United States
Up for auction is my 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Less than 5Kmiles on complete power and drive train swap/re-build. Completely rebuilt 5.0L SBC Roller Motor from '90 Camaro and its resting on Novak weld-in motor mounts. Its cam is 7 BDC. It has a GM HEI ignition system and an Offenhauser 4bbl manifold with Holley Truck Avenger 479 cfm carb, an AFCO aluminum radiator, a 16 inch puller fan on a 185 degree auto-switch. 3/4-ton 700R4 with Novak main shaft and adapter for T-case. 700R4 has new Torque Converter with Lock-up at 55 mph. NP231J w/ Novak shifter, JB Gear SYE and Tera-Low splitter. D44R Front Axle w/ 3.73, Detroit Locker, High Steer, GM/Spicer 1-ton TRE's and Drag Link. Axle housing from '77 F-150 4x4 w/ passenger side shortened. 3/4-ton axle shafts cut and re-splined by the Ranger Station. GM/Spicer/Moog stubs and u-joints, GM disc brakes and shields, Ford outers and hubs. Rear Axle is 8.8 w/ 3.73's and factory limited slip-diff from '98 Ford Explorer. It is mounted using Mountain Off Road axle and E-brake kit. To eliminate a common weak spot, the axle tubes were TIG welded to the diff housing using high nickel steel. Spider-Trax adapt the 5x5.5 wheels to the 8.8's stock 5x4.5 bolt pattern. 4 wheel disc brakes give it great stopping behavior. Lokar 16 inch trans floor shifter. 5 5x5.5 bolt pattern 15x8 wheels blasted and powder-coated with 35x12.50-15LT BFG Mud T/A's. SOA with one extra leaf added to front leaf pack to help level the Jeep and support the new motor. Front shock towers from F-350 with GM leaf spring plates flipped to match SOA and High Steer. Shocks are from Off Road Unlimited and are comparable to RS 9000's. Along with the SOA there is a 2 inch body lift and 1.5 inch cross member drop. The Best-Top and carpet kit are used but in very good condition as are the original seats. All of the original gauges work except the tach. The windshield and windshield frame are brand new. The front bumper is a powder-coated 4 inch box tube 1/16 wall that is frame rail wide with 1 inch thick clevis mounts welded front and rear and 45 degree brush guard. The rear bumper is also 1/16 wall 4 inch box tube swing away with a 1-ton High-Lift bumper jack and full sized spare mounted. This Jeep is a great Jeep and I have been working on it for ten years while I was in the service, dragging it from one duty station to another. Most of the work was done by me, family and friends. It has been a labor of love and no corners were cut. Unfortunately I'm no longer in the service, I have young children, a wife and a life with less time in it to just drop everything and go wheelin'. I hope it finds its way into the hands of some one who likes to wrench and trail ride because that's really what owning a Jeep is all about. Thank you for checking out my auction. On Nov-18-13 at 17:36:48 PST, seller added the following information: I am located in New Orleans LA. My apologies for not including this in the original listing. |

Jeep teases Trailcat and other Easter Safari concepts
Thu, Mar 3 2016Update: It's confirmed. The Trailcat is a Hellcat-powered Wrangler concept. Stay tuned for more details. Ahead of the 50th annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, the company is teasing two of the seven concepts it'll be taking along. There are virtually no solid details about these two Jeeps, save that they exist. But just reading the word scrawled across the Jeep Wrangler Trailcat concept's hood gets the blood pumping. We've been hearing about Hellcat-powered Jeeps for a while now. The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has been the subject of a steady drum-roll of rumors and reputed confirmations, and even a spy video. But that's the Grand Cherokee. But a Wrangler? The aftermarket has been fooling with it. A company called Hauk will stuff one in a Wrangler for you, and surely other companies will follow. For Jeep itself to stuff one into a concept vehicle seems like a great way to fire up the diehard Wrangler folks. The other concept is called the Jeep Crew Chief, and it looks like an update of the Jeep Chief concept from last year. That incredible, retro design recalled the SJ-generation Jeep Cherokee of the 1970s and '80s. Last year's Chief was based on a Wrangler Unlimited, with the rear doors slightly disguised to emulate its two-doored forbearer. Based on the "Crew" part of the name, we can surmise it might be a crew-cab pickup conversion with the wonderful Chief front end. Expect it to be a hit, as well. Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk headlines 2017 model year updates
Thu, Mar 24 2016If the photos below look familiar, it's because we saw them last week. Yes, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is real, and it's a welcome (and predictable) addition to the Jeep family. It boasts rugged good looks and plenty of capability, and debuts this week at the New York Auto Show. Standard Trailhawk equipment includes Jeep's Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive system, a revised air suspension (specifically for Trailhawk, we're told), skid plates, the black hood decal, and cute little red tow hooks. It's also got an ever-so-slightly different front fascia, taken right from the 2012 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Moab concept. Buyers can choose from 18- or 20-inch wheels. Looking for something a bit more posh? Try the Summit, pictured below, with its 20-inch polished wheels, LED foglights, and full-wrap Laguna leather interior. It's loaded to the gills with every available Grand Cherokee option, and certainly sounds like one seriously nice SUV. View 15 Photos What's great is that both Trailhawk and Summit models can be had with three different engines. The standard powerplant is Chrysler's 295-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6, but the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 are also available. (We love the idea of a Trailhawk with the diesel, by the way.) Both models go on sale this fall. Read more about both in the press blast below.
