Up for sale is my 2008 Kia Sportage LX 2WD powered by a 140-horsepower, 2.0L four-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission.  I think this is a great little car to zip around town and yet hauls a surprising amount in the rear cargo area.  This is an extremely reliable car.  I purchased it when it was 4 months old and it had less than 4,000 miles when I bought it.  As you can see it has about 38,000 miles on it now.  Nothing has gone wrong with this car in the over 4 years I have owned it and nothing is wrong with the car now.  I have had the normal maintenance done (yearly Oil Changes and Air Filters when called for).  I have all maintenance records.  Never been smoked in and never been in an accident.  Four new Hankook tires at 32,000 miles so you won’t have to worry about tires for a long time.  The body and interior is excellent.  Only one small door ding on the entire car (right rear fender, in pictures) but you will be hard pressed to see it.  You will not find a 2008 Kia in better condition.  This is a great car and is a perfect small SUV for a family and light hauler.  Though not the most powerful car you can buy, it is very smooth and drivable at interstate highway speeds.  Not a lot of fancy electronics and gadgets, just a reliable and practical transportation vehicle.

The Sportage has fuel economy ratings of 20 mpg city, 25 highway.  Very inexpensive to own and maintain.  Normal maintenance is just the usual oil change every 7,500 miles or every year.

Four-wheel independent suspension for crisp handling on the road, yet long wheel travel and good ground clearance allows it to have some measure of off-road ability.  Inside, the Sportage has space for five adults, with a "Drop & Fold" rear seat that folds down completely, allowing a flat, expanded cargo floor. A fold-flat front passenger seat also helps with especially long loads, or as a work table for the driver when parked. Both of the front seats can be reclined all the way back to meet the rear cushions. With the back seat folded, the Sportage has a cargo capacity of nearly 67 cubic feet.  The rear cargo area also includes an under-floor cargo tray and tie-down anchors built into the floor.  The rear hatch can be opened fully or just the rear window can be opened separately for loading groceries or other small items.  Other interior extras include a center console with a two-stage tray, a lockable glovebox, map and cup holders for all doors, and a rear-seat central armrest.  The Sportage includes standard roof rails with adjustable cross racks, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, and a CD sound system.  Front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain bags, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, and electronic stability control are all on the standard-features.  The Sportage includes a power train warranty for ten years or 100,000 miles.

2016 Kia Soul EV gets $2k-cheaper base model

Tue, Jul 14 2015

With the 2016 Kia Soul EV arriving at dealers in Washington, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, and Hawaii, the company is set to tap a huge array of new customers. Perhaps recognizing that fact, the South Korean brand has added a new base trim that allegedly slashes the electric car's starting price by some $2,000. Joining the former entry-level Soul EV and top-of-the-line EV+, is the new EV-e. While it's considered the base model, it still offers push-button start and a special driver's-side-only ventilation function for the HVAC system, on top of standard front heated seats and a heated steering wheel. The charging system – two ports, one for Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging, and another for DC fast charging – and electric motor/battery pack remains unchanged on the new base trim. As for the rumored pricing figure, it comes from Kia World, which claims the new EV-e will ring up at just $31,950 before and state or federal incentives. As we said, that's some $2,000 less than the current starting price, if the report proves true. Kia is also addressing the customers at the top of the Soul EV range, adding a new Sun and Fun package for the EV+. The new package adds a panoramic sunroof and LED speaker lights that match to whatever music is playing through the six-speaker stereo. Both features have existed on the gas-powered Soul for some time, but are welcome additions to the electric hatchback. As we reported previously, sales of the Soul EV in Oregon, Washington, Texas, Georgia, and Hawaii should be underway as of this month. It's not clear, however, when the new entry level EV-e will arrive in dealers. For 2016, the Soul EV is offered in three trims – Soul EV-e, Soul EV, Soul EV+ (plus) – up from two in 2015. Offering a long list of standard equipment at a lower price point, the Soul EV-e brings new value for those looking for a fun and funky alternative in the EV segment. The Soul EV+ continues as the range-topping trim, and is further enhanced for 2016 with the addition of the Sun & Fun Package.

Average new-vehicle transaction price hits a whopping new peak in December

Wed, Jan 11 2023

Elevated prices for products and higher borrowing rates led to record high transaction prices for new vehicles in December, with the average cost in the U.S. rising to a record $49,507, according to data from Kelley Blue Book released today. The report notes that ATPs — average transaction prices — have climbed above suggested retail prices — MSRPs — for more than a year. Sales volumes were up in December on a year-over-year basis by more than 5%, a situation Kelley attributed to improved supply. Overall sales for 2022, however, were off 8% year over year. “The transaction data from December clearly indicates overall prices showed no signs of coming down as we headed into year-end,” said Rebecca Rydzewski, research manager of economic and industry insights for Cox Automotive. “Luxury prices fell slightly in December, but non-luxury transaction prices were up. Truck sales were particularly strong last month, and with many trucks selling for more than $60,000, a new record was all but inevitable.” Industry analysts claim the most obvious headwinds in the new car market are generated by higher interest rates, forced by the Federal Reserve's rate hikes intended to tame inflation, and by generally limited inventory. A recent report from J.D. Power showed that the average monthly payment for a new vehicle loan in December was $718, up $47 from a year ago. But 16% of consumers in December took out loans with monthly payments of over $1,000. Consumers think vehicles, and electric vehicles especially, are way too expensive. Fortunately, manufacturersÂ’ incentives, all but extinct in the past two years, are returning, especially in the electric-vehicle and luxury market, the Kelley data suggest. Plus, "With the new tax credits on the way, electric vehicle ATPs will drop lower for qualifying vehicles,” Rydzewski said. Non-luxury brands, such as Honda and Kia, showed particularly strong performance in December, with the average price paid at $45,578 — a record high and an increase of $994 month over month. Meanwhile, the average luxury buyer paid $66,660 for a new vehicle last month. Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover showed the most price strength in the luxury market, transacting between 2.6% to 6.5% over sticker price. But luxury brands Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Lincoln, and Volvo showed the least price strength with some discounting in effect, selling 1% or more below MSRP in December, according to the survey.

Hyundai and Kia to hit record 8M sales for 2014

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Hyundai and Kia are on a sales charge in 2014, and parent company Hyundai Motor Group is increasing projections to a record eight million combined units for the automakers by the end of the year – a bump over the original target of 7.86 million vehicles. According to Bloomberg, the key to the growth is beating expectations in Brazil, China and India, and strong crossover sales are also helping the bottom line. In the US, both automakers are doing well this year. In October, Hyundai saw a six percent dip in monthly sales, but through the first 10 months it sold 607,539 vehicles, compared to 601,773 at this point last year. Kia has done even better with 489,711 units sold from January to October, versus 456,137 for the period in 2013. The good news is a welcome antidote to negative headlines like investors' anger over Hyundai's $10 billion land purchase in Seoul, South Korea. The two automakers also had to pay a $300 million penalty to the Environmental Protection Agency for misstating fuel economy on some models. While sales may reach a new record, profits might not grow as much with them. The strong Korean won means that Hyundai and Kia have a tougher time keeping up profit margins compared to Japanese competitors with a weaker yen.
