Purchased this Optima new, intending to keep it for a long time.

(What it looked like.)

Settled on the EX model & 2.4L motor (over the SX or turbo) due to lower
price, creature comforts, better fuel economy, lower insurance rates.

Got the Premium and Technology packages:

Made the following additions / modifications...

* 4x ARK springs (lowered vehicle 1"-1.5")

* Drag Racing DR-43 wheels (18"x8.5")

Lowered for better handling and fuel economy.
8.5" and 40mm offset combine to deliver a sporty appearance.
18" means widely available tires, and wheels that are
cheap enough to replace if necessary. (receipt)

* Continental ExtremeContact DWS (235/45) tires:

Chosen for handling.  Driven about 25,000 miles.  Good tread remaining.
Tires need rotation now, replacement after another 10-15k.  (receipt)

* Gloss black Custom grille from Shark Racing,

* "K" badges on front, rear, steering wheel:

You might from time to time be asked, "What kind of car is that?"
I usually answer honestly. But you don't have to. (receipts)

* Tinted windows 50% front,  35% rear:

The legal limit permitted in Virginia. (receipt)

* WeatherTech FloorLiner DigitalFit mats:

Not cheap. Just excellent.  From WeatherTech.

This car does not come with a spare tire.
I bought the donut + jack kit from Kia and cut my
factory foam insert so it fits neatly where it should. (receipt)
Don't buy an Optima without the spare!

Purchased but not installed...

* Rear Spoiler:

Decided against installing this, but someone else
might want it. Painted and ready to bolt on if desired. (receipt)

* Concept III Cold Air Intake:

Ready to install for anyone who wants another
degree or two of improvement in fuel economy.
From Concept 3 Performance.

I used Fuelly.com to track consumption...

You benefit.

Peruse this car's consumption history with notes, even view 56 points on one graph.
(Yes I really did get 39 mpg that August evening...
on BP 87 under cool conditions & light rain.)

The Kia Optima really is an outstanding vehicle.

Comfortable and luxurious for half the price of a Lexus.

This one has not been in any accidents.

It was carefully broken in and gently driven.

Sirius radio/traffic subscription active and included.

All service performed, receipts available.

Would love to keep this vehicle!

But I'm divorcing and need the money.

Hyundai Motor heir Euisun Chung takes over from father after 20 years in waiting

Wed, Oct 14 2020

SEOUL — Hyundai Motor Group appointed Euisun Chung as group chairman on Wednesday, cementing his succession from his octogenarian father in a move likely to give impetus to the world's fifth-largest automaker's push into electric vehicles and flying cars. In the first generational handover at the South Korean automobile giant in 20 years, Chung, 49, said he hoped to lead change at South Korea's second-biggest conglomerate as it battles to stay ahead of the pack in a time of rapid technological innovation in the global auto industry. "Carrying on their bold and innovative legacies, I feel privileged, yet also a sense of great responsibility for opening a new chapter of Hyundai Motor Group," Chung said in his inauguration speech to employees. Chung identified autonomous driving, electrification, hydrogen fuel cell, robotics and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) — industry jargon for flying cars — as his initiatives for the future. Hyundai Motor shares were trading up 0.3% after rising as much as 2.5% after the appointment, while the wider market was down 0.6%. Kia Motors and Hyundai Mobis fell 1.6% and 1.1%, respectively.   Legacies Hyundai Motor Group earlier on Wednesday said Chung had been promoted to chairman from executive vice chairman, replacing his father, Mong-Koo Chung, who was made honorary chairman. Key affiliates of Hyundai Motor Group, including Hyundai Motor, endorsed his inauguration unanimously. The appointment makes Chung the latest third-generation leader to take over one of South Korea's family-led conglomerates, which have been credited with lifting the war-stricken country out of poverty since the 1950s. His father took the wheel of the group in 2000 and transformed the company, once mocked for poor vehicle quality, into the world's No.5 automaker. The 82-year-old has been stepping back from frontline operations in recent years, and gave up his board seat in Hyundai Motor earlier this year. Euisun Chung has played an increasingly visible leadership role since September 2018 when he was promoted to executive vice chairman. Hyundai Motor Group invested $1.6 billion in a self-driving technology joint venture with U.S. Aptiv, forged a partnership with Uber on electric air taxis and invested in ride-hailing firm Grab. In July, Chung set a goal to win more than 10% of the global market for battery EVs by 2025.

Kia launching Uvo 2.0 in 2014 Sorento

Sat, 01 Dec 2012

Along with all the new model introductions hitting the stages of the LA Auto Show, automakers made plenty of announcements in regards to technology heading into the show. Chevrolet's MyLink will be adding Siri and Ford is reportedly preparing some more updates for its MyFord Touch and My Lincoln Touch, but now Kia has announced that it will be releasing the next version of its Uvo infotainment system in the 2014 Kia Sorento and later in other Kia models including the redesigned 2014 Forte.
Uvo is Kia's hands-free infotainment system, and now it will be adding a telematics "eServices" system including vehicle diagnostics, a parking location reminder for drivers and 911 Connect. Officially called Uvo eServices Infotainment System with Voice Command Navigation, this is essentially the "version 2.0" for Uvo, which came with voice recognition and hands-free control of mobile phones when it was introduced in 2010.
When the 2014 Sorento goes on sale, the new Uvo will only be compatible with iPhones, but Android phones are expected to work by the second quarter. Scroll down for Kia's press release on the updated Uvo system.

Porsche tops J.D. Power quality index as Korean brands soar

Thu, Jun 18 2015

While complaints about infotainment systems remain a thorn in the side of automakers for J.D. Power's annual Initial Quality Study, there's a lot to celebrate this year. The average number of problems reported per 100 vehicles fell to 112 in 2015 – a three-percent improvement compared to 116 in 2014. The results of this year's survey are based on the responses of over 84,000 people about problems within the first 90 days of buying or leasing a 2015 model-year vehicle. For the third consecutive year, Porsche tops the rankings with an average of 80 problems per 100 vehicles. Although, that's slightly more than the 74 the German sportscar maker scored in 2014. "While the Japanese automakers continue to make improvements, we're seeing other brands, most notably Korean makes, really accelerating the rate of improvement," Renee Stephens, vice president of US automotive quality at J.D. Power, said in the study's release. In fact, Kia ranks as one of the biggest movers in this year's list. The Korean brand jumped to second place from seventh last year. The company had an average of 86 problems per 100 vehicles, a 20-point improvement. Third place went to Jaguar with an average of 93 problems reported, versus last year's second-place finish with 87 of them. Fourth place was Hyundai, and fifth-place Infiniti also earned a gold star for improvement with 97 issues per 100 vehicles – 31-points better than last year. Fiat still anchored the bottom of the list. However, its 161 problems this year is a lot better than the 206 in 2014. Ranked by nationality, Korean brands (Hyundai and Kia) are now leading the industry in initial quality with an average of 90 problems reported per 100 vehicles. According to J.D. Power, this is the first time Europe's figure beat Japan with 113 and 114 issues, respectively. The American brands also averaged 114. Whereas General Motors dominated last year, the segment awards are spread out in 2015. GM, Hyundai, Nissan, and Volkswagen Group are all tied with four models each earning prizes.
