Beautiful 1988 Grand Wagoneer 100% Rust Free Original Southern Jeep No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Hoschton, Georgia, United States
Hello, let me start by saying that I realize how stressful it can be to buy a vehicle sight un-seen. I don't think a paragraph & 2 or 3 pictures is enough to accurately describe any vehicle, let alone a 26 year old classic. I want you to know everything I know about anything I list. For that reason, my postings tend to be a little on the long side. I also post 24 super sized pictures. Please take the time to read the item description & view the pictures. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. I have sold classic vehicles to buyers all over the world & everyone seems to be very happy with what they buy from me. I'm sure you will be also. This rare Jeep Grand Wagoneer is amazing! Anyone would be proud to own this truck! The best part is, this is a true auction.....NO RESERVE..... NO GAMES.....The High Bidder At The End Will Own This Amazing Jeep!!!
DESCRIPTION- Known as the 1st Luxury SUV, these V8, 4 wheel drive, Wagoneers have always been very popular. It seems that as newer SUV's become increasingly more expensive & more complicating to maintain.... these tried & true classics are becoming even more desirable. It is getting harder & harder to find a good one everyday. THIS GRAND WAGONEER IS A GOOD ONE!
I was quite lucky to find this Jeep. A friend of mine who works at a local auto auction, called me when it came in & told me I had to come check it out. She knew that I had restored several Jeeps over the years & had a passion for the brand. When I got to the auction I was truly shocked at how nice this truck was. It definitely didn't look like a typical auction vehicle. After doing a little research, I found out that this truck actually belonged to a national charity. I was able to secure the truck before it made it's way through the auction lane, but just barely. This Jeep EXCEPTIONAL in every single way! 1st off, it is completely unrestored as close to totally original as I have ever encountered. With only 124,439 low miles, this rare wagon is extremely clean, completely solid, totally straight & very, very tight. It's not a brand new vehicle but it is about as close as an unrestored Grand Wagoneer will ever get to being a brand new Jeep. I put this classic straight into storage where it has remained for the last year. I am currently building a 1955 Chevrolet for my Father & need the funds & space for that project.
BODY & PAINT- As you can see in the pictures, this Jeep looks amazing. All of the body lines are straight. All of the panel gaps are uniform. The doors have no hinge drop & close with the push of a finger. All of the sheet metal is as straight as you could ever dream of finding. The whole body is string straight! It's very easy to tell that this truck has never been off the pavement. There only 2... just 2... tiny tiny finger nail sized door dings on this entire vehicle! There is ABSOLUTELY NO RUST or rust repair anywhere on this body! The areas which are known to rust on these trucks are totally rust free on this one. The inner & outer rocker panels are perfect. The rear corners are perfect. The bottoms of the doors are perfect. The corners of the door skins are perfect. The bottoms of the front fenders are perfect. The front fender under the battery tray is perfect. The inner fenders are perfect. For lack of a better word, the body on this Jeep is perfect! It is as solid as they come! Obviously I can't actually see under the paint. However, I have been restoring classic vehicles long enough to know that the paint on this Jeep is 100% factory original. This classic wagon was born with every drop of the rare, 1-year only, Buff Yellow Clearcoat paint that you see today. This beauty has had NO PAINT WORK. The paint is original & does show it's age here & there. If you look very closely at the hood, you can see a small amount of clearcoat thinning. There are also tiny chips & scratches present. There have been fading touch-up's to the woodgrain decals over the years. But NO TOUCH-UP's to the body paint! The paint is AMAZING! The decal kits are available should you want to replace the woodgrain in the future. But I love this Jeep just as it is. These little flaws & wear are what make a classic, classic! Everything is uniform. Everything is original. And Everything is in FAR above average condition. This is a life long Southern vehicle so the underside is as nice as the top side. All of the floor pans, pan braces, body mounts, supports etc.... are also TOTALLY rust free. All of the facroty glasses are beautiful! Not one single chip in the windshield You just don't find them like this anymore. Reason being..... they simply no longer exist!
