Up for consideration is my 1988 Jeep Wrangler Laredo with only 9000 original miles.

Before I get into any description let me say I had never planned to sell this Jeep, but unfortunately I don't have much of a choice right now.  I was in a car accident in late March of this year and have been unable to work since due to the nature of my injuries. I am only selling it as our savings are starting get low and my family comes first. So by winning this auction not only are you getting a super nice Wrangler that needs nothing but are also helping out a guy down on his luck at the moment.

I have known about this Jeep since it was brand new as the previous owner was a friend of my fathers.  I actually helped install the CB radio antennas on it right after he brought it home at the ripe young age of 14. Now I am closing in on 40!  My father had told him if he ever wanted to sell the Jeep to let him know and he promised to do so.  Well he lived up to that promise. Fast forward 24 years and a phone call later and the Jeep now sits in my driveway.

I thought it best to describe this Jeep as if I were going to go look at it and give my honest opinions. Remember though, that's all they are is opinions and one persons can vary from another. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Body - Paint has some surface scratching in clear coat only due to being used on a farm 75 percent of the time. Nothing that couldn't be buffed out. Original Laredo stripe decals have a few spots where I guess you could say small sections cracked and washed off over the years. There are a few nicks in places that have been touched up.  Small dime sized dent in left front fender that has not damaged paint finish. Hard to see unless you are looking for it. Would take 30 minutes to have pulled by Painless Dent Repair (PDR). If I didn't mention it you probably would never notice it. Hardtop has faded some and has some nicks/scratches. Side step extension flares have some spider cracking in the paint.  All of the mentioned does not bother me. It does not detract from the Jeep's appearance unless you nitpick it to death.  I try to remember this thing is 26 years old.  With that said, there is not any rust on the body. I know Jeeps and where they tend to rust. This one has none.

Frame - Frame is in excellent condition with only superficial surface rust in spots. Nothing you could consider actual rusting. Also, when feeling inside the frame channel it feels smooth to the touch with no indication of rusting.

Interior - Interior is in good shape with no rips or tears however it does have some dirt soil in spots from the previous owner.  ( I am having a complete interior detail done before delivery to new owner) No weird or bad smells. Ashtray appears to have never been used and there is no smoky smell.  Lifting of carpet reveals shiny rust free floors that look as they probably did when Jeep left from the factory.

Electrical - All gauges, lights, cruise control, wipers, and stereo function as normal.

Engine - Not really much to say here.  It's a 258 with 9,000 original miles. Runs excellent. No weird noises or leaks.  Belts and hoses look good.

Transmission - Again, not much to say. Shifts into all gears properly without any hesitation. Fluid looks nice and clean and smells normal.

Transfer Case - Shifts in and out of 4-Hi and 4-Low very smooth with no binding or noise. No leaks at input or output shaft seals.

Differentials - No abnormal noises. Fluid clean. Input shaft seals dry on both ends.

Braking System - Parking brake works as should. New front brake pads. New rear brake drums, shoes, and hardware kit.

Below is a list of items the previous owner had installed when new and items I have replaced or added within the last 400 miles:

Previous Owner
Ramsey 12,000 LB Industrial Type Winch. (this winch could pull your house off its foundation )
CB Radio and dual stick antennas mounted on on front bumper.
Stainless Steel Light Bar with 4 KC Square 55 Watt Lights

Within the last 400 miles
Old Man Emu (ARB) Leaf Spring and Shock Replacement. This is more of a heavy duty suspesion over what you would consider a lift kit. I bought Old Man Emu because I wanted the best quality, and wanted a heavy duty spring to keep from any front end sag due to the Ramsey Winch.
Daystar complete body mount replacement set
JKS Front Sway Bar Links
QTY - Five 31x10.50x15" BF Goodrich KM2 Tires
QTY- Five Mickey Thompson Classic Alloy Wheels
XENON  Extended Coverage Fender Flares Front and Rear
Optima Yellow Top Gel Cell Battery
Kentrol Stainless Steel Door Hinges, Hood Hinges, Hood Latches, and Windshield Hinges * NOTE* I have yet to get the windshield hinges installed but they will be installed by time of auction end
Rear Brake Drums, Shoes, and Hardware Kit
Front Brake Pads
Complete Tune-Up
New Carburetor

