American Icon for sale:

This listing is for a very clean and original 1991 Final Edition Grand Wagoneer. This fine example was ordered by the president of the dealership for his own use. This truck rolled off the assembly line on May 23 at 8am in the morning. He ordered this particular Jeep with all the options, even the rare factory sunroof.

This Grand Wagoneer was one of only 1560 produced for the 1991 model year as the last one was made on June 20, 1991. There is no way of knowing the VIN sequence since they jumped all around but this should be somewhere within the last 100 made. Buy this as a collectable item or to drive, but either way this is a must own piece of American Jeep history.

The Black Cherry Pearl paint on the truck is a dealer repaint that was done in 1993 as part of a factory recall. All vinyl and wood trim were replaced within the last month!

Along with the paint all the stainless trim was polished to a high shine. This is a low mileage rust free truck. This Wagoneer still retains the factory fog lamps and factory Jeep covers, which are getting very hard to find especially in this condition.

The interior is all original as it was shipped other than speaker replacement. The original carpet is the ultra plush which is no longer available for sale. Lots of aftermarket companies sell stock carpet kits but they aren't anywhere close to stock. I recently purchased custom floor mats to match the carpet.

Truck still retains the stock radio and it works. The Jensen speakers were replaced. This is not a booming stereo but it was never meant to be. The cordovan leather interior is in great shape and all original to the truck. There are no rips or tears in any of the seats. The original plastic protection is still under each leg of the seats. I replaced the headliner within the last 4 months.

Under the hood it retains mostly all the factory parts. Had a complete tune-up (less than 1K miles ago) which includes carburetor rebuild, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, new fuel pump, oil filter, new Valvoline Maxlife 10-30 oil. New Amsoil transmission fluid and new filter. Both differentials have new Amsoil 75-90w severe gear oil. This truck was prepared for a possible long trip. All vacuum hoses that appeared dry or brittle were changed at the same time. This truck has spent its entire life in a garage in North Carolina so it has never been exposed to road salt and sand. It was brought back (on a flatbed) to the Midwest in 2013, always stored indoors while I did a few renovations.

Tires on the truck are brand new with less than 1,000 miles on them. They are Hankook whitewalls with a 60,000 mile tread wear rating. All grease fittings under the truck has been greased.  So a list of work done in last two months: Window wipes Tires Hankook WSW zero miles Carb rebuilt Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor Rear window motor All new fluids New Mopar window regulators in all windows. This fine example of a Wagoneer is available for viewing and inspection at anytime.

Is this a brand new Jeep? NO. Is this a piece of American history? Most definitely. It is 99 percent original and one of the cleanest close to originals left. This is a very nice truck and deserves a good home. Please if any questions feel free to ask. Ok now on to the requirements of the auction. You must have a decent feedback score to bid. I expect a 1000 dollar deposit to be made within 24 hours of auctions end. Full payment must be made within 7 days in the form of bank wire, cashier’s check, or plain good old American cash. I will be happy to work with you as far as pickup. If you have it shipped I will do everything in my powers to work with your shipper.

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango still catching fire after recall

Thu, May 7 2015

Automakers issue recalls all the time. It's part of the cost of doing business. We just assume that once the recall has been carried out, the problem in question has been fixed. But that's not always the case, as this latest investigation being undertaken by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration goes to show. The problem stems back to a recall issued by Chrysler last summer. It revolved rather the sun visor in the SUVs it makes at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant – specifically, the screw affixing the sun visor could end up rubbing against the wiring for the lamp in the vanity mirror, potentially causing an electrical short and even a fire. 62 such short circuits, 38 fires and three injuries reported, prompting Chrysler to recall nearly 900,000 units of the 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango (over 650,000 of them in the United States). The plastic spacers they installed to rectify the problem, however, may not have done the trick. Eight reports (but none involving injuries) have been filed with the NHTSA regarding the same issue recurring, spurring the government agency to open a new investigation into the matter. If deemed necessary, the NHTSA could ask FCA to issue another recall to fix the issue again, which we may necessitate the installation of a fuze to prevent any such the electric short. Related Video: INVESTIGATION Subject : Headliner Fires Date Investigation Opened: MAY 01, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: RQ15003 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , INTERIOR LIGHTING Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) SUMMARY: On July 1st, 2014 Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued safety recall 14V-391 to remedy a wiring-related fire hazard on the headliner of approximately 661,888 model year (MY) 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured between January 5, 2010 and December 11, 2013. The recall was in response to the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) investigation EA14-001 during which data provided by Chrysler indicates that the fire is caused by an electrical short in the vanity lamp wiring for either one of the sun visors mounted on the vehicle. The sun visors are mounted to the roof of the vehicle through the headliner with three metal screws.

Jeep does Renegade Chinese-style with Zi You Xia design concept

Sat, 19 Apr 2014

As we mentioned, Jeep is bringing a quartet of concepts to the Beijing Motor Show this year. Its largest model, the Grand Cherokee, is nowhere to be found, but its smallest is. That, of course, would be the new Renegade, which has been done up as the Zi You Xia design concept.
Taking its name from the Mandarin word (or words) for "rebel," the Zi You Xia takes its inspiration from the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, with a Warm Chocolate Gray paintjob with contrasting dark bronze trim. The roof, grille and mirror caps are color-keyed to match the rest of the exterior, riding on 20-inch alloys in the same dark bronze finish.
Inside it's all Piano Black, Anodized Copper and brown leather with plaid fabric inserts. Scope it out in the high-res image gallery above and the press release below.