DRIVETRAIN- This truck is powered by a it's original 5.9 liter, 360 cubic inch V8. These engines provided AMC & then Chrysler / Jeep decades of service. They are widely regarded as one of the best V8 engines ever built. This particular engine runs like new. No smoke. No engine noise. No problems at all. Everything about this Jeep is bone stock & original with the exception of an upgraded Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor w/electric choke . Along with an entirely new exhaust system to include full length headers, all new aluminized tubing & new muffler. A much needed update to the old Chrysler carb & crack prone cast manifolds. However, the driver's side header gasket has developed a tiny exhaust leak after being in storage for the last year. Very minor so more than likely just needs a bolt tightened. The transmission is the original 727 torqueflight automatic. It performs flawlessly. The entire 4wd system is stock original. No modifications what so ever. The transfer case works just as it should through all selections. Both the front & rear differentials are nice & tight. These wagons are very capable off the road, as well as on it.
OPTIONS- The Grand Wagoneer was designed & marketed as the 1st luxury SUV & they lived up to that name. From it's extensive polished aluminum brightwork, bumpers & grille treatment... to it's thick spoked cast alloy wheels... to it's square body lines dressed in woodgrain, the exterior styling screamed high class. A scream which can still be heard today! These rare classic vehicles are a favorite of high society. The interior styling could also have something to do with their popularity. Plush leather trimmed seats. Beautiful woodgrain dash & door panel treatments. Every power convenience available at the time. Sitting in this Jeep provides you with the feeling you can go anywhere..... and go there in total comfort. All of these features & options are as close to new as you will ever get! Everything works! Ice cold a/c! Toasty warm heat! Power seats that look & feel as if they have never before been sat on!
CHASSIS- Though there is a little dust on the underside of this truck, you can see in the pictures that everything is in great shape. It is obvious that this is a life long Southern vehicle. There is no corrosion on anything! It is obvious that the truck has never been wrecked. Everything underneath the vehicle is completely clean & straight & still wearing all of it's original paint. I also have a 100% clean, clear AutoCheck & CarFax for this amazing wagon. This Jeep rides & drives just as it did in 1988. All of the steering, suspension, braking system etc... are tight & free from wear. No lifts or modifications. Everything is in well maintained, stock configuration.
INTERIOR- The best way to describe the interior of this Grand Wagoneer is by saying LIKE NEW! The inside is nicer than the outside. Which is saying a lot! The headliner looks fantastic. The dome lights work. There are NO cracks in the dash (rare on an older wagoneer). There are no cracks in any of the trim or bezels (also rare). The leather front bucket seats & rear fold down bench are as if they have never been sat on. There are no splits or tears. No break down of the cushions. Perfect! All of the power functions of the front seats work just as they should. The lack of interior wear is a good indication that all of the miles put on this vehicle have been freeway miles! Another good indication is the lack of wear on the brake & accelerator pedals. Applying the brake frequently at red lights & when changing speeds in around town driving causes the pedal pads to wear thin over the years. The pedal pads in this vehicle shows LITTLE TO NO WEAR! Lack of wear on the seat & lack of wear on the pedals, equals lack of wear on every other part of the vehicle! The woodgrain accents are beautiful. All of the interior panel latches & hinges are perfect. The carpet is like it has never been touched! Even the carpet on the backs of the front bucket seats is like brand spanking new. Every aspect of this rare Grand Wagoneer is in AMAZING condition! Keep in mind, everything inside this Jeep is ORIGINAL... not restored! It's factory LIKE NEW! The only thing that was not born in this Jeep is the high end, Pioneer in-dasy CD player, complete with remote!
TIRES & WHEELS- The wheels are factory 15 alloys. All are straight & true. With NO curb rash or other damage. This truck rides on a brand new matching set of Michelin Radials. They are perfectly balanced & ride completely smooth with no tire noise.
* This is a TRUE auction! * NO RESERVE! * Low starting bid! * You set the final price! * Bid what you think the truck is worth to you! * If you are the high bidder at the end... YOU WIN! TITLE- I have a clean, clear, fully transferable GA title on this vehicle. I own a small street rod shop & in order to purchase this truck on the spot, I had to buy it in my business name. This means that the sale is just like that on one of my streetrods. If you are an out of state resident you will only pay your winning eBay bid amount. You are exempt fron GA state sales tax. However, if you are a GA resident I must collect GA's new TAVT fee & remit it to the state on your behalf. The fee amount will be 6.75% of your winning bid amount. So if you are a GA bidder, you will have to pay the 6.75% over your winning bid amount. If you are a non-Georgia bidder, you will NOT have to pay anything other than your winning bid amount. The GA TAVT fee does not apply to you in any way. You will pay your winning bid amount and nothing more. NO HIDDEN FEES! NO DOC FEES! NOTHING!