I have it listed with a Buy it Now price and am open to some offers but will not respond to lowball insulting ones. I have WAY more than my Buy it Now price and but am looking for a quick sell however I will not give it away. I have done my best to honestly describe the Jeep
and think I have given a fair representation of it. No, it's not perfect but I seriously doubt there are many more 26 year old unrestored Jeep's out there that are in better shape.  For what it's worth, I am a person who still believes in their word and a handshake.  The only other things I can say is it was hardly ever driven on the main road so it did not experience any salt and I would guess that is the main reason there isn't any rusting going on.  The previous owner also kept up the highest level of maintenance as he had his own mechanics which kept all of the vehicles on the property.  The oil was changed yearly along with keeping check of all fluids and wear items.

I will require a $250.00 non-refundable PayPal deposit within 48 hours of auction end and remaining balance to be paid within 7 days by wire bank transfer or certified bank check. I will not release the vehicle or title until funds have cleared.   I will be glad to assist with any shipping arrangements you make. I am not going to put the "I reserve the right to end this auction early due to being advertised for sell locally" thing as it is not advertised locally.  Honestly, I don't want to see it around after selling so I hope it goes far away.  I also just noticed that Auto Check lists this as one owner. That information is incorrect. I am actually the second owner as stated above.  The previous owner could not find the title when I purchased it and had to have a new duplicate title issued which does reflect in the Auto Check report. Just clarifying that up so it causes no confusion.
Again, if you have any questions please ask and I will respond as soon as possible. Thanks for looking at my Jeep!

Jeep sets all-time sales record in 2012

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

Last year was good to Jeep. Chrysler has announced its trail-rated brand set an all-time global sales record in 2012 by moving 701,626 units. That number easily surpasses the previous record set in 1999 when Jeep sold 675,494 models. All told, the brand saw a 19-percent sales increase worldwide over 2011, and much of that swell can be traced directly to the Wrangler. While the Grand Cherokee led Jeep sales, the Wrangler posted record numbers both globally and within the US, moving 194,142 and 141,669 units in each market, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Compass beat its previous global sales record with 103,321 units rolling off of dealer lots. In the US, Jeep sold 62,010 Patriot units, breaking that model's previous record as well. Jeep's impressive performance in 2012 marks the second year in a row the brand has seen double-digit percentage sales increases. Check out the full press release below.

China-FCA merger could be a win-win for everyone but politicians

Tue, Aug 15 2017

NEW YORK — Fiat Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne has said the car industry needs to come together, cut costs and stop incinerating capital. So far, his words have mostly fallen on deaf ears among competitors in Europe and North America. But it appears Marchionne has finally found a receptive audience — in China. FCA shares soared Monday after trade publication Automotive News reported the $18 billion Italian-American conglomerate controlled by the Agnelli family rebuffed a takeover from an unidentified carmaker from the Chinese mainland. As ugly as the politics of such a combination may appear at first blush, a transaction could stack up industrially, and perhaps even financially. A Sino-U.S.-European merger would create the first truly global auto group. That could push consolidation to the next level elsewhere. Moreover, China is the world's top market for the SUVs that Jeep effectively invented, so it might benefit FCA financially. A combo would certainly help upgrade the domestic manufacturer; Chinese carmakers have gotten better at making cars, but struggle to build global brands, and they need to develop export markets. Though frivolous overseas shopping excursions by Chinese enterprises are being reined in by Beijing, acquisitions that support the modernization and transformation of strategic industries still receive support, and the government considers the automotive industry to be strategic. A purchase of FCA by Guangzhou Automobile, Great Wall or Dongfeng Motors would probably get the same stamp of approval ChemChina was given for its $43 billion takeover of Syngenta. What's standing in the way? Apart from price (Automotive News said FCA's board deemed the offer insufficient) there's the not-insignificant matter of politics. Even as FCA shares soared, President Donald Trump interrupted his vacation to instruct the U.S. Trade Representative to look into whether to investigate China's trade policies on intellectual property. Seeing storied Detroit brands like Jeep, Chrysler, Ram and Dodge handed off to a Chinese company would provoke howls among Trump's economic-nationalist supporters. It might not play well in Italy, either, to see Alfa Romeo and Maserati answering to Wuhan instead of Turin — though Automotive News said they might be spun off separately. Yet, as Morgan Stanley observes, "cars don't ship across oceans easily," and political considerations increasingly demand local manufacture of valuable products.
