Wild one-off Lamborghini Sogna for sale at $3M [w/videos]

The Lamborghini Countach was the dream car for many teens and pre-teens in the 1980s, but at least one Japanese man thought there was room for improvement. As the story goes, Ryoji Yamazaki had a dream of a supercar as a 13-year-old, and at the age of 41, he used his design studio, Art & Tech, to create the Sogna in 1991.
Yamazaki unveiled the Sogna at the 1991 Geneva Motor Show as a rebodied Countach with intentions of selling it in limited production, but thankfully - or sadly, depending how you look at it - the $1.6 million (1991 price) coachbuilt supercar never made it into production. The Geneva show car was a rolling chassis, and the only other example that was produced was a fully operational version, shown above, which was unveiled at the 1994 Essen Motor Show. This car from Essen is now listed for sale on James Edition for 2.38 million euros, or around $3.25 million USD.
With its oddball styling and kiwi green paint, the Sogna was likely doomed from the start, but it still boasts the Countach's full powertrain including the 448-horsepower, 5.2-liter V12 and a claimed top speed of 186 miles per hour. Italian investigators search Lambo headquarters in VW probe

Italian investigators searched Lamborghini headquarters on Oct. 15 to look for evidence of managers' involvement in Volkswagen's emissions cheating. VW's main office in Verona was also inspected, according to Reuters. Lamborghini is owned by Volkswagen, and Lambo in turn is listed as the owner of VW Group Italia. Authorities wanted to find out if employees were conscious that the vehicles were skirting emissions rules. "It is one thing if I sell water and pretend it's wine, but if I sell water believing it is wine it's different." Verona chief prosecutor Mario Giulio Schinaia said to Reuters. Italian newspaper Gazetta del Sud reported that several managers in Italy were under investigation for alleged fraud. Prosecutors in Germany have also been rigorously investigating VW, and they recently staged a similar raid on the company's headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. The automaker reportedly turned over documents and other data relating to the software defeat device. Meanwhile, VW's internal investigation has turned up little wrongdoing, though a recent leak suggested otherwise, and at least 30 managers could have known about the defeat device. The automaker has disputed that figure. Volkswagen of America CEO Michael Horn testified before Congress that he believed only a few individuals were involved. The situation hasn't been easy on VW in the US, either. The Department of Justice has also been pursuing an investigation into the automaker. Plus, state attorneys general are filing lawsuits against the company for defrauding customers. VW has until Nov. 20 to explain a repair for the problem to the California Air Resources Board. Drive shows how Lamborghini LP750-4 SV hits 217 mph

No matter how you look at it, the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV is an absolutely astonishing automobile. Imagining more performance than the standard Aventador is difficult by itself, but company's engineers are able to boost power by almost 50 horsepower to 740 ponies, and copious carbon fiber body parts trim 110 pounds from the scales. We also already know that this limited model offers the spectacular ability to race around the Nurburgring in just less than seven minutes. Now in a sponsored video about Lambo, the brand's research and development boss Maurizio Reggiani is poetically telling Drive what goes into crafting such a special machine. According to Reggiani, the whole point of the SV is to make any driver feel like a hero behind the wheel. The model's abilities should let a person reach their own limits well before the coupe ever nears its own. That massive performance envelope then pushes the coupe's owners to keep getting better. While Reggiani beautifully expresses the passion behind engineering the Aventador SV, the real thrill in this clip is seeing and hearing the coupe snake around the Catalunya circuit. The 6.5-liter V12 makes a symphony of exquisite sounds around the Spanish track. Best of all, the closer the revs get to the 8,500-rpm redline the more that the engine lets out that rapturous wail.
