The rear main is weaping oil which is typical of about every Jeep 4.0 6 cylinder on the road but it doesn't drip or leave oil on the floor so no point in replacing the seal anytime soon. The control arms have some surface rust near the wheels. Soft top has small nickel sized tear on flap over rear window zipper which is really not noticable and does not go through inside. It had this when I purchased it but it's outside the zippered window on the flap that hides the zipper so does not allow water inside."

2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with a six speed that has never been offroaded. I have the title in hand. Has black hard top AND gray soft top (rare). I purchased this Jeep in North Carolina (over 2 hours from coast...not in the beach salt) in stock form and trailered it back under 3 years ago.  Frame is in excellent condition with little to no rust. It has been babied. It's loaded with the 6 speed manual, auto dimming rear mirror with temp guage, Dana 44 axles front and back with axle lockers (stock), fog lights, black diamond plate rock rails, Cruise Control with buttons on steering wheel, Jeep side steps and both hard and soft tops. The Jeep has 62,xxx miles. There were very few silver Rubicons built in 2005 with the 6 speed. The gray soft top is very hard to find. It has the following aftermarket upgrades:
  • Alarm with proximity and bump sensors (has a switch to flip off proximity sensors)
  • 3.5" Rubicon Express Super Flex lift kit
  • Tinted Front Side Windows and Windshield Sun Strip
  • CV Drive Shaft
  • 33x12.5" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials on stock moab rims with 75% tread (only run in the summer)
  • Anodized Aluminum Lift Blocks under seats so you can see over the hood better (easily removed by pulling 4 bolts on each seat)
  • H4 Conversion Headlight Units with Bad Boy High Output Bulbs
  • Heavy Steel Front Bumper with Clevis Hooks
  • Heavy Steel Rear Bumper with Tire Carrier and custom LED Third Brakelight in Spare Tire
  • Hidden Hitch with Trailer Wire Harness
  • Front Sway Bar Disconnects
  • Steering Box Skid Plate
  • Dual Tops Option
  • Custom Rock Rocker Guards
  • Clear Marker Lights (Very clean silver/black theme across Jeep)
  • 5 Black Steelie 15" Rims with 32" tires for winter (4 have very little tread and spare is brand new)
  • Front molded mud flaps for winter protection (on and off with 2 bolts)

Jeep Begins Fixing 1.56 Million Recalled Grand Cherokee, Liberty SUVs

Tue, Jan 14 2014

Chrysler is just now beginning the big job of fixing 1.56 million older Jeep SUVs seven months after a recall was announced, according to The Detroit News. Jeep Grand Cherokees sold between 1992 and 1998 and Jeep Liberty models sold between 2002 and 2007 are being recalled because the gas tank can leak in the event of a rear-end collision, leading to a fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration originally requested the recall of 2.7 million vehicles. Chrysler initially disputed NHTSA's findings and seemed willing to go through a court battle until an 11th-hour deal reduced the number of vehicles involved in the recall. The remaining vehicle owners left out of the recall will receive a "customer service action" notification and may not get fixed. Chrysler says the vehicles are safe and need no repairs. Fixing the 1.56 million Jeeps will cost Chrysler $151 million. NHTSA cited 51 deaths causes by such tank fires. Chrysler plans to install protective trailer hitches to protect the gas tanks, but even the automaker admits the hitches will only provide incremental protection in a low-to-moderate speed rear-end crash. FCA profits surge in second quarter

Fri, Jul 31 2015

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles gave the cash register a beating in the second quarter, improving its net profit to 333 million euros ($364M US), which is a 263-percent jump over its reported Q1 profit of 92 million euros ($108M US). At the same time, FCA improved its global profit margin to 7.7 percent. Compared year-over-year, in Q2 2014 FCA reported net profit of 197 million euros making this year's Q2 a 69-percent increase, and profit margins a year ago were 4.9 percent. The two big factors for this increase are strong NAFTA sales and Jeep. In the US alone, Jeep sold 222,940 units in Q2 this year, a jump of almost 20 percent over the same period last year. Revenue in the NAFTA region totaled $18.8 billion, adjusted earnings before interest and taxes were $1.45 billion, both of those numbers more than doubling compared to 2014. The vastly better numbers come on marginally more global sales, 1,181,000 units sold in Q2 2014, 1,193,000 units sold in the same span this year. In the US, FCA began charging dealers one-percent more for vehicles to up the margins, a move that helped boost its US margin from 4.1 percent a year ago to 5.8 percent the first half of this year. The company is holding steady on its guidance of global deliveries at 4.8 million and its net profit guidance at $1.1 to $1.3 billion. It has increased its adjusted outlook for the year to $120.5 billion in revenue, and EBIT to "over $4.93 billion." What's really going on with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's transmission issues?

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

On September 23, Automotive News reported that Chrysler had idled the second shift workers it hired just five weeks prior at its Toledo Assembly Complex to build the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. At the time, Chrysler said it had "built the critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released" and did not want "to put additional strain on our logistics partners ... upon release." That reasoning was not only unusual, it didn't seem to make sense.
It appears the center of the nine-speed issue is software, not hardware.
That same day, the Detroit News ran a piece claiming workers at the Toledo factory said the halt was due to issues with the Cherokee's transmission. It put the number of already-built Cherokees needing fixes at 1,000 and said that some of the workers not laid off had been instructed "to take the Jeep on long test-drives." That made more sense. Three days later, on September 26, Automotive News reported that the 500 workers laid off had been reinstated, with engineers "speeding repairs on the SUV's powertrain software." The AN piece didn't put a number on how many units are being fixed, but it did say that 12,000 have been built and are awaiting delivery to dealers. The best it could say about when dealers will get them, however, is that "progress on a fix is being made. It's unclear when shipments to dealers will start."
