Reiter Extenso R-EX shows Gallardo's still got it

Lamborghini is moving on from the Gallardo to the new Huracan, and with it, is taking its racing program in house. But the Bolognese marque's longtime racing partner Reiter Engineering has a thing or two to say about that, and is showing what it can still do with an old platform by introducing the new Gallardo Extenso R-EX. Designed to comply with GT3 regulations, you can tell just from looking at it that Reiter's new competition-spec Lambo is meaner and more aggressive than any version it's done before. Reiter widened the rear track by five inches to make it over 80 inches broad (the widest allowed under FIA GT3 regulations), cloaked it in carbon-fiber bodywork (to make it look more like the Murcielago R-SV the company built for GT1), fitted new camshafts (for a fatter torque curve) and Mahle pistons (for improved efficiency and reliability), and retuned the exhaust to give the fans something to cheer for. The result is an even more extreme take on the Gallardo than anything we've seen to date, and promises to give even the upcoming Huracan GT3 a run for its money in series like the Pirelli World Challenge, Blancpain GT Series and SRO GT Sports Club. Privateer racing teams will be able to get their hands on one for ˆ248,000 (a little over $300k) with the full confidence that Reiter's experience has to offer: To date the company has built over 100 racing cars that have gone on to win over 200 races and score some 400 podiums. The Bavarian company further claims that every one of those built since 2012 is still on its original engine. Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corse will cost $260K* and only come in yellow

If you live in America and want one of the 15 Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corses slated for our shores, you'll be happy to know you can have it any color you want, so long as it's yellow. Seems a bit odd, we'll agree, but Lambo's Giallo Midas is kind of a trademark for the brand.
Pricing for the special edition Gallardo, which is limited to just 50 units worldwide, starts at $259,100, *not including the $2,100 gas guzzler tax or the unspecified destination costs. Besides the 15 cars slated for the US market, Canada will get three vehicles of its own. Regardless of where you buy your Squadra Corse, though, they'll be individually numbered and will begin deliveries in September.

1963 Lamborghini 350 GTV still looks fresh on Pebble's Concept Lawn

We already brought you a gallery of Lamborghini's latest rockstar, the Veneno, from it's vaunted spot on the lawns of The Quail here in Monterey. Apparently the Italian brand didn't want the Pebble Beach crowds to feel left out, so it brought the supercar along to the Concept Lawn here as well. Not to miss out on the classics action Lamborghini has matched the Veneno with the car that started everything for the company: the original 1963 350 GTV prototype.
With 50 years separating the Veneno from the debut of the hip 350 GTV at the Turin Motor Show, Lamborghini cheekily mentions that it has stuffed "100 years of innovation in half the time." We'll leave the judgments of historical significance in the capable hands of the Pebble judges, but will agree that the original Lamborghini still looks amazingly hot, decades after its reveal. Apparently the classic 350 GTV doesn't travel a whole lot either, so we're happy to have a chance to lay eyes on it here.
