Gumball team creates Lamborghini-powered Batmobile

Look, whatever you think of the Gumball 3000 Rally, it does attract some spectacular machinery. High-end supercars and modded monsters are the norm, but occasionally, something really special pops up. Like the Batmobile. Okay, so this isn't exactly the Batmobile, but the Dark Knight's wheels clearly served as the inspiration for this brute. It comes from Team Galag, one of the many groups that contest the globe-trotting Gumball. This car has had very real, very talented hands on it during development. According to the video, the lead engineer spent 15 years at Sweden's Koenigsegg, which might explain the lovely detail on the carbon-fiber body. The fixed wheel covers are impressive but disorienting, making it look like the car just hovers over the road. Underneath all that carbon fiber sits a thumping 5.2-liter V10, borrowed from a Lamborghini Gallardo. This might be the only application where this engine is underwhelming – look at that body, and then listen to the engine. It just feels a little mismatched for such a wild looking car. Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster will debut in Monterey

While the Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance remain a brilliant place to watch cars (and people), it just wouldn't be the same if some of the world's finest automakers didn't bring something new to the affair. Lamborghini will take center stage in the lead up to this year's Concours, unveiling the all-new Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster at The Quail on Friday, August 14. While normally we'd say that details are scarce, the truth is, we expect the Aventador SV Roadster to simply mimic the standard SV hardtop. That should mean a screaming, 740-horsepower V12, a sub-three-second sprint to 60 miles per hour, a 200-mph-plus top speed, and a price tag in excess of half a million dollars. The SV Roadster will be limited to just 500 units, making it rare even among the ultra-pricey world of Lamborghini. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler: Ducati is not for sale

"Ducati is not for sale." Those words, attributed to Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, are about as clear and definitive as can be, and they reiterate a previous statement about the potential sale of the premium Italian motorcycle brand that was made in March of this year. "[Ducati and Lamborghini] belong to Audi and, together with us, have an excellent future," said Stadler. Thing is, Audi, as well-off and established as it may be, still falls under the Volkswagen umbrella. And, as you're surely aware, things haven't exactly been smooth sailing for the VW Group over the last several months. The German automaker has squirreled away billions of dollars in anticipation of the legal fallout that's sure to come from the falsification of vehicle emissions data, and that's going to leave the company strapped for cash. All of that bad news led to speculation that VW could sell off some of its non-core businesses. What of the future of the Scania and Man heavy truck brands? Those don't currently appear to be on the auction block, either. VW's continued involvement in the HD truck segment was announced as part of the brand's TOGETHER - Strategy 2025 plan, in which Volkswagen outlined plans to push further into vehicle electrification and vehicle autonomy.
