road, but this guy threw caution to the wind by taking the track-only sports coupe on the highway. He even recorded the high-speed blasts on video and had a Rolls-Royce along as a posh camera car. Lamborghini made just 20 examples of the Sesto Elemento, and they sold for 2 million euros each, which equaled $2.8 million at that time. The powertrain was the 570-horsepower V10 and all-wheel drive system from the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, and Lambo made extensive use of carbon fiber for the special coupes, which cut the weight to just 2,200 pounds. The company claimed they could sprint to 62 miles per hour in only 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 198 mph. This driver was clearly very excited to show off the copious power from the limited edition Lamborghini, but he might have had a better time at the track. That is where Lamborghini means for the Sesto Elemento to play, and there would be no worries about the authorities potentially confiscating his rare ride. Related Video:
