Twin-turbo Lamborghini ignites at 250 mph

Yesterday we covered a crash at the Unlimited 500+ drag race in Moscow, featuring a Nissan GT-R, but today brings better news: a Lamborghini Gallardo making 2,005 horsepower successfully went 250 miles per hour on the one-mile strip in 23.9 seconds without crashing. That's the good part. The bad part is the single-serving supercar burst into flames immediately after it crossed the finish line. Fortunately the driver was able to quickly bring the Lamborghini to a stop and get out of the car, but we have a feeling it will need some engine work before it sees any more action. That and perhaps a new paint job.
Underground Racing tuned the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 to such an astronomical power output with the help of what sounds like twin-turbochargers (which is typical of UR builds). But despite the very impressive mile time, it's still hard not to feel sorry for the poor engine, which just couldn't take the pressure. As one of the most prestigious sports car makers on the planet, Lamborghini doesn't have much of a need for commercials - the German-owned, Italian brand's cars speak for themselves. It strikes as rather odd, then, that Lambo's new Huracán was spotted zipping around a downtown area with a full camera crew in tow.
Whatever Lamborghini is up to is rather irrelevant, because this video marks one of the very first occasions where we get to see and hear the Gallardo replacement in action. This is also the first appearance of an orange Huracán that we can recall - previous examples were yellow, grey or white - and it looks quite nice in one of Lamborghini's distinctive shades. That mid-mounted V10 offers up a filthy howl that echoes off the buildings, though the sight of the Huracán as it slices through a slalom made up of dumpsters might be the only thing that can trump that raucous engine note.

Lamborghini donates Huracan to Italian police

Lamborghini made a big entrance with the Huracán LP 610-4, and now the Italian State Police can, too. The Sant'Agata automaker donated one to Giovanni Law to the replace the Gallardo the authorities have had in service for six years.
It will be used to "sustain security on Italian roads" and is loaded with a Q-Branch worth of features that you won't even find on any Ad Personam options list: a "Proof Video Data System" to track the Lamborghini and the suspects being chased, number plate recognition and tracking and real-time transmission of images to HQ, four sirens, an aerodynamic light bar, a refrigerated trunk for organ storage, a defibrillator and - naturally - a hand-held stop sign.
