Up for sale is my 1998 TJ Wrangler Sport 4.0L (113,xxx miles). Truck does have a pair of 03-06 Rubicon D44 Axles with factory air lockers, but is not a Rubicon by VIN. 5 speed manual transmission. Montana truck with no rust, very clean and well kept. Has been more than just a mall crawler, she shines up nice, but does have some minor trail wear & tear.

The following is the most accurate description breakdown of the Jeep:

Mechanical Operation/Function: 10/10
This thing performs wonders off road, with a fresh long arm suspension kit, it will out-articulate and out-crawl most other Jeeps. The engine runs extremely strong with plenty of low end torque. Engine doesn't knock, tick or consume oil, and gets routine oil changes at 3K miles. The axles were gone through this spring to ensure that the air lockers were operational and the internal components were safe and sound. Both lockers work and makes the truck extremely capable off road. Unlike other Jeeps, this thing drives tight with no loose front end parts, "death wobble" or choppy ride. The long arm kit not only provides optimal off road performance, but a better street ride as well.

Exterior Aesthetics: 6.5/10
Moving onto the exterior of the truck. Rust-wise, this thing is spotless, and is exactly what you would expect from a Montana truck. As far as the body is concerned, it is once again rust-free and structurally sound. There are some minor "bumps and bruises" from normal/off-road use, but nothing major. Minor rock chips, a couple dings here and there, and light scratches from branches and leaves are to be expected. While the Jeep may not win an award at your local car show, it cleans up and shines with little to no effort, and is a great dual purpose rig! Truck is equipped with a Genuine Mopar tan soft top that is in excellent shape and has no fading, rips or tears. The bumpers and rock sliders are considered "rock armor" and have been used. Expect some missing paint on the black armor parts and skid plates.

Interior Aesthetics: 8/10
Now onto the interior, grey in color. The dash is in excellent shape, and all the radio/heat/AC knobs and buttons work great. The ARB air locker switches are mounted in the center of the dash and are operable. There are no cracks or missing pieces to the dash. All gauges work as well as the steering wheel controls. The seats are in good shape for being 15 years old. Each front seat does have some cracking/separation in the vinyl right where your butt slides on/off. Aside from the typical "buttrub" on the edges, the seats are in great shape with no other rips, tears or holes. The carpet was removed so dirt/mud wouldn't sit and hold moisture or nasty smells. The floor boards are in excellent shape as well with no rust. The truck is equipped with a Tuffy full security console and the truck also has an aftermarket Sony head unit with USB and AUX inputs.

And with 113,xxx miles, the 4.0L is just breaking in. Also, after every single wheeling outing, the tires and wheels were removed, and the underside was pressure washed inside & out (Frame flush included). This truck has never been "ridden hard and put away wet," I have taken a great amount of pride in it and like my stuff looking its best.

Thanks

2020 Land Rover Defender vs. 2020 Jeep Wrangler: How they compare on paper

    Tue, Sep 10 2019

For ages, the Jeep Wrangler has had the serious off-road SUV market in America all to itself, especially when it comes to two-door variants. But competition is coming, and the first on its way is the 2020 Land Rover Defender, which was just revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Each packages retro looks and impressive off-road capability, but does one have an advantage? We decided to take a look into each SUV's specifications and compare them on their engines, drivetrains, interior space and towing among other things, to see how they stack up. Since both SUVs are offered in two-door and four-door versions, we've made sure to feature both versions. You can find all the vital stats in the chart below, followed by more in-depth analysis. Engines and drivetrains The Land Rover is the clear high-performance option of these two SUVs. Its base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, offered only in the four-door Defender 110, is more powerful than either of the gas engines offered on the Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler's four-cylinder matches it on torque, at least. The optional turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six in the Defender makes over 100 more horsepower and pound-feet of torque than either Jeep gas engine. But if you're looking for diesel propulsion, along with its associated torque and fuel economy, the Wrangler will be your only option. Final specs haven't been released, but in the Ram 1500, the same engine makes 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy hasn't been announced for the Land Rover or the diesel Wrangler. But if fuel economy is a concern, the four-cylinder Wrangler is the most frugal of the SUVs we have numbers on. As for transmissions, the Wrangler is your only choice if you have to have a manual. It's available on both the two-door and four-door models, but only with the V6 engine. If you don't mind an automatic transmission, both SUVs come with variations on the ZF eight-speed auto. Getting the power to the wheels is another area where these two SUVs diverge. The Jeep is very traditional with a standard selectable four-wheel-drive system with two-wheel drive, and low- and high-range four-wheel drive modes. On the Sahara, there's an available full-time four-wheel drive mode, but the other modes are still available. On the Land Rover, you get full-time four-wheel drive, the same kind used on the Land Rover Range Rover.

Auto critic calls out Corvette, Mustang and Cherokee faithful

    Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Most automotive purists fear change, but not without reason. Change, after all, did kill big-block V8s, along with most station wagons and manual transmissions. But change has also brought with it far more performance, safety and fuel economy - not to mention ridding the world of shag carpet interiors, bias-ply tires and those horrible motorized seatbelts of the early '90s.
By this time next year, the Chevy Corvette, Jeep Cherokee and next-generation Ford Mustang will all be on sale and will all, in some way, have angered or offended purists. To those critics, Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press is preemptively telling them to stop complaining - at least until they've all been driven. From the Corvette's square taillights and the Cherokee's radical nose to whatever pony car purists will harp on the 2015 Mustang for, Phelan's column points out the positives of automotive evolution and the negatives of staying the course for too long. That's fair enough, but do you think Phelan is on point, or all wet? Head on over to the Detroit Free Press to read his words, then have your say in Comments.

NHTSA closes investigation on 4.7M FCA power modules, no recall

    Thu, Jul 30 2015

FCA US hasn't had the best time with recalls as of late. Not only did the company recently agree to greater safety oversight and paid $105 million to the government, that came just days after hacking fears prompted a 1.4-million model recall campaign. However, a recent decision to close an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration means that the automaker doesn't have to worry about another major recall possibly affecting 4.7 million vehicles, according to the agency's report (as a PDF). Last September, the Center for Auto Safety petitioned NHTSA to investigate an alleged problem with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on these FCA US models. The group claimed that a fault with the component could cause a variety of maladies, including stalls, not starting, catching fire, unintended acceleration, and airbag non-deployment. At the time, it also submitted 70 cases where this had reportedly happened. According to NHTSA, "no valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components." The agency did find signs of an issue with the fuel pump relay in some Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos, but FCA US issued recalls for the problem in September 2014 and February 2015. Without anything else to go on, the Feds don't think it's worth investigating this topic any more.
