1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Base Sport Utility 4-door 5.9l on 2040-cars

I bought this wag in 2009 for my oldest boy to learn how to drive in.  I went through it mechanically replacing battery, carburetor, alternator, thermostat, radiator, hoses, belts, fan clutch, tires, distributor (HEI) and headliner.  I like to play with old jeeps so it made sense to make one mechanically sound and let him learn in a heavy, safe car that could take a hit.  My deal was you drive the old wag for at least a year and if you have no tickets or accidents we can talk about getting something else.  My son liked the wag so much that he drove it for three years and when he decided he did want to trade up he took my Cherokee Chief (the boy has good taste). In the four years that we have owned it we have put 4,000 miles on it and it has been very dependable.

What does not work - the a/c, cruise control, intermittent wiper.  The back window does not work from the dash switch and barely works from the key switch (you have to help it along with your hand).  The rest of the windows work, front ones well and the rear ones slow.  The paint is in bad shape, stained and blochy, the pictures make the paint look better than it is.  The pictures do a good job of showing the rust and the condition of the interior.

The jeep has been sitting more often than not since my son has been driving the Chief.  I have six other cars to play with so I am letting this one go.  I drove it today and noticed the rear brakes making a little bit of a scraping sound when the brakes are applied so it will probably need rear brake shoes.  Other than that it is mechanically sound and runs very well.  4WD works and it is the best car for snow I have ever had.

If you have any questions please ask.  If you have zero feedback please contact me before you bid.  I would like a $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hours of the auction close.  Balance is due when the jeep is picked up.  You have two week to pick it up unless we agree ahead of time on something else.  I will accept cash or paypal only.  If paying the entire balance via paypal please add 2% to help cover the paypal fee.  If when you come to get the jeep you feel that it has been misrepresented I will refund you $400 of your deposit back.  The jeep is being sold as is where is and shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.  I will be happy to work with your shipper if you choose not to come and get it yourself.

Jeepster name may be used for Fiat-based baby Jeep

Tue, 17 Dec 2013

In 1948, Willys-Overland, the forbearers of Jeep, built a vehicle called the Jeepster. It was a funky little thing, designed as a mix of the more rugged Jeeps that came before with what was then a modern car, which arguably makes it the world's first crossover. The name was later revived from 1966 to 1972, which means for Jeep enthusiasts, it has some history.
Now, the modern Jeep brand may revive the Jeepster name for a new product, likely based on Fiat bones, that will slot in at the bottom of the brand's range underneath the soon-to-depart Compass and Patriot. The report comes from Australia's Drive, which cites a dealer source that has seen the vehicle.
That same dealer confirmed there is a link between the Jeepster and the rumored Fiat 500X, and that the former will be available in both front and all-wheel-drive variants. The source also claims both gas and diesel engines will be available, although as this is an Aussie site, we shouldn't take that to mean we'll get a diesel Jeepster in the US.

Jeep mulling power top for next Wrangler

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Jeep is hard at work on the next-generation Wrangler, though the truck is still a few years from hitting the trails. The new model will still be aimed at off-roaders, but rumors suggest it will be a little more comfortable than previous versions to appeal to more people.
According to Road and Track, Jeep is developing a power-retractable top as an expensive option for the Wrangler. There is no word if the top in question is a sliding canvas rollback like the ones found on many European vehicles or a full convertible hardtop or softtop, nor do we know whether it would be made available on two- or four-door models. It might be a nice feature for some buyers but would certainly add complexity to a truck already known for its ruggedness. We asked Jeep for confirmation, but Jeep spokesperson Todd Goyer could only remind us that the company "can't comment about future products."
In news that is likely to irk the faithful, R&T reports the next model may also ditch its folding windshield for improved safety and possibly even get rid of its rear-mounted, full-size spare tire. The new Wrangler won't go completely soft, though, and will reportedly still feature removable doors and solid axles.