BIDDING- Please only bid what you are prepared to pay for this vehicle. Anyone wishing to inspect the Jeep or have it inspected is welcome to do so but inspections must be completed PRIOR to bidding & prior to auction's end. If you have little or no feedback please do not bid without first sending me your contact info through the ASK SELLER A QUESTION link in this listing so that we can speak on the phone prior to you placing your bid. I have encountered a couple of crooks/ scammers here on eBay who have cost me both time & money. This will no longer be tolerated so if you are not a SERIOUS buyer, PLEASE MOVE ON. All members with a genuine interest in this vehicle are more than welcome to ask questions. All will be answered promptly. If you look at my feedback comments you will see that all of the REAL buyers have been very happy after dealing with me. Many of the comments are from people who have been very happy with classic vehicles they have bought from me. I have many repeat customers & take great pride in my eBay reputation. I'm quite sure you will love this rare Wagoneer! SHIPPING- Shipping costs & arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. However, I have assisted buyers & their shippers in the pickup of several vehicles over the years. I can recommend several shippers who have performed well for buyers in the past but you will have to make your own arrangements with them. I will work with you & your shipper so that they can get this truck to you as fast & cost effectively as possible. However, no matter where you live or how you choose to pay, the legal point of sell will be here in GEORGIA as that is where I live & where the vehicle is located. As always, you are welcome to pick this vehicle up in person. I will be more than happy to pick you up at the Atlanta Airport or local Amtrac station, free of charge so that you may drive this Jeep home. I have sold many vehicles to overseas buyers & have no problem with that. However, I do ask international / overseas bidders to contact me prior to bidding. Foreign or domestic, I have a network of shippers who have performed well for past buyers. I have no problem helping you find the shipper who best fits your needs. If you have been shopping for a Grand Wagonner, I don't think you could ask for a nicer example! It's not a brand new Jeep....... but it is very very close! The 1988, 1989, 1990 & 1991 a considered Best Of Breed for these amazing Jeeps. Chrysler only built 45,000 or so units in these last 4 years of production. That is an unimaginably small amount when you consider they turned out 255,000 Jeep Cherokees in 2013! If you do the math, 45,000 is only 900 per state in the US. The real number is surely even less due to many being exported when new & in the years since. Over a quarter of a century has past since this small number was built & sold. How many could possibly be left? I would venture to say, not many. Of the few than are left, how many are in this kind of rust free, unmolested, nearly perfect, original condition? After working with rare classic vehicles throughout my career, I would bet the answer to that question is less than a handful, Worldwide! This ultra-rare SUV is ready to be your daily driver. Mechanically it's dependable & capable. Cosmetically it looks... well, just look at the pictures which were taken yesterday! This Grand Wagoneer is exceptional in every since of the word. It's not brand new. Or newly restored. But rather a very fine example of a true survivor vehicle. This is class you can't find at your local new car store. Anyone can own a $50,000 Lexus or Rover... but very few can find a Jeep like this & this beautiful collector vehicle is going to sell for a small fraction of what a new, run of the mill, luxury SUV costs. If this is the one you've been waiting for, I truly hope you get it! thanks, JD This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. Weekly Recap: Jaguar takes a leap with price cut, new strategy
Sat, Sep 5 2015Jaguar was one of the famous automotive props and plotlines in the now-iconic drama Mad Men. There's a scene where the show's protagonist, Don Draper, deftly undercuts an influential Jaguar dealer by indicating that get-me-in-the-door local radio spots would be an effective way to sell cars like the slinky E-Type. The British executives think this is folly – Draper knows they will – and his advertising strategy wins out over the dealer's approach to move the metal. Jaguar's not doing that, but half a century later in the real world the company is launching plans to make its cars more attainable to new and younger customers like Millenials. These aren't coupons, but this is a leap for Jaguar, which has long banked on sexy styling and its rich motorsports history to overshadow its past mechanical flaws. Put simply, Jaguar is addressing the reasons why people, especially the younger set, don't buy its cars. The 2017 XE will start at $35,895 when it launches next spring – which makes it an attractive buy for a successful, relatively young person. When it's time to move up, the redesigned XF will be more attainable, coming in at $52,895, which is $5,275 less than the 2015 model. The flagship XJ sedan and the enthusiast-oriented F-Type sports car will also get thousands of dollars worth of added standard features, and Jag is actively pitching them as a better value than their competitors. "The Jaguar brand is on the eve of a major transformation that will see it dramatically increase its presence in the United States luxury marketplace with an expanded lineup, pricing focused on the core of the luxury market, and an all-new ownership package with best-in-class coverage," Joe Eberhardt, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said in a statement. The brand's quality and reliability dings have also lurked in the back of buyers' minds for decades, though that's an outdated notion. Jaguar placed third in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study in June and was the top-ranked luxury brand in J.D. Power's Customer Service Index in March. Not content, the company is rolling out an enhanced program called Jaguar EliteCare that launches on 2016 models. It offers a five-year, 60,000-mile limited warranty, the longest among its competitors, with free scheduled maintenance during that period. The plan also covers roadside assistance and connectivity features.
