Reiter Extenso R-EX shows Gallardo's still got it

Lamborghini is moving on from the Gallardo to the new Huracan, and with it, is taking its racing program in house. But the Bolognese marque's longtime racing partner Reiter Engineering has a thing or two to say about that, and is showing what it can still do with an old platform by introducing the new Gallardo Extenso R-EX. Designed to comply with GT3 regulations, you can tell just from looking at it that Reiter's new competition-spec Lambo is meaner and more aggressive than any version it's done before. Reiter widened the rear track by five inches to make it over 80 inches broad (the widest allowed under FIA GT3 regulations), cloaked it in carbon-fiber bodywork (to make it look more like the Murcielago R-SV the company built for GT1), fitted new camshafts (for a fatter torque curve) and Mahle pistons (for improved efficiency and reliability), and retuned the exhaust to give the fans something to cheer for. The result is an even more extreme take on the Gallardo than anything we've seen to date, and promises to give even the upcoming Huracan GT3 a run for its money in series like the Pirelli World Challenge, Blancpain GT Series and SRO GT Sports Club. Privateer racing teams will be able to get their hands on one for ˆ248,000 (a little over $300k) with the full confidence that Reiter's experience has to offer: To date the company has built over 100 racing cars that have gone on to win over 200 races and score some 400 podiums. Lamborghini Miura and Countach driven back to back in bid to make Autoblog staff jealous

For the Autoblog staff, we're in the honeymoon phase following the Monterey car week and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. In terms of big, huge, labor-intensive events on the horizon, we're free until the beginning of October, when we'll ship off to Paris for its annual motor show. That means we're free to look back on the beautiful metal out in California, which included more than a few classic Lamborghinis, including the Miura and Countach.
Unfortunately, we never had a hope of getting behind the wheel (believe it or not, asking exceptionally wealthy car collectors to borrow their meticulously maintained, extraordinarily rare vehicles doesn't elicit immediate cooperation). Considering this grave injustice, we're left taking solace in the latest video from Car, which sees the British outlet taking spins in both the Miura and Countach. The pair of vehicles served as forbearers to the modern supercar, with the former's early mid-engine layout and the latter's aggressive, wedge-shaped styling.

Lamborghini Huracan SV spied looking aggressive

Despite the production fate of the Lamborghini Urus seemingly in limbo, Lamborghini isn't waiting around for another project to work on. The Aventador SV Roadster has already been spotted in the arctic, and our spies just snapped this hotter Huracan in testing, as well. Except for the stickers on the body and larger front brake calipers, this Huracan looks mostly stock... at first glance. However, once your eyes move to the rear end, there's something very peculiar. You can see a camouflaged area at the back with mesh covering it that's above the standard diffuser. Behind that, spotting the two exhaust tips is quite easy. This look shares a strong resemblance with the Huracan GT3 racecar and suggests the lower pipes on this mule might just be for show. The exact name for this special Huracan is a mystery for the moment. Lamborghini tends to reserve the SV name for its V12 models, while the V10s get the Superleggera moniker. However, the Blancpain decal on the door could suggest a relationship with either the GT3 or possibly the Super Trofeo racers. Since both of them are rear-wheel drive, this could be some confirmation for that rumored version of the road car.
