Reiter Extenso R-EX shows Gallardo's still got it

Lamborghini is moving on from the Gallardo to the new Huracan, and with it, is taking its racing program in house. But the Bolognese marque's longtime racing partner Reiter Engineering has a thing or two to say about that, and is showing what it can still do with an old platform by introducing the new Gallardo Extenso R-EX. Designed to comply with GT3 regulations, you can tell just from looking at it that Reiter's new competition-spec Lambo is meaner and more aggressive than any version it's done before. Reiter widened the rear track by five inches to make it over 80 inches broad (the widest allowed under FIA GT3 regulations), cloaked it in carbon-fiber bodywork (to make it look more like the Murcielago R-SV the company built for GT1), fitted new camshafts (for a fatter torque curve) and Mahle pistons (for improved efficiency and reliability), and retuned the exhaust to give the fans something to cheer for. The result is an even more extreme take on the Gallardo than anything we've seen to date, and promises to give even the upcoming Huracan GT3 a run for its money in series like the Pirelli World Challenge, Blancpain GT Series and SRO GT Sports Club. Privateer racing teams will be able to get their hands on one for ˆ248,000 (a little over $300k) with the full confidence that Reiter's experience has to offer: To date the company has built over 100 racing cars that have gone on to win over 200 races and score some 400 podiums. The Bavarian company further claims that every one of those built since 2012 is still on its original engine. "I hope the sun doesn't shine today." "I'm good-looking enough." "What the Aventador really needs is more power." There are some words that are seldom if ever spoken, but then there are some people who aren't inclined to listen to them. And we're glad that a growing number of 'em work for Lamborghini. Because without them, we wouldn't have beautiful monstrosities like the new Aventador SV, presented for the first time at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It's actually called the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but that's a mouthful and a half of spaghetti bolognese, so everyone will be calling it SV for short. But whatever you want to call it, it promises to be fast. Like, time-warpingly fast. The tinkerers in Sant'Agata have managed to squeeze 740 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque out of the Aventador's already high-strung 6.5-liter V12. Unburdened by 110 pounds of excess weight, with an increase in downforce by 170 percent, a retuned suspension, a variable steering rack and new carbon-ceramic brakes, the Aventador SV is slated to run to 62 in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 217 miles per hour. Man hired to remove Confederate monuments finds Lambo burned

A contractor in Louisiana is discovering that no good deed goes unpunished. After David Mahler, the owner of H&O Investments, was hired by the city of New Orleans to remove monuments to the rebellious Confederate States of America, he was subjected to death threats. Then his Lamborghini was set on fire. What's bizarre here is the sequence of events. The death threats started rolling in after Mahler was announced as the city's contractor to remove monuments to Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee, PGT Beauregard, and Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis. Then the threatening phone calls started rolling in, New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU reports. Mahler then pulled his company out of the job, but that didn't stop the torching of the new Huracan. A Baton Rouge Fire Department investigation into the fire at the H&O Investments office is still in progress, WDSU reports, but when Mahler's attorney calls the circumstances "extremely suspicious," it's not an unreasonable statement. The car was utterly unrecognizable after the fire. You can make out the tires and seat frames, and a lump of melted metal where the engine used to be, but that's about all that's left of Sant'Agata's new entry-level model.