Drive like a prince: Join us for a walk through Monaco's car collection
Fri, Dec 29 2023Small, crowded, and a royal pain in the trunk lid to drive into during rush hour, Monaco sounds like an improbable location for a huge car museum. And yet, this tiny city-state has been closely linked to car culture for over a century. It hosts two major racing events every year, many of its residents would qualify for a frequent shopper card if Rolls-Royce issued one, and Prince Rainier III began assembling a collection of cars in the late 1950s. He opened his collection to the public in 1993 and the museum quickly turned into a popular tourist attraction. The collection continued to grow after his death in April 2005; it moved to a new facility located right on Hercules Port in July 2022. Monaco being Monaco, you'd expect to walk into a room full of the latest, shiniest, and most powerful supercars ever to shred a tire. That's not the case: while there is no shortage of high-horsepower machines, the first cars you see after paying ˆ10 (approximately $11) to get in are pre-war models. In that era, the template for the car as we know it in 2023 hadn't been created, so an eclectic assortment of expensive and dauntingly experimental machines roamed whatever roads were available to them. One is the Leyat Helica, which was built in France in 1921 with a 1.2-liter air-cooled flat-twin sourced from the world of aviation. Fittingly, the two-cylinder spun a massive, plane-like propeller. Government vehicles get a special spot in the museum. They range from a Cadillac Series 6700 with an amusing blend of period-correct French-market yellow headlights and massive fins to a 2011 Lexus LS 600h with a custom-made transparent roof panel that was built by Belgian coachbuilder Carat Duchatelet for Prince Albert II's wedding. Here's where it all gets a little weird: you've got a 1952 Austin FX3, a Ghia-bodied 1959 Fiat 500 Jolly, a 1960 BMW Isetta, and a 1971 Lotus Seven. That has to be someone's idea of a perfect four-car garage. One of the most significant cars in the collection lurks in the far corner of the main hall, which is located a level below the entrance. At first glance, it's a kitted-out Renault 4CV with auxiliary lights, a racing number on the front end, and a period-correct registration number issued in the Bouches-du-Rhone department of France. It doesn't look all that different than the later, unmodified 4CV parked right next to it. Here's what's special about it: this is one of the small handful of Type 1063 models built by Renault for competition.
Jeep recalls 228k Cherokees over airbag deployment fears
Tue, Feb 3 2015Jeep is recalling an estimated 228,181 examples of the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee worldwide because the airbags can inadvertently deploy in some situations. Specifically, the campaign covers 168,092 vehicles in the US, 19,557 in Canada, 4,133 in Mexico and 36,399 outside of North America. According to Jeep, the problem occurs when drivers execute extremely hard handling maneuvers and upset the vehicle's balance, which causes the side-curtain and seat-mounted side airbags to deploy. "The air-bag systems, sensing potential rollovers, automatically activated," according to the automaker's announcement. While this occurred in "a small number" of cases, according to Jeep, the problem caused no reported injuries or accidents. To fix the fault, the company will issue a software update to recalibrate the bags' deployment. Statement: Restraint-System Software Upgrade February 2, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is launching a global recall of an estimated 228,181 SUVs to upgrade software governing side-curtain and seat-mounted side air bags. The action follows an investigation by FCA US engineers after a small number of inadvertent deployments involving drivers who executed extreme maneuvers. These maneuvers dramatically changed the vehicles' angle of operation, relative to the ground. The air-bag systems, sensing potential rollovers, automatically activated. FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. The software upgrade will recalibrate the threshold for deployment and the vehicles will remain compliant with all applicable safety regulations. Affected are certain 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees. Estimated volumes by market are as follows: 168,092 in the U.S.; 19,557 in Canada; 4,133 in Mexico and 36,399 outside the NAFTA region. The Company will notify affected customers. Software will be available at that time. Customers with additional concerns or questions may call 1-800-853-1403.
